Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

Best advice/suggestion is to change my cat's food to a hairball variety, either Purina One or Royal Canin if they have chronic runny 💩. Sorry. Not sorry.

Cleaning and laundry.

I use them for:

Drains
Burnt pans
Floors
Paintwork
Softening water
Cleaning the washing machine
Tiles
Tea stains

There are two things I have learned: 1. "No is a complete sentence" and 2. Put some loo roll in the public toilet before you sit down so you don't get splashed.

Eww. No way. I like to at least give myself a fighting chance of avoiding norovirus, 😂

That’s exactly how I got norovirus this year from a 2yo. I wasn’t fast enough to get out of the firing line.

Quite recently someone posted about shampooing twice to extend time between hair washes, which I had previously thought was a ploy by shampoo manufacturers to make people use more. But now I wash my hair every three days rather than every two days and exercise more in the extra time!

Ah... Bit of you're washing it twice every 3 days, rather than once every 2 days...

Doesn't that mean in 6 days you're washing it 4 times instead of 3... ?

The one that sticks out for me is someone helpfully pointing out that if you have a king size or super king bed then the duvet goes ACROSS the bed horizontally, rather than vertically (if that makes sense).

I am ashamed to admit I've spent roughly 30 years with a superking bed, assuming that the stitching on the duvet ran from head to foot and grumbling that my duvet never fitted properly inside the cover.

Turning the duvet 90 degrees inside it's cover was life changing!

I have just done this - you are a genius! 🙌🙌🙌

Shampooing twice would not work for my hair.

I have very fine and soft hair and used to wash it every day. I now wash it every 3 days because I use very little shampoo. A drop on my hands and rub together. Second day I use only water (need to tame the hair!) and third day I condition only.

I always thought that hairdressers were going OTT with their 2 washes and stripping all the goodness out so I always used to ask for only one shampoo...still seems they were quite aggressive with shampooing.

Sorry if this has already been said (it’s a long thread!) but freezing your flour for a week before you put it in your cupboard. It’ll last ages with no chance of flour mites.

ladyofshertonabbas · 28/04/2025 16:07

I was directed to a niche rosacea advice group by someone on here- life changing.

Oh, I didn't know this, thanks! I too had a nasty incident once.

Crazy how debilitating a skin condition can be. I mentioned it earlier but someone on MN recommended soolantra (ivermectin) for my skin (adult acne, rosacea, chronic hives and itching) and it has literally transformed my life. I can’t believe that no dermatologist or doctor or aesthetician had even thought about dermodex mites being the cause before. Yet if you google it seems pretty common.

Doesn't it get damp in the freezer, and go mouldy when you defrost it?

Wow! That's fascinating,👍 I know two people with rosacea so will pass that tip on. I believe blepharitis is also caused by those demodex mites, I wonder if ivermectin works for those? Is it in tablet form or a lotion?

I’m in South Africa so not sure what is available to you. But my GP gave me two tablet form ivermectin 12.5mg I think. Ie one month for two months. And then I apply soolantra nightly and I need to do that for 4 months.

dermodex mites have a 3 week life cycle and ivermectin is only affective on the mites not their eggs.

Soolantra / ivermectin is definitely a remedy for Blepharitis

No! I’ve done it for about a year now, no mould, no dampness.

Thank you, that's interesting, horrible things aren't they (shudder). I'll have a scout round to see what's available for my eyes & the rosacea sufferers can check their options. I'm not sure if we can get ivermectin via our National Health Service. I know someone who is a conspiracy theorist who gets it from a vet suppliers, for what I don't know, maybe a panacea.

Soolantra should definitely be available in the UK.

It's not a massive lawn. The wee robot just trundles round randomly chopping a cm or whatever of the top. It works on same principle as the robot vacuum where it goes over and over the same area over quite a long period. You don't collect the cuttings they stay on the grass.

I’ve just spent a very pleasant few hours sitting in garden reading my book while wee robot does his thing!

It definitely is and you can get a private prescription via an online pharmacy if NHS GP is an issue.

A tip from me:
If you remove the wet your hair before applying conditioner you need less and the conditioner comes in better contact with each strand.

Particularly helpful if you use expensive conditioner!

A lot of people I know now think that a many health problems are caused by parasites. I am starting to think they may be right.
I'm glad it's sorted for you.
