Clarks WTAF?

90% of my work shores are from Clarks and have been for years. I get this is a collaboration but honestly? Or am I really out of touch and this is what I need to be wearing.

Absolutely love the shade of blue though.

Grim. Clarks used to do fabulous collabs: I still bring out the Liberty print wedges I impulse bought in approx 1654 because they were just so beautiful. This, not so much.

Completely agree. I loved the V&A and the Orla Kiely collaborations from years ago. I wear a few of them still. But this is just some kind of experimental art in shoe form.

They are very....unusual

NamechangeJunebaby · 17/05/2025 17:55

They look so tatty.

Sofiewoo · 17/05/2025 17:56

Something doesn’t need to be ‘what you need to be wearing’ for it to be stalked. There’s space for all tastes.

TeenyTotAndTiny · 17/05/2025 17:57

They’re hideous!

PansyPottering · 17/05/2025 17:59

Wowzers. 😵 I hope my algorithm isn’t going to be fucked after looking at those!

Cant believe these snake skin boomerang heeled loafers are in the sale.

Bloody hell. When I worked at Clarks 30 years ago, I would have been hauled in the office if any of "my" shoes looked like that.

Thisisittheapocalypse · 17/05/2025 18:00

I would fire their purchasing buyer over those
😂

I’m actually angered by them. If they were the usual court shoe they do in that colour with a heel I’d have bought them - probably two of them. But they’ve taken something that usually sells and made it look as though it’s been jammed in a door. Any they trebled the price.

Who is the target market here?

The target market is people who only choose shoes to impress other people, and only want to impress people who are (a) only impressed by shoes that are priced at at least £250 and (b) have an encyclopedic knowledge of all qualifying shoes so will recognise these ones.

As it is therefore a tiny target market, the manufacturing fixed-costs per pair made are high, so the cost must be high

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 17/05/2025 18:02

They look damaged.

Gowlett · 17/05/2025 18:05

I still have my suede Mary Portas collection shoes.

Disturbia81 · 17/05/2025 18:06

Fucking awful

mintandpistachio · 17/05/2025 18:06

I actually love them - if they did them in black I’d be buying them!

Gowlett · 17/05/2025 18:06

They’ve got people talking, which might be the point?

Apora · 17/05/2025 18:07

People must have more money than sense to buy those

Horses7 · 17/05/2025 18:10

A take on Emperor’s new clothes - it happens such a lot.

pomers · 17/05/2025 18:12

Absolutely hideous, the bit at the back looks bad enough, it will look a total mess after a bit of weather

Padloque · 17/05/2025 18:12

The target market is probably fashion editors, who will then feature Clarks in places the sturdy brogues and sensible courts would never reach. But I’d be really surprised if Clarks shift many to actual real life customers - see also John Lewis’ A.W.A.K.E. Mode range and its 70% off in the sale somewhat mixed reception.

Hiding under furniture, but I actually like them, although not enough to go buy them as I don't have much occasion to wear court shoes.

Martine Rose is an interesting designer with an atypical background, but as far as I know only usually does menswear. Interesting collaboration.

*Didn't read the description but have no trouble believing it's a bunch of pretension.

Edited

I’m hiding with you because I like them too. 😱

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 17/05/2025 18:13

Naw, jist naw 😂

Veryverycalmnow · 17/05/2025 18:15

They are dreadful!

Mumof2amazingasdkiddos · 17/05/2025 18:15

Wow definitely not my style at all

I bought two pair of black slim heel court shoes one velvet type and the other silk, back in 1992 in the sale for £7 each.

I still wear them occasionally mainly, at the social dances at the dance studio we go to. 33 years later they are still like new, I have had them heeled, but that's all.
This is what Clarks meant to me, well made footwear made to last.

sodabreadjam · 17/05/2025 18:17

Ridiculous.

I thought at first that was a blade sticking out of the back until I scrolled through pics from other angles.

Laiste · 17/05/2025 18:18

Oh.my.god.

It's so emperors new clothes isn't it?

''Wow darling you look amazing in your shoes which look as if they've been dragged out of the factory dumpster!''

Maybe they should have stuck on a bit of fake banana peel and burger wrapper for the full effect?
