To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

bootcamp: the most sane approach to the thorny issue of health living. Simple explained with wonderfully supportive posters. To say it transformed my life would be understating the case.

A third of my body weight melted away, no deprivation, no hunger. Everything is different without the daily even hourly struggle of what and how much to eat. No more binging. Brilliant.

Yes! I discovered this recently. Use an eraser (any cheap one you’d use to rub out pencil). Took a few goes but got rid of a sticky residue I couldn’t shift for months.

Lakeland make a product called ‘non-sticky sticky stuff’ and it’s magic for what you are asking.

Please explain. Please.

@MakeaSwiftyExit

there is a ‘topic’ on Mumsnet called low carb Bootcamp. Very warm and supportive space.

have a look at some of the past threads, the first post usually includes a link to a ‘spreadsheet of fabulousness’ setting out the ‘rules’ and lists of resources.

you are always welcome to post in the latest thread, where chat continues and get going. @ mention me if you like, there are many much more experienced than I am and plenty of expertise to get you started. The spreadsheet includes links to books too, if you like me like some scientific background.

km on the app herd so can’t work out how to do links. Let me know if you can’t immediately find the threads.

all the best. DM me if you have any questions you prefer to keep quiet.

When I was in the trenches with a baby and a toddler, some wise person on here said word to the effect of ‘if it’s not a problem now, don’t worry about it. If it becomes a problem, then you can take steps to change it’. It really helped me unclench about things like contact naps, Co-sleeping, schdules etc and just enjoy my kids a bit more.

It's definitely a thing! I asked my partner if he gets stabbing pains in the butt and he affirmed yes.
On a non bum note but still a pain in the arse, anyone find those double/triple glass oven doors a total nightmare to clean in between? Debris and food leaving horrible streaks? Particularly bloody Neff slide and hide, a total nightmare to disassemble/reassemble & often doesn't even go back according to many users. Neff want silly money to come out & do it. Well I'm working on a cunning plan to clean it without taking it apart. Stay tuned but so far so good. 👍

I have a Neff Hide and Slide, and I agree that it gets splashes between the glass. I usually call out an oven cleaner who does it for £60, including the hob and grill. It's well worth it to me.

Does he take the glass apart?

Yes, he does.

Looks horrible doesn't it. I've got some long thin microfiber cloths like long pouches that I secure round a yardstick and poke through the gap underneath and use dishwashing detergent & vinegar on them to rub the stains off. Stubborn ones get blasted with the steam cleaner then a dry microfiber pouch to clean off. I'm a tightwad😉

I was charged £80 (call out charge) for someone to put my hide and slide Neff oven door back on after I had cleaned it. He was there 5 mins. I spent 40 mins and couldn’t get it back on. When I expressed surprise at how quick he’d done it, he told me he gets lots of calls for this service. A real money spinner.

Wow! I hope you at least watched him do it for your £80.

It's ridiculously expensive and very tricky to do unless you have the knack. There is a u tube video on how to do it but it doesn't show the door mechanism or glass removal very well. Yes, it really is a money spinner. @Dizzly I'd want to film it for future reference.
@Nomdejeur It sounds like a Harry Potter character or spell.

Wgw1 · 22/05/2025 06:15

@CherryRipe1 I followed the you tube video, which looked like it was easy peasy but after 40 mins of struggling I gave up!

It's not a "money spinner". You can't expect anyone to go to your house and do something for you for less than that. If you'd been savvy you'd have got them to clean your oven at the same time.

Wgw1 · 22/05/2025 11:33

I was savvy enough to know he didn't clean ovens.

You weren't savvy enough to call someone who cleaned the oven and would have done both for (probably) less money :)

Savvy doesn't come into it. Anyone would clean the oven themselves before trying to re-assemble it. It's just one of life's annoyances.

I have been known to ask tradesmen (after they’ve explained something to me) to explain it again while I film them. They usually agree. Then several years later, I have to scroll through my videos to find the right one 😁.

I filmed the heating engineer refilling the boiler on the filling loop? after he serviced it. I now know how to top it up after bleeding the rads but was nervous initially, thought the boiler would explode! . Ditto turning water off/on outside or stopcock inside. Lefty loosey, Righty tighty.
