To be put off a man because he was asleep during the day?

Been on a few dates with a bloke. He sent me a message yesterday at 2pm asking what I was upto, I returned the question and he said “I’ve just woke up lol”. At 2pm?? He’d been up in the day earlier as he’d messaged me at 10am saying he was off to shop. How lazy - don’t get me wrong I’m not bursting with energy either but I at least stay awake during the day. It’s really put me off

I'm with you OP. I couldn't date someone who naps, it's weird to me - who has that spare time anyway?!

People who don't go on MN?

Midnightlove · 21/05/2025 17:12

Ooh I love a good nap

There’s no better feeling than that lovely dropping off to sleep sensation when you have an afternoon slump. I swear I have a smile on my face in that moment.

It's heavenly isn't it? I like to lie on my bed, read a few pages of my book and then drift off, bliss

SquashedMallow · 21/05/2025 17:15

I have a siesta nearly every day off I have. Not for long. Maybe an hour. And I tell you what, I absolutely need it . Most other countries have a day time snooze. It's only Brits that work ourselves into the ground and frown upon such practices (the working population). I think you're being really judgey and small minded. My mum frowns on things like this, I love her dearly but she's very much a 'what will the neighbours think' mindset. I wonder if you are ...

Total red flag.

You. You're the red flag.

Omg.

You sound awful.

OP. Please ignore this.

Hadmysay · 21/05/2025 17:20

There's so many people in toxic awful relationships but this is what you choose for your red flag smh. No wonder why the dating market is so screwed

It's the best isn't it, such a luxurious and peaceful feeling! Argh man I miss it so much 😂 I nap with my two year old sometimes but it's just not the same as its always a rude awakening of a shouting toddler and more for survival than enjoyment!

What’s wrong with an afternoon nap?

Because unless someone has a nutritional deficiency, endocrine disorder or a baby keeping them up all night…not being able to get through the day is a little odd?!

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 21/05/2025 17:33

There’s nothing wrong with a nap but I did have a bad experience with a man I dated. He worked part time, insisted on napping every afternoon and our whole lives revolved around his naps. We couldn’t go out for the day or in the afternoon. He also went to bed by 9pm so we couldn’t go out in the evening either!

He was incredibly lazy basically. So I guess is it just the odd nap or will your life have to revolve around it?

Towundertwo · 21/05/2025 17:35

PeptoDismal · 21/05/2025 09:16

I did ask him if he was unwell, he replied “no why?” So I said “being asleep at 2pm, I thought maybe you were unwell” so he said “no just knackered lol”. He works part time.

I put that I thought you were unreasonable because I LOVE a nap… but working part time as an adult man? That’s where I personally would draw the line so now I dont think you’re that unreasonable because maybe I am too 🤣🙈

Bigcat25 · 21/05/2025 17:36

Naps are healthy and improve productivity.

How about after a big lunch? Christmas dinner? A Sunday roast? Is there something wrong with people who nap after those?

I’ve never eaten to the point of craving unconsciousness, no? Maybe your blood sugar is going too high? Genuine question

MounjaroMounjaro · 21/05/2025 17:40

People are making excuses for his naps simply because they - in completely different circumstances (full time jobs, children, insomnia) need to nap. He's not in that situation at all, he's just lazy.

OP, I'd be completely put off him.

That’s what I was thinking. We only have one nap in his own home to go on, yet people already have the knives out. If they had an ex like mine a nap would be the least of their gripes.

You (and I) have no idea why he napped or what his napping habits are.

I have none of those things, but in this heat I'm up every couple of hours in the night. And I'm not the only one. It was the main topic of conversation today.🙈

You’re unaware people can get sleepy after a heavy meal?

Are you personally acquainted with the napping man and know exactly how well/poorly he slept last night?

Did you read my response? No, it doesn’t happen to me. Nor anyone I can think of who’s healthy. My aging father, yes. My prediabetic aunt, yes. Perhaps there is a reason you’re struggling.

Wineisalwaysagoodidea · 21/05/2025 17:56

I adore a ‘nanna nap’ and I’m only in my 40s. Consequently I keep very good health, rarely pick up bugs that do the rounds, hold down a demanding career as well as wife and mum.
You judge away in your corner. What if he just had a poor nights sleep?

The superior walk among us. All hail those who never nap and look down on those who do, we nappers are not worthy.

What a nasty, snide reply. If you are a non-napper then thankfully you are not my tribe.
