Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

A lot of people I know now think that a many health problems are caused by parasites. I am starting to think they may be right.
I'm glad it's sorted for you.

I can go on and on about how liberating this has been for me to discover. I have spent the last two years slathering myself with mosquito repellant thinking that the hives I was waking up with were being caused by some sort of insect (I don’t live in the UK) and it made no difference. Only to discover that even the timing of my bites and hives appearing were consistent with dermodex mites… they literally wake up and feed on your skin in the dark. I have not had a single itch / bite / hive on my face or neck since applying soolantra before I go to sleep.

Anyway in keeping with the topic… I would not have discovered any of this if it weren’t for MN.

Wow! That's fascinating,👍 I know two people with rosacea so will pass that tip on. I believe blepharitis is also caused by those demodex mites, I wonder if ivermectin works for those? Is it in tablet form or a lotion?

I don't believe Ivermectin is licensed for human use in The UK

Soolantra which is ivermectin in topical form and for human use is available in the UK.

Apologies, I had no idea.
I just remembered post Covid when some people were trying to get it licensed in tablet form.

I understand. I’m in South Africa but the advice I was given was from a UK person who had been prescribed by their GP in the UK.

No! I’ve done it for about a year now, no mould, no dampness.

I remember seeing flour mites once and it makes me feel sick just thinking about it. That flour wasn't even old and was stored correctly but obviously present on purchase.
Do you 'decant' flower into another container first or do you just freeze as is (in a plastic bag or similar)?

Great tip.

I had the same thing happen which is why I was chuffed to see the freezer tip on mumsnet.

I just put the bag of flour (in its paper bag) straight into a sandwich bag and stand it up in the freezer for a week. It doesn’t freeze, the flour just gets very cold. Then I take it out of the freezer, still in the plastic bag, and leave on the side to get to room temp. Then I put it in my cupboard, just as new. I have had my current bag of plain flour open for about two months now (only use it for white sauces and Yorkshire puddings) and the flour is perfect.

Reading a lot of the threads on here circa 6-7yrs back made me realise that it was actually ok to put in clear boundaries, stick to them, and look to LTB (at least "get ducks in a row"!)...even in a marriage (my upbringing was traditional: divorce was frowned on and you stayed married until death...unless your DH was beating you up). Reading PointyThings (I'm sure it was her - my brain is fried after a busy day at work!) thread about her alcoholic XH really resonated with me, and all the help/advice she got, helped me unpick my own feelings about how shit everything was...and gave me my confidence back. Before I was ground down, I wouldn't have put up with shit from anyone. The numerous threads I read, when I couldn't talk to anyone IRL really helped. Reading about Grey Rock, The Script, gas lighting, trauma bonding etc etc was literally life changing.

Robovacs!! I read about them here and then got one (and then another!). Game changers for me. They mop and vacuum my floors daily.

Storing bedlinen in a pillowcase.

I can't remember where I got this tip from but...similar to the tip about using gift bags for wrapping pressies. I started saving the drawstring gift bags that gifts from Amazon came wrapped in. I'm so lazy that I even saved the gift tags on them. I keep and re-use these for wrapping presents in. If I need to alter what is written on a gift tag, I just stick over a plain sticky label and write on it. Cannot tell you how much time/faff this saves!! I still keep wrapping paper at home, but only do this for when we give presents for other people.

FWIW, I didn't realise the sizing of my KS quilt wasn't quite square until I read it on this thread. Whoops! I've got a wool duvet (kingsize), which I've kept as it was bloody expensive (even though I've downsized my bed to a double). I thought I was going nuts when it didn't quite fit into the cover (kingsize). So thank you to whoever pointed that out! I'm tempted to get coverless duvets for the DCs, but I'll think about it

A ‘wood’ duvet!! 😂. Shouldn’t think that keeps you very warm! And the splinters!!! Ouch

ThatLoftyTraybake · 29/04/2025 19:32

You can buy soda crystals from Home Bargains probably cheaper than other places.

TicTac80 · 29/04/2025 20:18

@Ilikeadrink14 i thought I wrote wool, not wood 🤣

Crazy how debilitating a skin condition can be. I mentioned it earlier but someone on MN recommended soolantra (ivermectin) for my skin (adult acne, rosacea, chronic hives and itching) and it has literally transformed my life. I can’t believe that no dermatologist or doctor or aesthetician had even thought about dermodex mites being the cause before. Yet if you google it seems pretty common.

Edited

Same! It was ivermectin which sorted me, learned about it online rather than from the Dr.

Dita73 · 30/04/2025 09:32

Wasn’t exactly advice but I remember someone describing how they get a shooting pain up their bum and wondering what it was. I was intrigued as I’d had similar. It seems this is quite common among women and one of the users described it as “javelin arse”. It made me laugh but it’s also perfect as it’s just what it feels like! Turns out my daughters get it too and when it happens we all say we’ve had a touch of javelin arse! So whoever that was, thank you!

Can anyone suggest the best weight loss injections?

No, it's specific to you. Best to speak to a prescriber.

Some people will do best on Mounjaro, or Ozempic or AN Other medication.

Thank you! Now soaking in white vinegar before a wash! Will report back

GoodQueenBess · 01/05/2025 14:05

Salt and lemon juice , @TongueTwister1975 ,.

  1. Put salt on the dry stain, then cover it completely with lemon juice and salt.
  2. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes to 24 hours.
  3. Blot the stain with a clean white cloth.
  4. Hang the clothing to dry in the sun.

or do the same but using bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar instead of the salt and lemon juice.

I started tret recently from dermatica, and my skin is "sticky". Im using a good cleanser and moisturiser with SP50 in the am, and cleanser, the tret/niacinamide, followed by a gentle moisturiser at night, but my skin always feels tacky! Is this normal?

GoodQueenBess · 01/05/2025 19:03

@TongueTwister1975 , I haven't tried it, but just white vinegar doesn't work and neither does Elbow Grease spray.

TongueTwister1975 · 02/05/2025 07:57

I missed the lemon and salt stage so just did white vinegar and washing up liquid. Washed and out in the sun for hours yesterday.......it needs the lemon and salt. I know for next time! Thanks all!

Peeling ginger with a teaspoon, brilliant tip. Also hob boiling or microwaving potatoes in a rice cooker whole in their skins, halving and pressing through a one of those cooling rack grid things. Microwave the spud with milk, butter etc & mash, makes mashed potatoes easy without all the peeling faff. However, must get some frozen mash to try and what is Idaho mash? Is it available in the UK & is it like Smash or better?
Frozen peppers, onions, soffrito, berries. Great time & energy saving tip ,👍. Tried frozen avocados, hmmm even in a heavily dollied up guacamole there was a very weird chemically taste, almost like overripe bananas. Counter top dishwasher for my smallish kitchen.

Ah but if you peel your spuds, you can make lovely potato peel crisps in an air fryer!

CherryRipe1 · 08/05/2025 14:25

@Callipygion Very true! I've not made those before so need to give them a try.
