To want my parcel - woman denying accepting it but I have a photo..

I ordered some stuff off sports direct (about £20 worth) and, because I haven’t ordered off there for a couple of years, stupidly got it sent to my old address which was stored on the web site. Yes I know it’s annoying and stupid so I don’t need that lecture.

So once I clocked on what had happened, I went round there to collect it - couple of days later. The woman who bought the house off me completely denies having received it, despite the courier’s photo showing it being accepted at the front door. I can see two sets of children’s feet at the door on the picture. I obviously recognise the doorstep - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

Please note, I did not shout or accuse, I was very polite, I said I was “puzzled” and that there must have been some sort of confusion but she was adamant she hadn’t had it. It was a shoe box sized parcel so not massive to store and not easy to lose either.

Do you clever lot have any idea if there’s anything I can do?

I half expected her to come to the door wearing my gym gear 😆

In this case you can’t do anything. Sports direct won’t replace as you gave them the wrong address. Chargeback isn’t possible as again you gave them wrong address.

Evri won’t entertain you as they’ve done their job, sent it to the address specified and tend to only liase with the sender anyway. Not Evri’s job to assume you’ve moved on either.

You could report neighbour to police for stolen mail but I doubt they’d do much. For all they know, it could be you who accepted the parcel at the old house.

I’m not sure SD do goodwill- you can’t even return online purchases for a refund.

@BitOutOfPractice was it an amicable sale? We had exactly this situation recently and I just messaged our vendor and said we have a parcel here for you. The people who we sold to were awful and I wouldn’t rush to help them out (although of course I wouldn’t have stolen their goods).

Just to say you can return online purchases. Done this many times.

longtompot · 26/05/2025 20:19

@BitOutOfPractice I did this the Christmas after we moved, only it was over £100 as it was electric toothbrushes etc from Boots. I tried to cancel my order but couldn't, I just had to hope the new tenants would refuse it and send it back. I actually wrote a letter to them and gave them my mobile number and explained what had happened and they were very good about it.

The second time it happened wasn't my fault. It was a relative who sent us something for Christmas but to the old address as that was what in their default contact details for us on that particular site. I contacted the people again via text but they had moved a few years prior and the other people must have kept it.

maxybrown · 26/05/2025 20:22

Similar happened to some friends of mine. It was actually the company that messed up but it went to their old address. They went round and they showed them the photo and at first they denied it....so pointed out the photo again. (This item was also personalised with their name on by the way) They shut the door, rustled about a bit then came to the door with said item and it stinking of perfume. They reckoned the wife had been wearing it at the time 😂 so bizarre. Anyway, of no help to you OP but might make you laugh

Jc2001 · 26/05/2025 20:22

It's 20 quid. Let it go.

All this bullshit about calling the police. They don't even come out if your house has been burgled, let alone investigate the whereabouts of a small delivery you had sent to be wrong address.

Chalk it down to experience.

SalfordQuays · 26/05/2025 20:25

Whilst I think there’s almost zero chance of you getting it back, I’d still tell her you’re going to the police etc. Make her sweat a bit. Also I’d warn the neighbours if you’re still on friendly terms with them.

carpool · 26/05/2025 20:40

Maybe report to social services that the young children were left alone in the house as the photo shows them receiving the parcel and the adults in the house deny all knowledge of any such thing therefore presumably they were not there?

This is actually perfectly possibly what happened. The kids took the parcel in and have put it somewhere the adults are unaware of. The adults can't admit that as they can't admit leaving the children unattended.

Fucking hell do not contact social services about children’s feet being in a delivery picture. They genuinely have enough to be doing.

It’s not your front door.

I find people that don’t understand obvious humour fascinating. Do people usually point it out to you afterward but you just do the same each time? I wonder if you feel you’re genuinely responding with relevant information? So interesting and must make friendships quite challenging, I imagine.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 19:04

How rude! The gym leggings in there were delightful 😂

I have been round there. And showed her the proof. I cannot imagine the police will get involved or that I can be bothered to pursue a £20 order.

i intend to simply fume and widh Minor inconveniences on her.

Edited

I'll use my patented double diarrhoea curse on her, if you like.

You are correct. Thanks for mentioning I guess.

Not bullshit! It worked for me. They sent the local police officer round, who resolved it. It’s worth a try.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 21:20

Just to reassure the still relatively sane people on this thread, I have no intention of reporting to SS (though who the hell lets their kids answer the door like this? Madness!)

my only intention is indeed to just let it go though dp and I have has a great laugh in the pub tonight, inventing small, petty but annoying ways that we hope karma will visit these CFs.

I don't think it warrants a social services referral, but I can quite easily believe that the children did take it in and put it somewhere without the parents knowing.

It’s happened to me before. When I went to collect it they gave the card back but had not received any chocolates…
Honestly though I think you’ve just got to accept it, they obviously don’t want to give it back and there’s not really anything you can do about it.

That was nice of them to own up and give you the card though! It's the card that really matters / is what you want. If I'd eaten the chocs (which I wouldn't as the person might come round), I'd be too embarrassed to partially admit it it by admitting to the existence of the card.

timechecknow · 26/05/2025 21:55

I'd send another well-padded package in my name with just a piece of paper that said "happy stealing" inside!

There’s a photo of her looking at the parcel on the doorstep. She could have then handed it back. As I said in my post I’ve done this… taken the parcel, had the photo taken, looked at the parcel and passed it back to the driver.

Then surely she would have said that to OP. The fact that she denied seeing it speaks volumes.

Why are you making excuses for her?

We had a neighbour who sent her kids to the door when folk knocked...Particularly if it was something awkward (like the time she'd nicked my bin).

I get it's annoying. And you are likely annoyed with yourself for not realising you hadn't changed the address. Easy done though.

And yes I get being annoyed at them denying theve received it. But it's a low value parcel, police are very likely to do nothing about it for a £20 parcel.

it's just one to chalk up to experience though. As annoying as it is.
