Why do people vote for Reform and in particular Nigel Farage?

Who else’s side would he be on, if not the British people’s? 🤔
He is definitely not on the side of illegal migrants or the woke leftists. So the only side left is that of the British people.
You might say he just wants to get into power. But to what purpose? To become rich? He already is.
His opponents like you just want to discredit him by any means.

He wants to be even richer. He wants to end govt funding for the NHS but refuses to say how Reform will fund it. He's for small government, and anyone on benefits who votes for Reform is like the proverbial turkey at yuletide.

@caringcarer You want lower taxes but more money spent on defence, education and benefits. How does that work?

You stop wasting so much money, that's how. Stop paying for gardening lessons and cake decorating for migrants and as for some London councils paying for immigrants DC being taught languages such as Somali the mind boggles. I've read about adverts for staff to teach these illegal immigrants balloon animal making g lessons. Stuff like this is happening up and down the country. Wtf can't their parents teach them if they want their DC to speak Somali? Why should council tax payers pay for it? No one needs to learn to make balloon animals or to decorate cakes. Stop paying for leaflets to be translated into so many languages. Stop giving legal aid to illegal immigrants. Stop housing them in 4* hotels. Put them in tents like they do across Europe. The pull factors are so strong to come to UK. This government wastes so much money. Then puts taxes high to pay for their reckless spending.

Because he is a snake oil charlatan?

Snake oil charlatan? Really? To what purpose?
He doesn’t strike me as such.
Do you call everybody whose policy you don’t agree with a ‘snake oil charlatan’?

I’m politically neutral. I think Farage was saying that Europe has an immigration problem- which is fact. It’s not exactly false is it?

That was pre 2016 and the immigrants he objected to were to the UK from the EU. Last time I looked the majority of them were white. Like I said, his is the only white face there. If you genuinely can’t see the racism in that there’s no hope for you. Obviously you can see it but have painted yourself into a corner.

luckylavender · 30/08/2025 18:13

@Jerrypicker- he often loses his temper, he’s very thin skinned. And he definitely dodges questions & does not have an answer for everything.

Sounds like Starmer not Farage !

This and stop encouraging people to come. As Andrew Neil said, you have to de -insensitive people to want to come to the UK. Poor France is probably sick to death of the UK because people are crossing all over Europe to get here.
If you come here illegally, the chances are you’ll stay. If your asylum is rejected, they’ll appeal. And probably win.

I don’t blame migrants wanting to come here because the country roles the red carpet out for them. The government meanwhile tries to tax everyone every way they can to pay for it.
My dad is in his 60s and retired at 58. He got a letter asking him if he’d like to return to work.

He laughed and threw the letter in the bin. They want him to go to work so he can support people who’ve came here illegally was his response. Thats a big no !

And stop foreign aid -

Which countries receive overseas aid?
In 2023, Ukraine was the top recipient of UK overseas aid. It received £250m - a decrease of £92m (26.9 per cent) - compared to 2022.

Ethiopia came second at £164m in 2023, a huge 82.4 per cent increase (£74m) compared to the year before. Afghanistan was third place, receiving £115m.
Syria, Yemen, Nigeria, Somalia, Pakistan, Brazil, and Bangladesh were all in the top ten recipients, receiving a combined total of £597m.

I don't agree to giving away so much money when the UK borrows money to do the gifting. It's madness. I hope Reform will stop this nonsense.

He's a politician. He's on his own side. And the options aren't either Farage supporters or 'illegal migrants or woke leftists'. It's not like there's only 2 perspectives in the whole country. Christonabike.

But you're right, he is rich, FROM THE MONEY HE'S MADE AS A POLITICIAN. How do you think he's made his money? His city company 'Farage Limited' went bankrupt. So the purpose of his political activity is to keep coining it in.

I'm not discrediting him by any means. He's discredited by the facts. As I've said elsewhere, if you want to believe in some fantastic myth and pretend it's not not insanity, go right ahead, see where it gets you.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/08/2025 23:54

Im not worried about Farage's Reform party succeeding at thr next election.

If it happens, it happens.🤷‍♀️

But it probably won't happen. For a start, Reform are a mess. Every day brings another story about their failure. To balance the books. To select their candidates properly. To improve the UK.

Nigel Farage himself wasn't willing to back them himself until a few weeks before the GE.

Also the next GE will happen after the Presidential election in the US. By which point RW politics will be poison to Liberal democracies and everyone else.

Actually he is a very intelligent man with excellent communication skills and very competent in debates. He has a distinct personality and charisma. He never loses his temper no matter how much some idiot wants to wind him up and I can tell he has a sense of humour. He doesn’t dodge questions and always has a measured answer.

If you read MN you get the impression that he is not popular, but MN does not represent the real world. MN is mainly a bunch of bored leftist housewives. Go on YouTube though, watch his speeches and it is a different story. Read the comment section below his videos and draw your own conclusion.
Here’s an example for you:

I was going to say something along these lines (apart from the bored housewives bit!)
That much of MN is seriously behind the curve on this topic, there are still many posters on here who call anyone voting for reform a thick racist and it’s a seriously outdated opinion. It’s not representative at all.
Some Reform policies are actually pretty sensible in my opinion. Scrapping HS2, scrapping DEI and banning teaching gender ideology in schools, for example. But I doubt anyone who calls Reform voters ‘thick racists’ would bother to read their policies because they don’t have much in the way of critical thinking skills.

@themoonandtenbob- there are many things we could criticise Starmer for but I can’t think of an occasion where he has lost his temper or been thin skinned.

When he called all the Southport protesters "far right thugs" ( BTW he called them all "criminals" before they'd even been arrested and taken to court.)

luckylavender · 31/08/2025 07:19

VeryStressedMum · 31/08/2025 07:35

Apart from their (anti) immigration stance I have no idea what they will or won’t do if they get voted in.
I don’t think they believe they will get in, maybe they’re aiming for at best a Tory coalition

luckylavender · 31/08/2025 07:39

@themoonandtenbob- I get it. You hate Starmer. I hate Farage.

SchrodingersTwat2 · 13/05/2025 01:34

Very few people do. The turn out was low. Of that number (19% here) only 20% voted for Reform.

That number would be much higher if a general election was held tomorrow.

Perhaps he was generalising because he knew about two in five of those arrested having previously been reported domestic abusers…

So you're happy paying £5 million a day to keep these migrants in idle luxury?

Well, some of us aren't 😡
