DH putting his foot in it with remark about my friend

My DH is a wonderful man but has a bit of a habit of inappropriate comments.

His latest ‘effort’ is a step too far and he has a sulk on for me pulling him up on it. So, I’d welcome the collective wisdom of MumsNet to reassure me that I’m right to say he has crossed a line…

My bestie has a new partner - she’s a lovely, caring lady but a self confessed chatter box. We all met up last night for dinner. On the way home, DH and I were discussing what we thought of her new man and both said he seemed really nice, but that he struggled to get much of a word in sat next to my friend.

DH said ‘do you know what I would do to shut her up?’, I obviously said - go on…

His reply - ‘stick my cock in her mouth’

Totally inappropriate regarding a friend IMO, and I told him as much. He has mentioned it to me this evening and thought I should have laughed it off, and is sulking because I’ve stuck to my initial stance.

Am I becoming prudish or was that a shitty comment?

@LilacReader certainly wouldn't be boasting that I thought that 'joke' was hilarious. But then I am dealing with female staff that have to put with crap comments like that on a regular basis. Hope you don't have sons who you encourage to make 'jokes' like that.

...and another. I have never 'encouraged' anyone to make that comment as I didnt this time. Put whatever spin on my comment you like :)

AgentJohnson · 02/05/2025 16:04

You appear to have got into the bad habit in excusing his bs! If this is how he talks about somebody he respects, I dread to think what he would say to someone he disliked.

He sounds absolutely vile, aggressive sexual comments about women are never funny, The line between the above behaviour and humour isn’t as thin as you think it is.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 02/05/2025 16:09

Imagine if you replied…
Well I would rather have her boyfriend’s bits in my mouth than yours!
Grim. I would feel sick.

crumblingschools · 02/05/2025 16:13

@LilacReader so do you think female staff should just put up with comments like that or otherwise be labelled perpetually offended? If the DH had made a racist rather than misogynistic comment would that be hilarious too?

LilacReader · 02/05/2025 16:17

Can we just finish this stupid petty back and forth! This was a private comment between husband to his wife - this was not to his staff. And I would say can you show me where I've said staff should put up with this but I can't be bothered with you anymore and am going home to my lovely family of 3 sons xxx

Are my friend and I (both female) the only ones who thought this hilarious?! He obviously doesn't mean it and it was a joke.

Yes.

He may not mean it but why would he be thinking about doing that in the first place? Why would that be his go-to thought with all the things he could say or keep to himself?

Makes you wonder what other thoughts about OP’s friend he has if he is going that route. Wonder if he would find it amusing if OP said the same thing about one of his friends. Doubtful.

LoveIndubitably · 02/05/2025 16:33

I genuinely don't understand how the thought of anyone being raped is 'hilarious'.

Don't say it's 'because it's a thing that wouldn't happen' because I bet there are plenty of things 'that wouldn't happen' that you'd be horrified to hear a man suggest. So that's not the reason.

BusyExpert · 02/05/2025 23:06

please keep your moralising to yourself, I cannot believe how people here over react. you must have very little going on in your life to be shock4ed by this

You're posting to tell other people not to post because you don't like what they're saying?

You do see the glaring hypocrisy there, don't you?

Happysummerrain · 27/05/2025 01:18

You’re not being unreasonable. It’s weird that his mind went there and even weirder that he said to his wife!

To clarify the ‘squash’ comment wasn’t about this friend, he always get along with and respects her. He just went a step too far last night.

Oh well thank god you squashed that.. wait.. he’s that gross about all your pals? Oh phew, we thought it was just the one…

ByTicklishGreenEagle · 27/05/2025 17:16

Oh dear....sounds like something my dear parter would say? Never out loud in front of people, just in front of me?
Rude.....

RockingOverTheWorld · 25/04/2025 21:51

Not as inappropriate, more along the lines of ‘doesn’t she squash him if they have sex’ sort of stuff that would just get an eye roll.

Yeah he sounds delightful OP!! 😂

hattie43 · 29/05/2025 18:04

Gross

tartyflette · 29/05/2025 18:23

Rapey, much?
I'd be appalled if my DH said that about anyone, never mind a friend.

nam3c4ang3 · 29/05/2025 21:56

Wtf is wrong with your husband gross.
