To think forced starvation is just plain evil!

On the BBC today. The UN has condemned using man made starvation as a war tactic. Surely we can come to a general consensus that whatever you think about the conflict, Israel's actions here are just plain evil?

There is no famine in Gaza/

Bizarre that you are showing a man cooking a single tray of food in a bombed out shell as some kind of gotcha.

Unless you think that man is the second coming how many people will that feed?

Perhaps you missed the bit where I said it was a restaurant, so they'll be feeding as many people as come to the restuarant and order food. That's how restaurants work, I'm told.

Well, if you're really hungry you could go down to the Thailandy Restaurant and order a pizza or some delicious desserts. Watch all the way through to see the "starving" people of Gaza. https://x.com/i/status/1919054470970835403

Can you give me the definition of famine there tinyrabbit, do you think it means no food at all? It seems you are like the other poster yesterday and think that until there is no food left at all we should all just sit back and watch? Also you are right, there isn't famine yet, there is 'critical risk of famine'. This article explains what is happening, the levels of people with food insecurity etc. No where at all does it claim that there is no food, that's never been the claim.

James O'Brien was talking about Gaza today after reading Matthew Paris article today in the times. (sadly behind a paywall but titled 'Why are we closing our eyes to Gaza's horror')

It was as if both had spent time on threads like this one, saying that discourse is being completely shut down by those shouting the loudest and that referencing October 7 must precede any condemnation of Israel's government and army.

I really do believe that some on here view Palestinians as much lesser humans and not worthy of attention, much less sympathy.

The above post linking an instagram post further illustrates this.

I feel so desperately sad for the poor souls in Gaza - and also sad for those who have dehumanised them so much, their wretched reality is now being denied.

Maybe you should get in touch with the UN and tell them about this magical restaurant then

Was that this Thailandy restaurant. Might not be open because Israel killed everyone eating there including a woman with a baby in her arms and two small children.

Just wondering was it the same place. You might let me know.

That's horrific, attacking a community kitchen and busy market. It brings to mind the attacks on the bakeries at the start of the conflict, one by one taking out places needed to survive. I can't believe more than 18months on they are still attacking places that provide food. Like the complete block on aid isn't enough Palestinians have had their farmland destroyed, they are shot at while they fish, their markets, bakeries and restaurants are blown up, Israel are trying to cover all bases when it comes to making sure people suffer that for sure. Survival is resistance.

Agree: collective punishment of the Palestinian population by slow starvation.

This would also be my fear with the Central distribution points for aid that it would literally be like shooting fish in a barrel when they come to collect it

Can I ask if the people who are claiming there’s no famine are Israel or US based because the news in the UK and Europe is flooded with images and verified accounts from international Doctors. Also @stomachamelonare you based abroad, you say all jeeish people you know are pro Israel which is not my experience in the UK and Ireland, the jewish people I have spoken to are very opposed to Israel’s actions. Context is important.

I could be wrong..but a quick internet search says that they are at risk of famine. Now I'm not denying food shortages nor am I denying that people may be suffering from malnourishment but I don't think it's officially been declared a famine, has it? Therefore if that's the case, to say there's no famine is not actually incorrect?

Martymcfly24 · 12/05/2025 16:49

A famine classification is attributed when an area has at least 20% of households facing an extreme lack of food, at least 30% of children suffering from acute malnutrition, and at least two people for every 10,000 people die each day from starvation or disease linked to malnutrition.

That's the definition for declaring a famine while I imagine 20% are facing an extreme lack of food currently there would need to be 420 a day dying to declare a famine which is not happening yet but I imagine without any aid trucks entering will be the case in the near future.

User46576 · 12/05/2025 16:51

The only people actually starving in Gaza are the hostages. Yet we repeatedly are subjected to this nonsense on a regular basis. Use your common sense- if humans allegedly ran out of food and water over a year ago yet not a single one has suffered malnutrition (in fact obesity is an issue), why are you continuing to repeat this?

Good deflection of the question, how’s the weather there? So do you admit that people are actually starving to death, that accounts of children dying slowly as their hair and nails fall out is accurate?

This was the first part of your post I was responding to. If a famine hasn't actually been declared yet then those who are claiming there's no famine are correct, yes?

Again have you got access to the news in the UK or EU - where exactly are you getting your news sources from? Here in the UK we are seeing dead children, children slowly falling apart as their parents watch. You either do not watch TV or read newspapers or you are based somewhere with different news sources.

It is tipping into famine, as someone pointed out the official death toll has not tipped into 420 deaths a day from forced starvation by a hostile state yet but it will be there soon if something doesn’t change. It’s a bit of a straw man argument there - so you use the Act.il app?

Yes and that is why the situation is getting desperate and the international community are calling for humanitarian aid to start getting through and the blockade to be lifted.

@Comedycook what are you trying to achieve with your posts? You have posted extremely offensive things and questioned images of people in Gaza and whether they look hungry enough. What point are you making here? Do you think Israel should continue the blockade until it is a famine? Or we are just being overly dramatic?
