To think MNHQ should delete all chat about ‘the golden/bonus dose’ for those on WLI?

I use the weight loss forums quite a lot and with the arrival of WLI they are busier than ever. But, it’s worrying the amount of people who are misusing their prescription and discussing with others how to do so. Should MNHQ take action here?

@youcannaecallherfanny it's always been at least 0.6ml and often more like 0.8 or 0.9ml for me. It would only be less than 0.6ml if you had done lots of priming that released a lot of liquid. And then, you could still measure it and work out what dose it would be and decide if it was worth using it.

The fact that the manufacturer doesn't intend for people to use the leftover medication, doesn't mean that it isn't possible or that it is somehow different to the rest of the medication in the pen.

youcannaecallherfanny · 01/05/2025 17:18

I wouldn’t use it as it’s prepping dose and shouldn’t really leave enough for a full dose if the prep is done properly to avoid air bubbles. breaking a syringe to use another syringe to extract medication - doesn’t sound safe to me.

I can only imagine that you’re the UK product manager for Mounjaro.

Haha

it’s a discussion that’s all

Aren’t you asking to delete discussions you don’t like, though? 🤔

It doesn’t matter that you’re ‘just asking’, as soon as you make MN responsible for deleting health information, you make them liable.

Their current approach of a disclaimer is better.

Well I’m no lawyer so I didn’t know that would make them liable.

Anyone can ask for this to be deleted if they don’t like it

OP, to try and understand your position, could you say what perspective you’re coming from? Got friends/family you’re concerned about, or a medical background, or looking into it for yourself? Just interested? I think it would help us understand you.

for me, even if someone doesn’t understand dosage, the leftover amount is more or less one dose, and even if it’s slightly over, having used the 4 previous doses means that your body should be able to cope on a higher dosage anyway. Assuming they stick the needle in the same place as the previous injections, I don’t see how wrong it can go?

You crack on then.

I wouldn’t. But I can easily afford the pens and cba with ordering syringes, breaking pens and trying to scrape every last ml out.

YABU for not having a vote.
YAalsoBU for using jargon which most AIBU readers won't know.
YABU for putting it here for the traffic because of both the above reasons.

I vote YABU.

Sorry I didnt even see how to do a vote but it’s ok I’m guessing 100% would pick IABU

I don’t really have a position tbh. I was asking if IABU and I guess the answer is yes.

fair dos

I think it would be a nightmare for MN to monitor those posts, and people are going to do it regardless so better they are properly informed on sites like MN where there are many experienced long term users.

The only reason pharmacies advise against it is bc it means less money for them, let's be honest. Has anyone ended up in hospital yet for taking the bonus dose? I don't think so.

naemates · 01/05/2025 17:23

are you in favour of doing it, just not talking about it?

I can easily afford the pens too but to effectively chuck away £50 worth of medication is bonkers. It's easy as pie to do it with an insulin syringe - actually easier than faffing with the screw on needle.

No

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 01/05/2025 17:25

@youcannaecallherfanny thanks, I will do. To be clear, I always prime the needles properly to remove air bubbles when using the pen. I still have plenty of medication left over, as I am usually fortunate not to have duff needles. You also don't need to break the pen to extract the medication using a syringe, and at that point the pen has already been used for the 4 normal doses, so you'd be about to throw it away anyway. No need to worry about breaking it.

I can also easily afford the pens, and ordering syringes was extremely straightforward too. I just don't see the point in throwing away enough medication to do an additional dose, and the money saving is a bonus.

It is and will remain a mystery to me why some people even think about trying to police this kind of thing never mind start hectoring threads about it.
You do your shit OP and everyone else will do theirs. It really has got the square root of fuck all to do with you.

No I don’t I was just raising the discussion as to whether or not this should be a topic that’s not allowed. It was certainly reduce the amount of threads about it, even if they can’t eliminate it

You can always hide the WLI board.

It's none of your business to police what the majority of people who use MJ do perfectly safely.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 01/05/2025 17:33

Im with you OP. Too many people are messing with drugs they don't understand.

There will be consequences.

Absolutely. I can easily afford the medication too, because I'm not daft enough to throw money in the bin.

Crikeyalmighty · 01/05/2025 17:33

Ah yes you are correct - I’m not doing it myself as I’m not sure if I will continue but yep I do see why others are

SpidersAreShitheads · 01/05/2025 17:33

I'm not really sure how the extra dose thing works, but on the face of it, I can't see much of a problem.

But I do think there is a HUGE problem about how the WLI are discussed, and the lack of transparency around posts and opinions.

"Oh, the WLI are TOTALLY fine, I've not had any side effects at all and they have completely changed my life - by the way, do you want my discount code hun?"

I'm not opposed to the WLI, but I am opposed to the (lack of) proper checks from some prescribers. I think it's deeply unethical to be incentivising users to get other users to sign up - I can't think of any other powerful medical treatments that do the same. And we know from the many stories that many prescribers aren't checking medical background robustly, and many have the most basic "checks" in place.

I don't think it's possible, but I really wish MN wouldn't allow people to share codes etc on here. I think it encourages a lack of honesty from some, and I think this is a subject that would really benefit from truthful conversations.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/05/2025 17:34
