Our new Neighbours and my loud children

Hi
I wasn’t sure where to start this thread as it covers two areas but il try here first.

We have recently moved into our dream family home ‘ which is a huge project. We chose it due to the size of the garden for our children , and the large summer house at the bottom.

We have two young boys. Who are lovely, kind boys, but v loud characters. ( 2 & 6 ) one has asd & add. The other just has the loudest & deepest voice 😂. trust me I try to tell them to speak quieter I think it’s impossible . ( They are both in bed by 7 ish pm and both asleep till 7 )

They are just being kids in my opinion . And obviously the odd 3 daily meltdowns from my two year old as I buttered his toast wrong.

But Today she put her radio on at 4.30 am. Blaring through our 2 years old wall. woke us all. The reason in her words “ Was to show me how thin those walls are, As my kids scream and shout in the garden so much making us terrible neighbors “

she has never had children and isn’t keen on them .

my issue is , little does she know I am in the process of setting up as a childminder. But I am now doubting if this is the right choice ….. because of our neighbour !

my question is , would you pre - warn her ? Is there anything she could do to deter me / stop me in setting this business up ? Or would you just set up and not mention it or is this unreasonable to do ? Do I Have to tell her ?

Thank you

I had a neighbour exactly like this, and they used to go bananas at the smallest of noises. In the end, we got our friend who is a housing law barrister to draft a letter stating that we have right to private enjoyment of the property and that children being children is perfectly within that right. He stated they could be sued for harassment if they bothered us further. Never heard from them again. Beautiful.

@Marley11as a mum to a 6 year old with ASD & ADHD, your not being unreasonable!

Kids play, kids get excited and make noise, if they’re not in the garden at antisocial hours, and not screaming all day, let them enjoy themselves! They can’t play silently, no kids do!

I recently posted for help on blocking out my neighbour noise (2 screaming kids + screaming sweary parent) and got told I was the unreasonable one OP, (kids being kids) and I have kids...
I now have fans in every room, loop earplugs, noise cancelling air pods & am readying my house to sell including the 100ft garden that I can no longer enjoy...
So in short I think you are unreasonable and your neighbour will probably move (like me)

Isn't white noise fantastic? My elderly neighbour has her TV blaring, sometimes up until 5 am in her bedroom and often falls asleep leaving it on anything up until 8 am from 8 pm. I have a small desk fan and put rain and thunder sounds on You Tube. Works a treat but we shouldn't have to do it.

Nice ageist dig.

Have you tried speaking to her?

Kids don’t need to make noise to play constructively and happily. That’s learned behaviour encouraged by parents who are utterly inconsiderate of other people.

Honestly keeping me sane right now, I've been here 10 years with no issues before they moved in & previously lived in multiple flats with no issues so I'm pretty confident I am not being unreasonable..

Buggered up the quote function. Never mind. As you were.

If your neighbour wants silence then she probably needs to move to a detached house with no neighbours in earshot. Do her dogs make noise? Our new neighbours have dogs who bark quite often and I kinda figured that it balances out the volume of our son’s voice. We get on well and no complaints! We also have a childminder around the corner, she can have anywhere between 4-8 kids at one time and yes they are bloody loud when playing in the garden but it’s not a horrible noise and you can’t begrudge her making a living (by all accounts she’s in demand and good at her job) or kids having fun!
