To think MNHQ should delete all chat about ‘the golden/bonus dose’ for those on WLI?

I use the weight loss forums quite a lot and with the arrival of WLI they are busier than ever. But, it’s worrying the amount of people who are misusing their prescription and discussing with others how to do so. Should MNHQ take action here?

MN put the usual disclaimer at the top of the WLI/T board, just like they do on any other health related section. You cannot ban people talking about this one particular medication, when there are similar discussions about all kinds of things on the boards.

I’m not suggesting people blame their decisions on what some random we said but I do see a lot of people with little understanding of what they are doing take advice from these forums

You are correct that policing it would be a never ending job, however less people would post if it wasn’t allowed to be posted, so less policing needed

What's the problem then if people's actions aren't being influenced by the posts?

istrich · 01/05/2025 16:37

Blueskies25 · 01/05/2025 16:34

There is an awful lot of misinformation on this forum, do you expect MNHQ to police it all

No I don’t I was just raising the discussion as to whether or not this should be a topic that’s not allowed. It was certainly reduce the amount of threads about it, even if they can’t eliminate it

Rewis · 01/05/2025 16:38

Part of me thinks that people should have critical thinking skills and it is not the responsibility of the site. Especially since the aite is not targeted to underaged children.

SilenceInside · 01/05/2025 16:39

@istrich you can hide the whole WLI/T section if you are bothered by the number of threads about a topic that you don't like.

spoonbillstretford · 01/05/2025 16:40

I haven't done it with mine, as I don't want to muck about with small doses, but I wouldn't say it was particularly dangerous or ill advised, given it's a smaller dose than the others.

Right, but not everyone is as able as you or I. I saw a poster once ask where you put the needle in to get the liquid out and it baffled me that after following instructions 4 times to use her pen that she didn’t cotton on she was putting a needle in to the pen and that’s how it came out. If she know she would have know where to put the needle for the extra. People who have less understanding are more likely to get it wrong.

No this is the joy of MN - women chat, women decide whether or not to take the advice or not, women are not censored by MN. Sometimes it brings us extreme joy when it comes to medical issues - I always smile when I think of the home-haemorrhoid removal thread years back.

I use it all the time, I’m very active in WL forums but i can raise the discussion whilst also using the board, surely?

Right well you obviously not seen a pen or know how they work as the way you use the supplied needles is totally different to how you extract the additional dose. The forums are full of knowledgeable and experienced users of WLI who give accurate and careful advice, based on actual knowledge.

I haven’t seen that many threads specifically on the golden dose

But if some bad advice got through that MNHQ didn’t delete than people like you would be suing MN.

ShaunaSadeki · 01/05/2025 16:45

So you want to have a discussion about you wanting to ban other people discussing something?

Dymaxion · 01/05/2025 16:46

The people I know who are removing the remaining medication from the pens are doing it so they get an extra week free , not so they are taking it as not prescribed if that makes sense @istrich
Are you saying people are giving themselves additional doses ?

Shefliesonherownwings · 01/05/2025 16:47

Why does it bother you?

SilenceInside · 01/05/2025 16:47

Also, @istrich you seem to have not noticed that there is a specific section for WLI/T and that there are all the other sections available including Weight Loss Chat for you to chat in where people generally aren't posting about injections.

Goodness no don’t be ridiculous.

’people like me’? I’m just asking if it should be a ‘no go’ area. That’s all. I’m not looking to bloody sue anyone.

No I’m not saying that. Non taking about exactly what you describe

OP posts:
Fireangels · 01/05/2025 16:49

The extra medication in the pen is there to account for any that is lost when the pen is primed. Sometimes a tiny drop is released and sometimes a fair quantity squirts out. I can understand why those that pay for the pens want to make an extra dose with the leftover fluid.

istrich · 01/05/2025 16:49

ShaunaSadeki · 01/05/2025 16:45

I wondered if it should be a no go topic yes. It’s ok to ask the question.

OP posts:
Oakcupboard · 01/05/2025 16:50

there are many nurse prescribers in private weight loss clinics who recommend their patients using the extra dose because it’s so expensive. It’s perfectly safe

also I’m sure there’s financial motivation from pharmaceutical companies to discourage the use of the 5th dose

xanthomelana · 01/05/2025 16:52

So technically we should delete this thread because it’s about the bonus dose?

I have used it for 6 months. What you are suggesting here is exactly my point though. I use the pen and I understand where you would put a needle. Some people do not understand this by the time they get to wanting the extra dose. I probably explained that badly but it was ment to be an example of how some people just don’t understand how things works and should not be messing about with insulin needles.

Summerseagull · 01/05/2025 16:53

Don't be daft
It's expensive stuff .
Why would a you waste a week's worth every month
