Who do you think of if I mention the song Vienna?

AIBU to think most people think of Ultravox if asked "Who sang Vienna?"
My DD reckons more people think of Billy Joel.(I didn't even know he had a much earlier single out called Vienna)
So my fellow Mumsnetters, tell me who you think of please?

Anyone else feeling as old as the hills reading all these teenagers who are obviously too young to be on MN unsupervised saying they've never heard of Ultravox?

Aged 53 and I’d say Ultravox. I loved The Stranger album, and my parents played it constantly so heard Joel’s Vienna a million times. But it’s an album track so I guess I will have heard Ure’s song 100 times as many as it’s by far more played on the radio.

ETA I had no idea Billy’s version was being played on tik tok admittedly 🤣

I've never heard of Ultravox. Vienna by Billy Joel was on the 13 Going on 30 soundtrack, which is where I heard it.

Well my immediate thought was Midge Ure, so yes Ultravox. It would have made me think of Joe Dolce before Billy Joel as I had no idea he had a song called Vienna and I’ve seen him in concert!

I would have said Ultravox. Most recently heard by me as the soundtrack for an emotional Natalie & Travis reunion snog in season 1 of Yellowjackets.

It was introduced to me by the Florence Given book "Women living deliciously" so it will always makes me think of The Billy Joel version. It makes me cry for some annoying reason!

The Ultravox "Vienna" was used in a particularly grim scene in 13 Reasons Why a few years ago.

Mid 50s. I knew the Ultravox version first, but when I saw the thread I could only think of the Billy Joel one and had totally forgotten about Ultravox. I have always been much more of a Billy Joel fan though.

I had to do similar recently with the VHS. I got "oh yeah, I remember you used to put some kind of black rectangle on" in reply. It took everything not to book myself into dignitas there and then.

When anyone mentioned Vienna, the obvious thing to say was 'it means nothing to me' and everyone groaned. The first sign that you were getting old was when you said that, and the person you'd said it to didn't have a clue what you were on about. Early 2000s when it first happened to me!

I went to the National Space Centre with my 21 year old son. It has a mock up of a typical living room the year of the first moon landing.
He was somewhat taken aback that I remembered the wall paper and picture from my nan's house, the sideboard and TV from our house and horror of horrors the exact radiogram we had.
I've previously had to explain to him what those round bits of black vinyl are, the concept of the mix tape and recording the Top 20 off the radio.
