To want my parcel - woman denying accepting it but I have a photo..

I ordered some stuff off sports direct (about £20 worth) and, because I haven’t ordered off there for a couple of years, stupidly got it sent to my old address which was stored on the web site. Yes I know it’s annoying and stupid so I don’t need that lecture.

So once I clocked on what had happened, I went round there to collect it - couple of days later. The woman who bought the house off me completely denies having received it, despite the courier’s photo showing it being accepted at the front door. I can see two sets of children’s feet at the door on the picture. I obviously recognise the doorstep - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

Please note, I did not shout or accuse, I was very polite, I said I was “puzzled” and that there must have been some sort of confusion but she was adamant she hadn’t had it. It was a shoe box sized parcel so not massive to store and not easy to lose either.

Do you clever lot have any idea if there’s anything I can do?

I half expected her to come to the door wearing my gym gear 😆

I'd be so annoyed I'd tell her I was reporting it to the police anyway

It looks like two kids accepting it (let’s not go there about them answering the door and accepting parcels) but they are too young to have been there by themselves (6 and 4ish?). She must’ve been in.

there was no sort of “oh let’s have a look at the picture, that’s a mystery” sort of chat, just flat out denial.

Edited

Go around and show her the photo (print it off) and say can she double check before you contact the police about theft and also post the whole thing on social media in case anyone can shed any light on the situation.

You could get your husband or male relative or friend to dress like a delivery man and have a fake parcel with your name and her address and see if she willingly takes it.

A box full of glitter that goes everywhere.

Or a female friend! 😉 We have a very well put together delivery woman that I call the Glamazon!! 😁

minisoksmakehardwork · 26/05/2025 17:54

Well, you could contact the company and tell them the lady reports not accepting the parcel and get a refund, then correcting your delivery address.

Mumlaplomb · 26/05/2025 17:56

as others have said, if you are completely sure the photo is her front door, knock again and tell her you intend to call the police as they’ve clearly got it.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 26/05/2025 17:57

It could still be her even if her profile says a different address.

Could be she hasn't updated her old address.
Worth a try.

Like the @DeSoleil 's idea of a glitter parcel.
Send one through the post in a big envelope.

Raspberryripple11 · 26/05/2025 17:57

It’s happened to me before. When I went to collect it they gave the card back but had not received any chocolates…
Honestly though I think you’ve just got to accept it, they obviously don’t want to give it back and there’s not really anything you can do about it.

SmoothRoads · 26/05/2025 18:00

You could report it as theft or you could contact the store and say you never received it. This is the truth as they denied knowledge of that package. I would just let the store sort it out.

Coffeeishot · 26/05/2025 18:02

Oh I said get a refund I didn't read your post correctly, you hadn't changed your address. It's a lost cause isn't it?

I have shown her the photo. She agreed it was her house. She was just completely puzzled what could have happened to it. As was her husband.

@MatildaTheCat yes it was a perfectly amicable sale.

@notenoughhere i know it’s not my front door you narna. It was an attempt at humour.

To all the other posters saying it’s my fault, yes, I know. I said so in my op. It’s still really bloody annoying though right?

There was A pair of sea-salt knock off sandals in the parcel. I hope they give her blisters.

Do you know any of the old neighbours well? CCTV?
I had a “friend “ come round whilst I was out who took my parcel when she had come by. ( the neighbour told me) my eldest was home so saw her distinctive car pull onto my drive as I wasn’t home but like most lazy teenagers he didn’t answer the door)

so I rang her and asked how she was and I said you wouldn’t believe but someone has stolen my bloody adidas parcel, but it’s ok, as the neighbour has cctv on his window sill and said he will check it when he gets back in from work …

suffice to say she said immediately she had the parcel and had taken it for safe keeping (got delivered at 11am she came by at 1pm and I had called her at 4pm- she didn’t call me) and how she was actually en route to drop it back off (she didn’t live far from me) when she came I could see she had opened the corner of it so could see what was inside. Needless to say I went nuts at her and friend no more.

MidnightMusing5 · 26/05/2025 18:07

I forgot to add there was no cctv- called her bluff

DeSoleil · 26/05/2025 17:29

Contact Sports Direct and tell them what happened and as gesture of goodwill they may refund you. You will need to put your current address on your profile so they know it’s a genuine mistake.

Are you a regular Sports Direct shopper? Mike Ashley doesn't know the meaning of a gesture of goodwill 😁

Anewdawnanewname · 26/05/2025 18:09

This happened to a friend of mine and she reported it to the police. I think the ooolice wanted an excuse to get into the house, as they searched it and found the parcel. Also found a lot of other stuff, which is maybe why they were so willing to help her out over a parcel.

MyCyanReader · 26/05/2025 18:11

Contact the non emergency police and report the theft of the parcel.

Theft is theft.

Get a crime number then to back round and let her know that you have reported it to the police because if she doesn't have it then clearly someone else must have been in her house and answered the door.

This might jog her memory and make her find it.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 16:36

Yes i think that’s all I can do. Unless the genius mn hive mind can come up with a better plan.

The leggings have sold out now as well!

Contact the seller and say they never arrived. If they’ve sold out they’ll just issue a refund? Yes you used your old address, but the person living there says they didn’t arrive either. POD: “not my house, I don’t have children etc.

VivIsBlonde · 26/05/2025 18:16

KarmenPQZ · 26/05/2025 16:35

There’s a photo of her looking at the parcel on the doorstep. She could have then handed it back. As I said in my post I’ve done this… taken the parcel, had the photo taken, looked at the parcel and passed it back to the driver.

I had this last week
Amazon driver came to my back door and I was in the garden, I took the parcel, he took the photo and left, I shouted out to him that he had given me the wrong one, it was my neighbours parcel and he was about to give my neighbours mine!
Thank goodness I noticed as I know I would never have got it back from them!!!

They have photographic evidence of delivery though

AlertCat · 26/05/2025 18:39

I did something similar a few years ago. I had left my forwarding address and a phone number in case of things arriving, but when I went round to retrieve this parcel (it was Christmas gifts) she was reluctant to let me have it- wanted me to come back later- but she did hand it over eventually and it was opened. Thankfully all the items I’d ordered were there!

On a separate note but related to CFery entitlement, as per a thread running at the moment, the woman is very well-off (her dc attend a VERY expensive local school) and yet it’s clear that she hoped to keep my parcel even though she had my address and contact details to let me know it had been delivered there in error. I find it outrageous really. OP, there are some people who just take advantage of any situation and don’t feel any obligation to do the right thing.

HariboFan5367 · 26/05/2025 18:46

KarmenPQZ · 26/05/2025 16:31

Maybe she looked at the name but rejected the parcel after the delivery driver had taken the photo. I’ve had that before
and rejected the parcel even tho the driver has already selected delivered. I’ve no idea what happened to it after then

Edited

Same. The delivery driver still uploaded the photo even though we handed it straight back after seeing the wrong name. So then the person who sent it to the wrong address was adamant we had it. Don't know what happened to it after that

eldermillenialmum · 26/05/2025 18:55

OP it may be your fault you put the wrong address but that doesn't mean other people a steal your stuff. The only thing that perplexes me very slightly is it's not exactly a desirable item but maybe she gave them to someone?

I would go around again and say Sports Direct and the courier records show the item was delivered so the only way for you to get your money back is to report this to the police so wanted to check whether they definitely don't have it before you do that.

eldermillenialmum · 26/05/2025 18:56

They might have assumed you'd be issued a replacement and wouldn't bother

Booboobagins · 26/05/2025 18:58

It's theft. She cannot keep any mail tgat is not addressed to her. Im sorry you'll need to escalate it if she persists in lying.

Go back to her with the couriers evidence and say are you sure you dont have it? The courier provided this evidence. If she persists, then I'd be saying something like 'Im sorry I dont want to be an arse but I have to raise it as a disputed transaction, its then out of my hands whether the police are called in by the retailer, my bank or the courier.' Hoping she sees sense.

She is a CF.

Ok so I have found the same item on vinted, brand new with tags. Is there any way of finding out where the item is located on there?

If you go to the sellers profile it tells you their town
