You are given the power to make three things illegal. What would you choose?

I know people will post silly things that irritate them but think seriously. What three things would you make completely illegal right now?
Here's mine:

  1. The right to buy your council house
  2. Owning more than one property.
  3. Not keeping your cat contained in your own home. With hefty fines if it is caught killing any wildlife.
OP posts:

The one about cats is the most bizarre.

Morningup · 27/04/2025 08:41

Huge lorries

Jackrussellsaremad · 27/04/2025 08:42

Too many things are illegal these days. I think more currently illegal things should be made legal.

Morningup · 27/04/2025 08:42

number 3 puts you in a very odd light op

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/04/2025 08:42

1: standing like a twat at the top or bottom of a staircase or escalator
2: wearing leggings in public without a bum covering top
3: chewing gum

SlagPit · 27/04/2025 08:43

Holiday homes

Littering

Buying clothes to wear once

Kittyfur · 27/04/2025 08:43

Factory farming

Morningup · 27/04/2025 08:43

Given your other thread on the go op I’m surprised you didn’t go with

“bum cheeks fully on show in public”!

gannett · 27/04/2025 08:44

Number three is not very serious at all OP. What about wild cats? Strays? You are aware that "wildlife" includes several predatory carnivores?

Simonjt · 27/04/2025 08:44

Abusing animals, this would include paying other people to abuse them on your behalf, so paying someone to keep in a pig in poor conditions, paying someone to mince male chicks, paying someone to kill an animal etc.

Producing jars, bottles etc without having a deposit scheme available to increase the likelihood of them being recycled.

Sunbeds.

ItsBouqeeeet · 27/04/2025 08:44
  1. Posting bizarre things like the cat one on Mumsnet. Lifetime ban.
redcord · 27/04/2025 08:44

Shout out to all the council house-renting, indoor cat owners. The OP thinks you are totes amaze!

letsnotIRL · 27/04/2025 08:45
  1. Smoking or drinking or any type of substance abuse while pregnant.
  2. Social media before the age of 16.
  3. Illegal to become a parent without doing some sort of parenting course. Once woman has first scan, both parents should be sent for classes to ensure child safety at home.
  4. DP says smoking altogether should be illegal.
LMichelleFxx · 27/04/2025 08:45
  1. Watching videos / listening to music in public without headphones.
  2. Parents not “parenting” children in public.
  3. Parking in a parent and child bay without a child.

I'd ban alcohol
Parents who prioritise cigarettes, alcohol, huge TVs etc over feeding and clothing their kids
Agree with poster who said no selling off of council homes

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 27/04/2025 08:46

Dogs without both lead and muzzle in public places.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 27/04/2025 08:47
  1. overpoliteness at roundabouts (just go, it’s your right of way!)
  2. dressing up days at school
  3. moaning about cats

Can you talk me through how that would work in practise?

Aprilweather · 27/04/2025 08:48

That cat one I assume includes owner's garden so, yeah I get that one... But not the fines since it's its garden
(victim of years long territory fight between local cats, who marked their "territory" aka my garden with poops).

-renting out properties with no sound proofing including even just basic one

-loudpeakers use by people on public transport

rubicustellitall · 27/04/2025 08:49

1..Attatched bottle tops
2..Half priced Easter Eggs
3..Tom Hardy
Any of the above could have me in trouble for different reasons at any time normally!

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 27/04/2025 08:49
  1. Dogs in Restaurants
  2. Dogs in shops
  3. Dogs on public Transport

(Assistance dogs - real ones- allowed)

CanYouTurnItDown · 27/04/2025 08:49

Here are my three, I’ve taken the liberty of suggesting a punishment too.

Moaning about dogs - scold’s bridal
Dropping litter - made to go and work on the rubbish tips (wherever they used to show clips of this on comic relief) looking for stuff to sell to survive. We could share their worldly goods with the people who have to work there so it helps those people too.
People who block junctions in traffic jams - cars should be removed and they should be banned from driving
