I'm alone on a uk beach, taking in the sun.

Will people likely be thinking the old beached whale thing?

OP posts:
Takeyourfaceoff · 20/05/2025 13:08

I’d be thinking I hope she’s wearing sunscreen and praying my littlest dog didn’t run over and shake beside you. I would also probably be thinking, I can get down to lay on the beach but I’m not sure I’d be able to get up again. Hoping that you didn’t get sand in unfortunate places. Similar to a pp I am on mounjaro and tanks to a wonderful combination of nerve damage and some (a lot) of extra kilos I would be less than graceful getting back up.

Or

I’d probably not notice you due to watching afore mentioned littlest dog and slightly daft big dog.

BollickyBill · 20/05/2025 13:08

None of my business. If you're happy to flaunt it then you go girl. 😘

Gymnopedie · 20/05/2025 13:08

OP some people will judge. I can't pretend they won't. Fuck 'em.

Enjoy your lovely day.🌞

TheNightingalesStarling · 20/05/2025 12:11

Unless you ate lying there naked (on a non nudist beach) I doubt I would even notice.

This x enjoy the sunshine ....its going to rain tomorrow...on my day off 🙄

Veganpug · 20/05/2025 13:11

How on earth would anyone know your weight by looking at you .
You have as much right to take up space on a beach as everyone else has .
There's some lovely costumes out at the minute, hope you have picked a nice one

rainbowstardrops · 20/05/2025 13:12

I’d be thinking, ‘You go girl!’

soddingblimey · 20/05/2025 13:13

ThatCyanCat · 20/05/2025 12:58

Thank you, I'm in the market...will check it out.

I’m a 34K and they’re not budging, plus their bikini bottoms are sensibly cut

Gloriia · 20/05/2025 13:13

Op it is now the norm rather then the exception to be obese. I've just seen a man walking down the street topless and he was very large.

Just relax and enjoy yourself.

AnneMarieW · 20/05/2025 13:13

Nope I wouldn’t think anything much of it. I was 23 stone at my heaviest before I lost a lot of weight and I still went to the beach - albeit fully clothed rather than in a swimsuit or bikini as I was too self conscious for that sadly. Are fat people supposed to just hide away at home? 🤣 Have a lovely day OP.

Hkgyvd · 20/05/2025 13:14

Nice supportive comments. MN can be nice sometimes 😊
OP I hope you are off enjoying the beach. You have as much right to do so as anyone. The beach is for everyone.
If I saw you I might briefly register you as a larger lady like myself, and I'd think good on you for getting out there and enjoying yourself, and I'd feel encouraged also

BountifulPantry · 20/05/2025 13:14

I probably wouldn’t notice you!

Enjoy!

Gekas · 20/05/2025 13:15

I’d think nothing, lately I’d think i hope you have sunscreen on but i think that about every person i see these days after dealing with skin cancer.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 20/05/2025 13:19

I got a "beached whale" comment the one time I did similar and haven't done it again - so I'd admire your metaphorical balls.

thetrumanshow · 20/05/2025 13:21

It wouldn't even register, or I would be looking further because I don't like to sit next to people, whatever their size.

Lasttraintolondon · 20/05/2025 13:22

I'm with the others, I'd not think anything. Probably wouldn't even notice.

TallulahBetty · 20/05/2025 13:23

Listen, if I'm on a beach, I'm just enjoying being off work and in a lovely place.

AddictedToBooks · 20/05/2025 13:24

To be honest, I wouldn't think anything of it - I'd be too busy with my own family and even if I glanced over, I still wouldn't think anything of it.

lifemakeover · 20/05/2025 13:24

Obese · 20/05/2025 12:48

So I always used to worry about shit like this but then my friend said to me

"It's none of your business what other people think of you"

So what if some stranger thought something unpleasant about you for a second? Their thoughts aren't gonna hurt you. Your thoughts are gonna hurt you if you worry and ruin your own day thinking about what strangers think of you. Projecting your own insecurities and worries on to a stranger who probably didn't even notice you in the first place. Don't do it.

Just enjoy your day!

Exactly this. I was going to say even if someone here said they would think something negative about you, so what? It's very much a them problem.

I hope you have glorious time in the sunshine. I am certainly jealous and would rather be on the beach than at my desk.

I can only clearly remember one person's body that I saw by a pool, and it was because of what she was doing with it (a lot of hilarious posing while her long suffering boyfriend was instructed to take millions pictures of her presumably for Instagram) and where (at the side of a swimming pool on a very family orientated campsite while loads of toddlers, kids and teenagers splashed about ruining her 'aesthetic'). Was very entertaining!

DancingFerret · 20/05/2025 13:26

"Lucky thing" is what I would think.

I got a "beached whale" comment the one time I did similar and haven't done it again - so I'd admire your metaphorical balls.

And this is the damage that can be done to people, when they make pointless, cruel remarks. The person who said that will just be getting on with their life. Don't allow them to stifle yours.

MyKingdomForACat · 20/05/2025 13:27

No one will take a blind bit of notice of who is doing what. Enjoy your afternoon xx

mamakoukla · 20/05/2025 13:27

I’d think you’re out enjoying your day and would wish I could join you

feelingbleh · 20/05/2025 13:28

Nope I take zero notice of other people

TENSsion · 20/05/2025 13:28

What kind of person would think horrible things?
Are those the kind of people you should concern yourself with?

Enjoy yourself!

WellINeverrr · 20/05/2025 13:28

I wouldn't really think anything of tbh. Just another person.
