I'm alone on a uk beach, taking in the sun.

Will people likely be thinking the old beached whale thing?

A few idiots may judge you but they are the sort of people that are probably members of online communities that hate everyone.

My 8 year old DS told me today that my nose is too big but to never fix it as I’m beautiful. It’s the people that love you that matter.

I would be impressed that you’re living your life and inspired to do the same and sun my own big white bum.

Work it girl & enjoy the holiday xx

S0j0urn4r · 20/05/2025 14:11

Some might. Screw 'em!

TheLurpackYears · 20/05/2025 14:13

I'd simply be jealous. Have a lovely time soaking up the rays and I hope you can have a nice swim too if you are a swimmer.

Itiswhysofew · 20/05/2025 14:13

I've lived very close to the beach in a sunny country and was always glad to see all types of sunbathers spending a lovely day enjoying the sun and sea. It warmed my heart.

Have a lovely day.

Herberty · 20/05/2025 14:16

I would look at you and worry that you were sunbathing and judging all 9 stone of me through your sunglasses.

We all have something we are not keen on - mine is more obvious than others - 2 bloody big crutches and a walk that looks as if I have had 20 too many and should be locked up until I sober up.

There are far too many rainy days in the uk - seize the day and sunbathe - I would join you if I could but I would be the beached whale unable to get up without others hauling me up - that's always a bit off putting !

Spookypoo · 20/05/2025 14:16

Another one who’d be far more concerned about keeping my bouncy dogs away than anything else (especially after a truly awful incident when one of mine was a puppy, joined in a picnic and spat some cucumber out before making off with the cheese straws…).

Enjoy your sunbathing! No one else matters.

comeandhaveteawithme · 20/05/2025 14:16

Sweetie, I am 24 stone (only just - I've just lost a stone!) and I wear a bloody two piece on the beach with no fucks given.

The only time I've ever had nasty comments made to me is when I am disagreeing with someone and they have no other argument to bring up except my weight. And I try not to let this bother me.

WFHforevermore · 20/05/2025 14:18

Wouldnt give a fuck. Too busy worrying about what i look to be honest and im a size 8, with a jelly belly and stretch marks.

TheAmusedQuail · 20/05/2025 14:19

The only thing I'm thinking is you lucky cow! Sunning yourself. On a beach.

I'm indoors working (well, skiving right at this minute).

Have a fab break chick!

ukathleticscoach · 20/05/2025 14:25

Never worry about what other people think about your appearance

Enjoy your holiday

thecatneuterer · 20/05/2025 14:27

I wouldn't think anything. If it's a UK beach you won't exactly stand out from the crowd.

BobbyBiscuits · 20/05/2025 14:28

As long as they weren't totally nude and lying on their back, legs akimbo I wouldn't care. I'd probably think I quite admired them for having the confidence to strip off if they're quite big.

I guess if they were alone I'd worry they might not be able to reach properly to get the sunblock on their backs?

Hwi · 20/05/2025 14:29

Who gives a proverbial? Enjoy!

MsFogi · 20/05/2025 14:31

I wouldn’t think anything because my mind would be a million other places. If you were in a bikini I would think ‘Good on her wearing a bikini’ because I always think that about any woman over 25 (regardless of shape or size) wearing a bikini.

Shelllendyouhertoothbrushtoo · 20/05/2025 14:33

Unfortunately horrible judgey people exist so some might have unkind thoughts. But as I tell my kids, the people saying and thinking nasty things are not the sort of people who's opinions we care about. Have a lovely day!!

Anotherparkingthread · 20/05/2025 12:16

Id think 'i hope she's covered in sunscreen" because I burn very easily and uva and uvb is very bad for your skin.

Ok i promise not to derail the thread but modest amounts of sunshine are actually good for you and necessary.

@Anotherparkingthread I'm sure you weren't advocating total sun avoidance but I've seen others getting extremist about it and it's such an important public health issue so I just had to mention. Sunscreen on a beach is of course usually sensible - if it's hot enough to be there it's probably hot enough to burn.

OP I certainly wouldn't be judging you. And going by this thread, anyone who did judge you would be the subject of far more public disapproval than you ever would or could be. How embarrassing for them! Have a wonderful day.

Embarrassinglyuseless · 20/05/2025 14:39

i am generally quite a judgy person - about other people’s parenting / priorities - but I’ve just wandered through a park full of all sorts of people relaxing in the sun - and my only thought, as I wrangle my smallest and feistiest DC, is ‘how can I get some of that sort of peace?’

enjoy!

Gettingbysomehow · 20/05/2025 14:39

Fine here just don't do it in France. They are unbelievable body fascists. My holiday was a misery after women commented on my cellulite time and time again. I was just sitting under an umbrella minding my own business.
Nobody cares in Germany or Italy.

Docwillseeyounow · 20/05/2025 14:41

I wouldn't give it a second thought. Enjoy the beach and the sun.

ClawedButler · 20/05/2025 14:42

They might think that, but who cares?

You have as much right to be there as anybody else, you're not hurting anyone.

I wish I was lying on a beach at the moment! Enjoy it x

LifeExperience · 20/05/2025 14:43

I live in Florida and you would fit right in here. No worries.

UrbanMonstrosity · 20/05/2025 14:44

I wouldn’t think anything because sorry, but you wouldn’t even be on my radar. I’m just getting on with my own stuff.

Im basically almost albino. I'm very blonde with white blonde eyebrows.

I have burnt spending the day outdoors in a statue park in winter.

My grandmother has had 4 skin cacners removed from her face. The first was removed in her 20s.

The sun can do enormous amounts of damage to even skin with normal amounts of melanin. I also don't want wrinkles, age spots, any other the associated skin issues.

I take vitamin d supplements along with my other vitamins. It's far safer.

MaryGreenhill · 20/05/2025 14:45

No l wouldn't think anything at all . Enjoy yourself OP

My god, in what context? Did they just approach you? What did you say??
