Come on mumsnet, creep my lifestyle!

Inspired by the personal stylist post - I’m wondering what is the best thing you’ve bought for yourself?

Mine has 100% been my peloton and all the dumbbells. First exercise I’ve ever stuck to!

Private medical tests when I knew something was wrong and I'd been fobbed off... turned out there was a glaring issue and I have a disability, which is now thankfully (mostly) well managed. Cost a fair amount altogether but worth every penny to stabilise my QoL.

NoTouch · 04/05/2025 23:19

Weight loss injections, life changing.

Helped me lose a significant amount of weight over the last year, off two medications I no longer need, blood pressure normal, more mobile and starting to exercise again.

IOYOYO · 04/05/2025 23:21

Psychotherapy - hands down the best money I’ve ever spent

Whatwouldnanado · 04/05/2025 23:23

Braces. Should’ve done it years ago. Did it same time as my kids. Have never smiled so much.

Changingplace · 04/05/2025 23:23

Good skin care routine.

NuffSaidSam · 04/05/2025 23:25

Probably University.

I think my life would have been considerably bleaker if I hadn't gone.

Badbadbunny · 04/05/2025 23:26

A standing desk. Literally changed my life. I have a desk based business/job and put on several stones due to being sedentary for 8 hours per day. Now I stand most of the day, I’ve lost 8 stones in weight, no longer suffer back and joint pain, reversed t2 diabetes and no longer have high blood pressure.

Jellycatspyjamas · 04/05/2025 23:27

Therapy here too - absolutely the best investment in myself, I’d pay it all over again if I needed to.

WeAreAllBucked · 04/05/2025 23:29

Weight loss jabs and Botox

How did you find a good therapist? I started earlier this year with one I found through BetterHelp but, to be blunt, didn’t find him clever/insightful enough and sacked it off!

Wow! Just from the desk ? That’s an amazing difference, maybe I should try one.

That is incredible! I bought one but ended up giving it to my husband because a pretty leather topped one came up from an Antique dealer I like 😂 I do exercise a lot though and they have them at work - it reminds me I should actually use them when I’m in the office and not just sit in my chair!

Moving out of my comfort zone and taking a job abroad. Life changing for me.

Hottchoc · 04/05/2025 23:33

A personal trainer and gym membership

JewelInTheTiara · 04/05/2025 23:36

Mines more about investing time with friends. I’ve got interesting friends who like to do interesting things. I love being able to go off somewhere and spend time with them.

BunfightBetty · 04/05/2025 23:37

Psychotherapy too. Also hypnotherapy.

BIossomtoes · 04/05/2025 23:40

Cataract surgery, it was the best £5k I’ve ever spent.

I found mine through her website, which sounded like she'd be closely aligned to what I was looking for. It took a couple of sessions before I was sure we clicked, but it was transformational. The hypnotherapist I found as through a recommendation from a friend. She was amazing - I made a lot of change really quickly.

JaceLancs · 04/05/2025 23:40

Private GP and private blood tests last year - I’ve been feeling awful for nearly 5 years and at least I now know why and am improving albeit slowly
The NHS just dismissed me and wouldn’t do the range of tests I needed

IOYOYO · 04/05/2025 23:43

@HeyItsPickleRick i know some people have had positive experiences of Better Help but I don’t find their ethics or principles v good. I’d ask around and see if you know anyone who’s had a positive experience with someone and can recommend. I’d also make sure they’re registered with BACP.

A good therapist will have a robust set of guidelines that they work by, will offer some sort of consultation - often a short unpaid conversation so you can get a feel for each other. There are many different types and modes so I’d do a bit of a reading on something like Psychology Today to find something suitable.

Finally, not everyone will be a good fit. It’s okay to say no thanks or to leave bc of that. A good therapist is worth the wait and can help you make huge changes.

TippledPink · 04/05/2025 23:48

Laser eye surgery in 2020. Was the best thing ever did!
