I know people will post silly things that irritate them but think seriously. What three things would you make completely illegal right now?
Here's mine:

  1. The right to buy your council house
  2. Owning more than one property.
  3. Not keeping your cat contained in your own home. With hefty fines if it is caught killing any wildlife.

Woodchip wallpaper with 40 years of paint on every wall and ceiling in a house

Redhairandhottubs · 27/04/2025 09:01
  1. Cycling on main roads
  2. Being allowed to park multiple work vans and caravans in residential parking areas (this is very much an issue where I live!)
  3. Bonfires in back gardens
InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 27/04/2025 09:02
  1. Plastic - there are biodegradable alternatives that companies don’t use as they are slightly more expensive.

  2. Pornography and prostitution - women won’t ever be fully respected or achieve equality whilst society is participating in the commercial sexual exploitation of women en Masse.

  3. Factory farming.

Annoyingsquirrels · 27/04/2025 09:02

Food additives, emulsifiers and artifical preservatives

Bonfires

Over sized cars

  1. everyone has the right to buy their council home at a significantly reduced price

  2. cats. Cats everywhere. Everyone must own at least 1 cat. Actually, 2.

  3. working past 5pm (in a 9-5 job) because there's still so much to do despite you working 50 hours already because your company won't employ enough people to do the job immediately incurs £100 per hour overtime for the worker.

ConflictofInterest · 27/04/2025 09:04
  1. Insecticides/pesticides
  2. Private vehicles for individuals
  3. Farming animals for food

The one about cats is the most bizarre.

Disagree. Coming from Australia, feral cats are a massive problem for farmers and for native wildlife.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 27/04/2025 09:05

SpringSunshineanddaffodils · 27/04/2025 08:57

Let's just build and build and build until we have no green land left and in the meantime let the cats run around killing all the native wildlife in sight.
What a wonderful future world you paint a picture of.

As long as the population is increasing at the rate it is, there is no choice but to continue building.
People are earning less whilst property properties sky rocket, social housing has no choice but to expand.
I didn't paint the picture.
It is what it is.

PineappleChicken · 27/04/2025 09:06

Becoming a parent without having completed a 12 week planning/preparation course and a 12 week parenting course.

Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, and all the other internet shite. Add to that the ‘job’ of ‘influencing’.

All the little loopholes that allow feckless morons to avoid paying for their kids.

Fireandflames · 27/04/2025 09:06

I agree with all three of those things, people are too greedy and irresponsible with pet ownership.

for me it would be:

  1. Smoking of any kind
  2. People not paying for or not seeing their children.
  3. Homo/Transphobia. Wars. Weapons.
Peanut91 · 27/04/2025 09:07

Not necessarily making something illegal but I would change the justice system so that all convicted criminals replace animal testing. Petty theft....you get to test cosmetics. Rape or mass murder....the nasty cancer drugs for you

Badgerandfox227 · 27/04/2025 09:07
  1. smartphones for under 16s
  2. all dogs should require a licence and have their dna stored so we can identify which owner is leaving dog poo - massive fine if left
  3. Cash - the older generation have had electronic money for decades now, we need to move to digital, will hep prevent money laundering (barbers are a big problem by me with lots getting raided for this) and ensure that all earnings are taxed, not just those of us on PAYE
Yolo12345 · 27/04/2025 09:09

Disband the cartels and drugs industry
Marriage
Privatisation of water, railways, other key industries

But you also think people should be allowed to own as many homes as they can afford. Whilst there is a housing crisis and the population is ever-increasing.

car headlights would not dazzle oncoming traffic

Chimneys with huge amounts of smoke pouring out would get hefty fines every day it happens

opinion “news” media would be held accountable for the uninformed bile they spout as “truth”

broccolienthusiast · 27/04/2025 09:12
  1. Eating animals and animal products.
  2. Vivisection.
  3. Any sort of animal abuse and exploitation.
CopperWhite · 27/04/2025 09:12

1 I’m with you on the cats. Owners need to keep them out of other people’s gardens.

2 Adults cycling on roads

3 Children using tablets or smartphones

frozendaisy · 27/04/2025 09:12

actually I would change social media so it could be traced back to user

ZepherinDrouhin · 27/04/2025 09:12
  1. Reality TV - as it's lead to the demise of critical thinking & more stupid people
  1. Non- medical plastic surgery - people look fucking horrendous with bad plastic surgery jobs
  1. Non payment of child maintenance- if you're a nrp and not paying child maintenance then the law should go after you. I think it should be taken at source like tax from the salary.
BlueandWhitePorcelain · 27/04/2025 09:17
  1. properties in the UK can only be bought by British citizens or companies wholly owned and registered in the UK (not subsidiaries of overseas companies)
  2. companies cannot be bought by loading them with debt - they can only be bought by purchasing shares with external debt
  3. key industries like energy, water, steel, coal, food production (including farming) cannot be owned by foreign companies (in fact renationalise energy and water; and make sewage discharges into the environment illegal with it)
SapporoBaby · 27/04/2025 09:17

Alcohol. I’ve seen it fuck up so many lives. It costs the country so much money in NHS costs, police, social care etc.

Social media under age 18.

Loud motorbikes. Anyone who mods a bike to add more sound should have their licence revoked.

RaininSummer · 27/04/2025 09:17

Vapes unless to aid in giving up smoking. Those adaptations to vehicles which make them sound like gunshots.
Internet for under 16s.

BeeCucumber · 27/04/2025 09:17

I would make it illegal to use the phrase “reaching out”. You contact people.

I would make it illegal to avoid child support for your children as a non-resident parent.

I would make it illegal to park on anyone’s driveway or block a driveway.

Wow, of all the things you could choose. Nothing that actually matters. Maybe the council house one to a degree

  1. Smoking.
  2. Vaping.
  3. Cycling/being on a scooter.

The last one is a joke. Kinda.

They're always in the way! When you're on the pavement - nearly get mowed down by cyclists, when you're in the car - get held up by cyclists! Bugger off! 😩

The first two can be just in public. I don't care what people do in the privacy of their own homes, I don't want to be inhaling your sickly fumes, thank you very much! Plus, you look fucking stupid.

And smoking stinking weed, I don't care if they smoke themselves to death, it's the smell that is vile.
