Who do you think of if I mention the song Vienna?

AIBU to think most people think of Ultravox if asked "Who sang Vienna?"
My DD reckons more people think of Billy Joel.(I didn't even know he had a much earlier single out called Vienna)
So my fellow Mumsnetters, tell me who you think of please?

I think of billy joel but it’s because i love him. I would expect most people to say Ultravox.

I instantly thought Ultravox. Didn’t even know Billy Joel had done a different Vienna song. Asked DH (a secret Billy Joel fan) and he sang “OHHHHH VIENNNAAAAAAAAA” back at me in Ultravox style. I asked him
if he knew any other Vienna songs. He did not.

I’m in my late 30s and it’s definitely Ultravox.

I like Billy Joel and “The Stranger,” the album Billy Joel’s ‘Vienna’ was from but ‘Vienna’ (Billy Joel’s song) is average by his standards. I can relate to an earlier poster who described it as “middle of the road schmaltz.” I don’t think the accordion solo helps! The same album has Just The Way You Are, She’s Always A Woman, Movin’ Out and Scenes from an Italian Restaurant on it.

I like quite a lot of Billy Joel songs, but I didn't know he did one called Vienna.

Ultravox's Vienna, OTOH is iconic.

I think of the ultravox song. I’m 64, probably listened to more Billy Joel but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard his Vienna.

I was responding to someone talking about people not knowing who the band Ultravox was. Not the song itself.

Also Billy Joel's Vienna was featured on the movie 13 going on 30 which was quite popular.

Oh my, I’d forgotten about Ultravox! Definitely them I’d think of. Such a huge fan in my teens and went to see them live. Beautiful voice Midge Ure had (or Mick Urge as my dozy friend used to call him)

I'm responding to myself because I looked it up and ultravoxes single Vienna sold about 500,000 copies primarily in the UK. Billy Joel's single Vienna sold over 1 million copies in quite a few countries including over 600,000 copies in the UK. So not only is it more popular overall it was more popular in the UK.

I thought Ultravox.

But I just typed 'Vienna' into the search box of Apple Music and Ultravox were the SIXTH result! (Not in the UK)

I liked Dancing With Tears In My Eyes better than Vienna, I know a lot of people do rave about Vienna. That's just me though!

I am 25 and have never heard of Ultravox and know this as a Billy Joel song as do most of my peers I believe.

Maybe due to the fact it was in a 2000’s film popular with this age group? (13 going on 30)
