AIBU to think most people think of Ultravox if asked "Who sang Vienna?"
My DD reckons more people think of Billy Joel.(I didn't even know he had a much earlier single out called Vienna)
So my fellow Mumsnetters, tell me who you think of please?

I think of Billy Joel first because I absolutely adore that song.

However, I do then think of Ultravox because I also love that song.

TikTok is apparently awash with the Billy Joel version. My 14 year old was amazed I had it on a little silver disc I keep in a plastic case 🤭

I’ll explain. When I got my first “ghetto blaster” (a double deck tape player and radio) for Christmas, I recorded the Radio 1 All Time Top 100 (as voted by listeners) and I just have a memory of sitting in their hall to listen to it. Presumably the grownups were in the front room with Channel 4 Boxing Day Racing on! It was the first time I remember hearing Vienna; I think they were around number 3, or even number 1. It must have been 1987 or 88.

OMG I love Billy Joel and have loads of his albums, but I never knew he sang Vienna!

I think he's very popular with young folks though. No reason he wouldn't be, but did Ultravox break up? So Billy Joel still has all
the impact of being a current star as he's still touring, though I think he had to pause for some medical stuff.

Just to reiterate Billy Joel’s Vienna and Ultravox’s Vienna are two completely different songs with different lyrics not two different versions of the same song.
