To want my parcel - woman denying accepting it but I have a photo..

I ordered some stuff off sports direct (about £20 worth) and, because I haven’t ordered off there for a couple of years, stupidly got it sent to my old address which was stored on the web site. Yes I know it’s annoying and stupid so I don’t need that lecture.

So once I clocked on what had happened, I went round there to collect it - couple of days later. The woman who bought the house off me completely denies having received it, despite the courier’s photo showing it being accepted at the front door. I can see two sets of children’s feet at the door on the picture. I obviously recognise the doorstep - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

Please note, I did not shout or accuse, I was very polite, I said I was “puzzled” and that there must have been some sort of confusion but she was adamant she hadn’t had it. It was a shoe box sized parcel so not massive to store and not easy to lose either.

Do you clever lot have any idea if there’s anything I can do?

I half expected her to come to the door wearing my gym gear 😆

Same. The delivery driver still uploaded the photo even though we handed it straight back after seeing the wrong name. So then the person who sent it to the wrong address was adamant we had it. Don't know what happened to it after that

Why didn’t she just say that then?

OP it may be your fault you put the wrong address but that doesn't mean other people a steal your stuff. The only thing that perplexes me very slightly is it's not exactly a desirable item but maybe she gave them to someone?

I would go around again and say Sports Direct and the courier records show the item was delivered so the only way for you to get your money back is to report this to the police so wanted to check whether they definitely don't have it before you do that.

How rude! The gym leggings in there were delightful 😂

I have been round there. And showed her the proof. I cannot imagine the police will get involved or that I can be bothered to pursue a £20 order.

i intend to simply fume and widh Minor inconveniences on her.

My post has disappeared @BitOutOfPractice but if you click on the Vinted seller it tells you their location (town) so at least you’ll have an idea

BreatheAndFocus · 26/05/2025 19:09

Go round, tell her you’ve spoken to the company concerned and they’ve confirmed the photo is genuine and that it was handed to someone at your house. Say they have told you to contact the police, but you thought you’d pop round and get them just to have another check before you make your police report.

If they deny all knowledge again, point out the children’s feet in the photo, look puzzled and say that surely such young children couldn’t have been there by themselves because that would be dreadful. Then stand there and smile politely.

Do report them if they don’t ‘find’ it - both to the company and to the police.

HappyLols · 26/05/2025 19:16

Vinted gives my location about 15 miles away from my place - so not very helpful!

KarmenPQZ · 26/05/2025 16:31

Maybe she looked at the name but rejected the parcel after the delivery driver had taken the photo. I’ve had that before
and rejected the parcel even tho the driver has already selected delivered. I’ve no idea what happened to it after then

Edited

If she’d of done that she would of said that’s what happened

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 19:18

Thank you @OneQuickMauveBiscuit (love the name!) I have done that, it’s not the right town. I was all ready to go round and clap her in irons but sadly I can’t.

I’ve done all that. My quizzical face was epic.

You could always be a bit sly and go round all sunshine and light and just say "oh I just wanted to let you know you might get a visit from the police as they're now investigating it as a theft - you know as the parcel had my name on it, it's still legally mine. They'll be checking in with everyone in this street to match the photo. Just letting you know so it's not a shock when they come around!" and grin maniacally. That's all bollocks of course but maybe you'll freak her out enough to own up and give them back.

I would go.through the delivery company say you never received or go to sports direct and hopefully you get a refund, we had this hoha with a parcel recently and we did get a refund eventually, some folk are just cheeky feckers aren't they ?

Sports direct will do precisely jacj shit to help, their customer service sucks. Try the courier instead

Op- I had almost the same experience. I scrolled down and clicked on the wrong address on the list by mistake, but it was clearly my name on the parcel.
I went to the address to retrieve my parcel. The woman didn’t know anything about it. I held my ground and said the courier could confirm he had left it at that address. The woman’s husband turned up and was argumentative and emphatic it wasn’t there and told me to get off his property.
I phoned 101, the police told me it was 99% certain I would never see it again. However a few days later I opened the door to a policewoman holding my parcel. She told the woman it was theft and she would have to go to the police station and would end up with a criminal record, at which point the woman’s husband turned burst into tears, said she hadn’t known what to do with the parcel, and called her husband to retrieve it- from the boot of his car!
Dont give up hope!

Bloody hell! The lengths people will go to go get something, anything, for free! Who knew there were so many dishonest chancers around!

brettsalanger · 26/05/2025 19:27

This exact thing happened to me on sports direct wierdly. The way the check out is laid out makes it difficult to spot the delivery address.

I got my parcel back though as my sister bought my old house !

Namechangedformyanswer · 26/05/2025 19:35

This happened with a passport at an address the next street along. They sent the picture taken and I went around. Denied it. Really important passport. My husband went around with picture and said its clearly here. Chap said they opened it and threw it away! Knows.

Had to get another one sent.

BobbyBiscuits · 26/05/2025 16:53

She doesn't know anything about it. If she did she'd have kept it for you. If her kids took it then it's long gone and they'll probably deny it, not that you can force her to ask them.

You just have to accept you made an error by not changing the address. You could try and get a refund and just tell them it's missing?

I agree. It's annoying but I doubt you'll get a refund as the parcel was delivered to the address you gave. If you paid by credit card you might be able to claim through that.

But it’s not a SD issue, you can’t blame them.

realitystrikes · 26/05/2025 19:46

Just report it not received. They will see the geo location of the photograph pinpointed on a map and know it was delivered to the wrong address. Its not up to you to follow up or get the police involved. The company has proof they delivered it to the wrong address and will give you a refund or replacement.

It wasn’t the wrong address

It’s not the wrong address, though. They’ve delivered it where OP asked them to deliver it. OP got it wrong.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 19:54

I know SD and the Delivery company have done nothing wrong. It’s the household at my old address that have.

if she’d said “I was really annoyed you’d sent a parcel here and threw it in the bin” I’d think that was fair enough. It is annoying. But to just deny having it. That’s just a lie. And that’s pissed me off.

They didn't deliver it to the wrong address. They delivered it to the address OP gave them which was by mistake her old address.

I’ve had this as well. My neighbour came round all guns blazing showing a very distinctive picture of my front door and slippers. The courier had handed me the parcel and photographed it. But I had handed the package back to the driver as I could see it had the wrong address. The courier appeared to have uploaded the photo anyway. The package was an iPhone apparently. Neighbour said he was reporting me to the police. I told him to go right ahead. I heard no more. I suspect the courier saw an opportunity to snaffle a new phone.

Because they’ve nicked it! Lowlifes! Can you negotiate offering on the vinted item, tell them you’re local and desperate to have the item immediately and could you pick it up?

SalfordQuays · 26/05/2025 20:14

I would tell the woman that you’ve reported it to the police because you need a crime number so you can claim on insurance. Say that you think the police will probably follow it up because a lot of parcels used to disappear in that area when you lived there, so they take it quite seriously. Then say you also need her to sign a statement that she didn’t receive it, also for the insurance.

Why should Sports Direct or the courier do anything? They delivered the order to the address specified by the OP.
