To think forced starvation is just plain evil!

On the BBC today. The UN has condemned using man made starvation as a war tactic. Surely we can come to a general consensus that whatever you think about the conflict, Israel's actions here are just plain evil?

Didn't remind of you of the Ethiopian famine, the starving children in Yemen, the starving children in Sudan, the Irish famine, the north Korean famine, the starving children in south Sudan then...?

Hamas was confiscating and selling the aid for high price to fund their war...
Sadly one, who would really want to, could argue that this is not starvation of population but starvation of terrorist organisation funds...
(not agreeing with the blockade, but it's not as simple as baddies vs goodies)

Which shows exactly why the situation is very nuanced and unless you’re a rather dim child, believing this is a case of evil people vs an entirely innocent population, is rather ignorant.

Hamas could change things for their citizens today but they don’t care enough. They give no fucks and using their citizens as human shields shows this.

At the risk of stating the obvious a two state solution would be the dream. But neither side who can actually make this happen seems to want this.

Yes it’s interesting how there are many people saying in the world but only Palestinians are being compared to the Holocaust

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 09:03

Using language like that is entirely a tool to make people look hysterical.

you don’t get to police my language, why can’t you answer the OP’s question, is the mass starving of the Palestinian people in Gaza wrong? I’ll wait …..

TomeTome · 11/05/2025 09:15

Neither the Palestinian government nor the Israeli government have demonstrated they are fit to rule. The people have shown they are unable to use democracy to secure safety and security for themselves. Time for the world to intervene.

Communitywebbing · 11/05/2025 09:15

ThereIsThunderInOurHearts · 11/05/2025 08:15

It is without doubt evil. The Israel government and army have shown the world what horrors they are capable of.

Not only does my heart break for the 2 million innocent civilians being starved to death, but for the Jewish people who are at risk of rising antisemitism because of a rogue government, led by war criminals.

There are no winners here. This genocide must end by all governments refusing to arm and fund Israel.

Thanks, you’ve said it.

Actually I do get to police language when you’re using language to make others look unreasonable.

Yes starvation is wrong. Duh. Which is perhaps why Hamas shouldn’t take aid off its citizens to sell or use that aid as tactics to support their terrorism.

Comparing the two is utterly offensive and antisemitic

Most criticism of the Israeli government has been met with cries of anti-semitism. A catch all term which allows them to carry on regardless of international condemnation. The arrogance is breathtaking.

MellowCritic · 11/05/2025 09:17

LavenderBlue19 · 11/05/2025 08:14

I don't think anyone is going to say it's a lovely thing to do.

Maybe not in those exact words but ppl are using other words to justify it!

I really don’t think the rest of the world cares, as has been demonstrated for a long time with inaction

That’s because anti-Israel sentiment is often peppered with antisemitism. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

I often see this accusation, please could you provide evidence? Israel has been caught out lying time and time again eg the Red Cross massacre, tunnels under homes and hospitals etc.

This whole thread is full of posts condemning the Israeli government and no one has called that anti semetic.

The holocaust inversion was called out.

Are you being serious? You don't see the news about gaza. All the ppl bring starved and the Israeli government supporters justifying the blockage of aid and food getting in. Do you read or see the news? Their starvation is being justified isn't it.. if it wasn't being justified the uk and the us government would come down hard on the Israeli government but they do not..

TheaBrandt1 · 11/05/2025 09:24

What’s extraordinary is that people don’t change. Despite our advancements in technology and education humans fight like this. Always have done. Read your history. Race / cause irrelevant and it happens still. Seems war innate in humans. So depressing.

Remembrance Day rings hollow for me now realising this.

So, for clarity, you’re agreeing with me that the Israeli government’s systematic starvation of the Palestinian population in Gaza is wrong and a war crime?
No whataboutery, no equivocation…

It's the blockades doing the most damage.

I assumed you meant on this thread.

Why do you think Israel is blocking aid?

Joyunlimited · 11/05/2025 09:27

WhereIsMyJumper · 11/05/2025 08:32

Called it. First page and we already have ‘what about Hamas’
FFS.
Is it possible that maybe, just maybe, the actions of BOTH Hamas and the Israeli government are deplorable and that innocent people on both ‘sides’ are suffering because of it?!

Yes, it is. That’s why it’s perfectly reasonable to ensure that the reprehensible actions of both sides, not just one of them, are mentioned.

TomeTome · 11/05/2025 09:28

I think most people would support the UN taking over now. It’s time we stopped this rather than wringing our hands on the sidelines.

I’m saying Hamas’s actions and complicity in starving their people is wrong.

Why do you think Israel is blocking aid? And what do you think of aid being stolen (as witnessed by aid workers) when it reaches Gaza? How are you going to blame Israel for that?
