Come on mumsnet, creep my lifestyle!

Inspired by the personal stylist post - I’m wondering what is the best thing you’ve bought for yourself?

Mine has 100% been my peloton and all the dumbbells. First exercise I’ve ever stuck to!

Therapy (marriage and solo)

Peloton treadmill at home

Getting my awful gappy teeth fixed (crowns)

Teeth flossing. Seeing the daily trapped gunk come out each night makes me see why I had a bunch of root canals before I started this.

To improve my time usage - lens replacement surgery- I had so many different pairs of glasses as my brain can’t do varifocals or bifocals . was wasting so much time looking for the right glasses.
Volunteering in my skill set in Thailand making a real difference in several ways - reminded me I am very good at what I do. This is something I plan to make a regular gift to myself the ability to make a significant difference in the world. I will mix it up Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. It was a one health project.

Being single and living alone.

Appleblum · 05/05/2025 06:05

Learning to drive. It's so freeing!

coffeeagogo · 05/05/2025 06:12

2 things for me:

  • My peloton bike, weights and guide. I love it and use it nearly every day.
  • Also laser eye surgery in 2021, it has been life changing.

How did you find a good therapist? I started earlier this year with one I found through BetterHelp but, to be blunt, didn’t find him clever/insightful enough and sacked it off!

I had a couple of ones that I just didn’t click with, and then found someone who was just brilliant.

Have a think about the kind of things you want from therapy - I knew I had some trauma to work through and as a result had problems with self esteem, setting boundaries and coping with conflict. I looked for someone with decent qualifications (to Masters level) who was also very experienced (10 years plus) and could explain to me how she worked.

At the absolute core though she just got me. I initially spoke about something that was very current and very sore and she really understood why it impacted me that way and didn’t rush or try to get me to snap out of it. Therapy is the one place where the relationship really matters, in that the therapy all happens through the relationship so if you don’t click it’s totally fine to stop and go elsewhere.

I worked with her on and off for 6 years and it was truly transformative for me.

Neither, an autoimmune disease, although I am now under investigation for a thyroid issue as well.

I have years of being unwell too. Where did you go privately. ? I am sick of being fobbed off.
Bloods are coming back with inflammation markers and they just ignore it .
What bloods did you ask to be done specifically?

Doing pilates at home on YouTube. At 55 I never thought i could get so toned and fit... Ive got strong abs now and toned arms! It helps to ease my achy back and stiffness. I used to go the the gym but for me, pilates beats it hands down for results.

Sourisblanche · 05/05/2025 06:26

Moving countries, bit drastic but I’ve been thinking about this since 2017.

Also I deleted X and instagram freeing up lots of time for exercise and reading.

Roselilly36 · 05/05/2025 06:28

Laser eye treatment, in 2008, a lot of money, but worth every single penny.

Which Youtubers do you follow? I want to be toned and fit!

A standing desk. Literally changed my life. I have a desk based business/job and put on several stones due to being sedentary for 8 hours per day. Now I stand most of the day, I’ve lost 8 stones in weight, no longer suffer back and joint pain, reversed t2 diabetes and no longer have high blood pressure.

Wow that is amazing 👏 I might try that at work myself. I have rolled the weight on since doing a desk job, for sure.

Didn’t ask reply question quoting user correctly, it looked like I had posted the users quote

I went on life changing psilocybin retreats in the Netherlands, some in a group and 121, they have been truly transformative.

I have been able to connect with my feelings in ways that I just couldn't in therapy. I'm a better parent, partner, friend, colleague and I am so much nicer to myself. I can say that now I love myself and I love the parts of me that I disliked before.

I am so thankful that I was able to go and couldn't have done it without the mushrooms and therapist(s)/facilitators.

Love the user name! 🍄 I find this so fascinating, I have recently bought some GT to try to do some microdosing but would love to do one of those retreats since hearing about them last year - can I DM you about the places you've been? Unless you're happy to share them on this thread?

I find the concept of psilocybin therapy so interesting!

Can I ask if there is a slight delay in focus please and where you had it done!

QuizzlyBears · 05/05/2025 06:39

A good skincare routine, and therapy once a month. Like teeth brushing, it is maintenance - but it’s brushing my brain.

HollidaySunshine · 05/05/2025 06:40

Weightloss jabs, no question.

Life changing.

Could you recommend some you tubers with good Pilates videos? Thanks

Maternityleavelady · 05/05/2025 06:49

Rhinoplasty. Random people always felt the need to tell me what a big nose I had previously. It never happened once after that so has made a huge difference to my confidence and quality of life

But warch for the varicose veins from standing up all day!

Therapy with a clinical psychologist
Dental floss
Good shoes and boots and good handbags
Exercise rain hail or shine

My biggest positive life change came from getting divorced, so that was my most meaningful investment in myself.

BigDahliaFan · 05/05/2025 06:56

£2000 a year on personal training classes, 3 times a week.

£3000 on getting my varicose veins done privately, I’ve got normal legs this summer for the first time in years.

Azureshores · 05/05/2025 06:57

Braces and whitening - I now will happily smile and show my teeth after years of feeling self conscious about their crookedness.

Weight loss injections - 3 stone down in 4 months and i'm not dreading summer for once.

Designer shoes and bags - I own quite a few and they always make me feel good and elevate my outfit when I wear them. I tend to buy much less cheaper stuff in general nowadays and instead save for something really nice.

measureofmydreams · 05/05/2025 07:00

lens replacement surgery. about £8k but worth every penny.
