To think MNHQ should delete all chat about ‘the golden/bonus dose’ for those on WLI?

I use the weight loss forums quite a lot and with the arrival of WLI they are busier than ever. But, it’s worrying the amount of people who are misusing their prescription and discussing with others how to do so. Should MNHQ take action here?

II is not from a new pen - yes. BUT. The content and the dosage is exactly the same 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I know that.

However, the prescription says otherwise.

Hence this entire conversation.

Do look back at my previous posts on this thread before you start posting exasperated emojis.

GustyBaloo · 01/05/2025 23:56

I've used a syringe for my last pen as I know if I tried a hard twist, I'd probably end with a wet hand full of glass.

Such is my luck.

Smallsalt · 02/05/2025 00:39

How about you do you .

No it wasn't. It actually became a discussion with other view points being aired.
OP learned something. So did I - mainly that I'd never dare a hard twist!

Because the prescription is 4 doses using the pen as directed not 5 doses, 4 as directed and one with a needle you bought online?

whatever you think about taking the extra you cannot deny the misuse element

It’s not repurposing. It’s waste prevention.

People either feel confident to draw and self inject or they don’t. It’s a self-selecting group.

BottleBlondeMachiavelli · 02/05/2025 01:27

OP if your laundry detergent or toothpaste was packaged in such a way that it forces you to throw away 20% of the product each time, would you happily accept that?

IwasDueANameChange · 02/05/2025 01:34

WLI are already massively abused by people lying about their weight in order to access them or stay on them.

I think that's as big an issue as people taking more than the dose.

Either way i am stunned at so many people who are not obese, but are so willing to inject themselves with drugs to lose weight.

I don’t think people are taking higher than prescribed doses (or are they? I hadn’t understood that anyway.)

Isn’t about making an (expensive) own last 5 weeks instead of 4?

People of completely healthy weight lying to get it is more of a concern. I have sympathy with the people with borderline BMIs though.

I can post anything I want so don't tell me what to do.

Sure, paracetamol are not issued in a measured dose pen.

Look, if you can even be bothered to engage in conversation, why did you even start the thread?

I suggest you go and mind your own business and stay out of other peoples

SilenceInside · 01/05/2025 16:53

Of all the things discussed to do with WLIs that could be seen as controversial, this is the least concerning one imo.

I take Mounjaro, I use the remaining liquid to do an extra dose, to save money. I've been on the same dose for months now, and injecting it via the pen mechanism versus extracting it and injecting it with a separate syringe gives me the exact same dose of medication. I don't find that particularly problematic nor something that shouldn't be discussed.

Maybe we should ban all COL & 'stretching the budget' threads, maybe that would make the OP happy?

I better stop standing the washing up liquid bottle upside down to get the rest out of it, or she'll be on about that next🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 01/05/2025 17:37

The vast majority of people using them are abusing them in the first place, hence not getting it through a GP and having medical supervision. I'm buggered if I'd risk my health for a lazy fix.

Do you have similar concerns about the hay-fever jab, the flu vaccination, and period delay medication? All are prescription medication available direct from pharmacies often including online pharmacies just like WLI.

Have you tried reading the full thread?

Sometimes it can stop you looking a bit daft.

Don't stop on my account though.

I am taking at the moment - I am very unsure if it is fully in date to be honest if doing this as whilst the in date on the outside of the box is quite a few months , once you have pierced and used isn’t it meant to be used up within 30 days? and to be fair I can’t be arsed with the faff , so haven’t done it .

It’s not about once you’ve pierced it. The medicine keeps for months so long as you keep it in the fridge. It’s 30 day life span is once you remove it from the fridge. Most people prefer to keep it out of the fridge once they start the course because they find the cold injections uncomfortable.

additionally even if you remove it from the fridge at the time of your first dose on day 1, the rest of your injections would be on day 8, day 15 and day 22, meaning that you would take the bonus/golden dose on day 29, so still within the 30 day window.

OuchyEars · 02/05/2025 09:23

Props to you OP for your posts since your op.

There are going to be a lot of posters coming in with a reaction having only read the first post. There's no harm in making a final post and then ignoring if you can.
You've taken a lot of flak and held yourself well imo. Good luck.

SilenceInside · 02/05/2025 09:25

@soupforbrains "It’s 30 day life span is once you remove it from the fridge."

That's not quite right. The 30 days is counted either from when you first use the pen or when it is removed from the fridge and is no longer kept between 2 and 8 degrees C.

You can see that explained in the patient instruction leaflet, screenshot attached.

People are already ordering this stuff off the internet so they must be comfortable with the risk associated with that. I can’t see why it makes any difference except to the people who are charging for it.

The overwhelming majority of those posting on MN about WLI are buying them on private prescription from legitimate GPhC registered Pharmacies. Some of those are online only, others are both online and physical shops, a few are in shop only.

All follow the same prescribing guidelines and regulations as any other private prescriber.

The NHS criteria is stricter for cost saving/resource reasons.

Just because the medication is prescribed online doesn't mean it is more risky. Indeed my NHS GP will prescribe various medicines following an online consultation.

The irony that this post has effectively become the most comprehensive guide on how to take the golden doses I’ve yet seen on Mumsnet has really made my day. 🤣🤣

Either way the bonuses dose takes place on day 29 so it’s irrelevant.

I’m wasn’t trying to shit stir I just posted a question for discussion, realised I was U, acknowledged it and that’s it. Sometimes people say things you don’t agree with and that doesn’t mean they are shit stirring. My OP came from a place of ignorance and I have learned a lot. But o absolutely didn’t oust to shit stir.

Thank you. This is the advice I’m going to follow.

thanks to everyone for explaining, even the ones who were slating me for just not having the knowledge or understanding initially. I got there and who knows, maybe I will be ordering insulin needles soon!!

The irony that this post has effectively become the most comprehensive guide on how to take the golden doses I’ve yet seen on Mumsnet has really made my day. 🤣🤣

It hasn't though.

Some people are claiming they use their pen. Some are saying hard twist. Some are saying needles.

There's very little if any info how to use the needle, how to withdraw the excess, the amount to withdraw or where to get to get needles from.

There are TONS of other threads giving that info.

The info on here is all a garbled if not incorrect.
