Clarks WTAF?

90% of my work shores are from Clarks and have been for years. I get this is a collaboration but honestly? Or am I really out of touch and this is what I need to be wearing.

Absolutely love the shade of blue though.

I was worried at first but i’ve got 3 pairs of boots, some shoes and trainers from there and they’re great ( seeing as i barely do anything but work anyway) and i wear them all every day.
i like out there things, but i don’t think i could wear these shoes. They look half done and ripped. It would irritate me. I end up trying to pull the stitching from the back off….

I do have some bits in the basket on temu but I haven't been brave enough to actually buy them but I'll take another look.

If these Clarks shoes were actually finished, I think they'd be beautiful, that colour is just gorgeous!! That said, I'd never spend £250 on a pair of shoes!!

thestudio · 18/05/2025 15:23

The outrage is making me giggle! Of course they're not to everyone's taste, but it doesn't seem nuts to me at all - Clarks have taken their 'British utility' brand towards something a bit more edgy plenty of times, and lots of heritage brands have done well collab-ing with more high end or out there designers.

The deconstructed shape must be familiar to lots of people via Irregular Choice?

But mainly, just pick the things that you like - if streetwear or 'fashion' stuff isn't you don't buy it. You don't have to like everything!

ballroomblue · 18/05/2025 18:20

Awful. Gorgeous blue though.

menopausalfart · 18/05/2025 19:17

I'd want to cut off that exposed seam.

BunnyLake · 18/05/2025 19:33

They look like they need to go to the cobbler's. No one is going to know it’s a ‘look’ and people will just think someone’s wearing shabby shoes. A more money than sense purchase.

ChaliceinWonderland · 18/05/2025 22:16

Wowzers indeed!!! Grim and quite scary!!

Itiswhysofew · 18/05/2025 22:36

They're very creepy looking.

HomericEpithet · 19/05/2025 00:23

this Martine Rose for Clarks court shoe features a functional, intentionally distressed design which showcases time-tested techniques. Exposed seams reveal the shoe’s multiple inner layers for a utilitarian look, contrasting with bold, tactile croc-embossed blue leathers. An archival Sachetto construction method and authentic stitching captures the commitment to comfort and craft which underpins every pair in the Coming Up Roses collection.

Hmmm. Are we quite, quite sure that the shoes were originally intended to look like this?

Could this all be a load of marketing flannel to shift a batch of shoes caught in a manufacturing accident during production? Grin

DisabledDemon · 19/05/2025 00:25

Looks like the dog's had a go at them! Definitely swerve them.

Bananararity · 17/05/2025 16:55

I’m actually angered by them. If they were the usual court shoe they do in that colour with a heel I’d have bought them - probably two of them. But they’ve taken something that usually sells and made it look as though it’s been jammed in a door. Any they trebled the price.

Who is the target market here?

Trans women are the target market, I imagine. Clarks actively supported the LGBTQ+ community, including transgender people, through collaborations and campaigns.

is there literally anything on MN that doesn’t allow trans to be shoehorned (!) in??

It’s much more likely that this London-Jamaican designer is appealing to the Clark’s cult following in the Caribbean. The brand gets name checked a lot in lyrics and they sell loads over there.

Laughing so hard at all the outraged comments on here. How dare Clark’s design shoes outside the comfort zone of frumpy suburban women. M&S will be doing lace knickers next!

Agreed Greyexpectations
Martine Rose is a well known and established designer, 20 years in the trade. Her background is British Jamaican. She makes men's and women's clothing and footwear.

I'm not a fan as the clothes and shoes are street/urban, which aren't my thing. Kendrick Lamar and Rhianna are celebrity fans.

This thread has hit new levels of ridiculousness.

I think on balance they're just meant to be a little bit of [overpriced] fun.

DBD1975 · 19/05/2025 16:19

They will be in the sale!

HollieHock · 19/05/2025 18:26

Hilarious. Who are their target customers I wonder.

YourSignalFadedIntoAnotherWorld · 19/05/2025 18:45

Fuck my eyes!

Who wants intentionally distressed shoes? Buy a second hand pair for £20 on Ebay and you're golden.

Just effed up.

Chumbawomble · 19/05/2025 21:49

I love shoes but haven't bought any Clark's since the kids left school. Just awful overpriced cack imo.

SurferRona · 19/05/2025 22:27

I love them, very much. Witty. I’d wear them a lot and smile whenever I looked down, Hope they do go into the sale as I’d never buy shoes at that price 🤞👠

My shoes look like this after aggressively wearing them 24/7 for a year haha

Why do you think transwomen would want to wear shabby, unfinished looking shoes?

Tenducks · 20/05/2025 13:57

Some people have no shoes and some people have so many they are bored enough to buy these.

Ok. I can actually see a rationale for them. When you can’t decide between a heel and a sport shoe. And who doesn’t want a shoe on a hue of ‘safety orange’!

Edited

You could get around that by wearing two odd shoes, not a pair of two odd shoes cobbled together.

Summersun9 · 20/05/2025 18:12

They have to be amongst the worst shoes I have ever seen.
