I know people will post silly things that irritate them but think seriously. What three things would you make completely illegal right now?
Here's mine:

1. The right to buy your council house
2. Owning more than one property.
3. Not keeping your cat contained in your own home. With hefty fines if it is caught killing any wildlife.

I love seeing people get irate about daft things that will NEVER change. Cats will always be allowed outside. So keep being bothered about it OP, keep releasing that cortisol into your body over pointless stuff and see where it gets you in life..

1.Social media "experts" who pontificate on things they know nothing about (see current beige food thread)
2.Shit neighbours, especially those with noisy children
3.People who misuse the NHS

1. smoking and vaping. I hope to see them illegal in my lifetime
2. having a dog off-lead in a public place (and leads must be no longer than 2m)
3. paving over your front garden to use it for parking

Having children irresponsibly - I.e. bringing them into a life of poverty and substandard conditions.

YABU with 1 and 3. My parents would never have been able to own their own home if they couldn't have paid it off through the council.

And cats hunt, that's nature. Birds hunt too. So does everything. It's the circle of life. I agree with keeping cats confided to your property though.

But you also think people should be allowed to own as many homes as they can afford. Whilst there is a housing crisis and the population is ever-increasing.

Not sure about this. Dogs used to be allowed to roam when I was a child. There was no compulsory microchipping. Unwanted kittens and puppies were drowned in a bucket rather than spaying/neutering. It was normal to keep pet birds in tiny cages.....stuff does change.

If number three was law I wouldn’t have cats, it would be cruel to keep them cooped up. Having been in a pub this week where a dog was sitting on a cushioned chair and drinking from a half-pint glass (held by owner in case you’re conjuring up some cartoon image!) I know which side I’m on. So, OP, I know you asked us to be serious but because you set the bar I’m going to go with the first thing that sprang to mind when I read you’re title…

Second homes especially starter size homes as this disrupts the market. (Some BTL and HMO’s can do this too.

Lifetime council tenancy. MIL has one, moved in with 3 kids in the early 90s, Huge 3 bed house. Now it's just her, pays a ridiculous amount in bedroom tax but they can't move her to a smaller one bed property even though she often says she can't manage such a large house anymore due to health conditions.

Leaving dogs at home alone all day whilst owners go off to work. I don't care if you have a dog walker come in a couple times a day, don't have a dog if you can't provide it with basic care. You get a dog for companionship and then leave it alone for 8+ hours a day, why?

Plastic bags and unnecessary plastic packaging. Start with the companies, perhaps a plastic tax on every item packaged in plastic.

I'll probably get some hate for this one but SAHP once your children are of school age. Completely normal when kids are little but once they start school, get a job.

270 million small animals and birds killed by pet cats in the UK. Some states in Australia have banned them from being allowed out. Pet cats exist in a density that would never occur naturally. There are many people who would support a ban on free roaming cats.
