To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

ChatGPT, is brilliant for holiday itineraries

And also for meal plans. Tell it how many days, any dietary requirements or preferences, and what sort of thing you want (e.g., family meals, low fat, quick and easy, impressive, etc) and it'll suggest a menu.

@MounjaroOnMyMind well done on the weight loss! I have also lost a (non dramatic) amount of weight recently, just through drinking less alcohol and eating home cooked meals. Annoying when the advice that you discounted 20 years ago turns out to have been correct!

@Flytrap01 I think the more you know about a subject the more you realise Chat GPT doesn't know yet. Every time I make a suggestion, it agrees with me and changes its mind. So MN users haven't been made redundant yet - famously difficult to get an entrenched MNetter to change their mind!

but it has the advantage in one way in that like the borg from startrek it can use many sources at once, where as with the average user its only one type of info they have etc

CoverMeInMarmalade · 22/04/2025 16:27

They have aready been mentioned but Mounjaro and Tret for me too. Both have had such a significant impact on my self esteem and, in the case of MJ, my health.

SpikySausage · 22/04/2025 16:31

I think my next mumsnet rabbit hole will be the menopause. Maybe mounjaro after that if the menopause causes any weight gain!

But first, I need to stop procrastinating on choosing/starting the collagen supplements mumsnetters are sure I need.

Don’t put it down, put it away. Best advice ever for a tidy home

DecafDodger · 22/04/2025 16:32

2 duvets instead of superking - so much easier to change and tortilla-sleeping partner does not leave the other one without.

Relationships board, I agree, would have been invaluable when I was younger. They all would have told me that the 'love of my life' was an abusive narcissist.

The one that sticks out for me is someone helpfully pointing out that if you have a king size or super king bed then the duvet goes ACROSS the bed horizontally, rather than vertically (if that makes sense).

I am ashamed to admit I've spent roughly 30 years with a superking bed, assuming that the stitching on the duvet ran from head to foot and grumbling that my duvet never fitted properly inside the cover.

Turning the duvet 90 degrees inside it's cover was life changing!

I never knew this. I’m going upstairs right now to try this out! Thanks!

Ineedanewsofa · 22/04/2025 16:33

Pensions! MN has encouraged me to get much more to grips with understanding my pension(s) and ensuring I’m saving for the future I want.

I've tried tret but couldn't see much difference, what did it do for you?

Not to be scared of investing or think it is only for wealthy people and to go ahead and open a Stocks and Shares ISA. Five years on it's been a great decision for my long term savings.

Use my quick spray mop to clean kitchen cupboards and bathroom tiles really quickly and easily. Just spray, mop the tiled walls/cabinets and then put the cloth in the wash. I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier!

I think Claude is better than chatgpt, especially getting the tone of your requests.

Maybe they're all the same really but I find I get on with Claude better! We get into good chats about the meaning of life 😂

i tryed better ways to control society to prevent people being criminals chat via chatgpt and it kept trying to offer different spins on why people are the way they are

Needhelp101 · 22/04/2025 16:53

Great idea for a thread!

My children were too old for me (and them!) to have personally benefited from some one pointing out that baby vests and baby gros can be stretched over the baby's shoulders downwards in the event of a poonami. But I past this onto to a young friend who has just had a baby and she was very grateful.

murasaki · 22/04/2025 17:04

I'm not on mounjaro but a friend has just started. We were on a day out and she mentioned it so I told her about the golden dose, which I'd learned about from here. She immediately phoned her DP to rescue the syringe out of the sharps bin as she didn't know anything about it, and was very grateful.

Mummyratbag · 22/04/2025 17:07

That you don't need to attend every argument you are invited to.

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 22/04/2025 17:09

To take a heated blanket camping- not much of a camper myself but I thought it was a genius idea and share it with anyone I know going camping!

murasaki · 22/04/2025 17:10

That grouting pens are amazing for quickly making your bathroom look better and are very therapeutic to apply. It's a very zen experience with pleasing visual results. And lasts quite a long time.

Thank you!!

And do the poppers on the cover run along the bottom?

Did it work?

DecafDodger · 22/04/2025 17:16

@murasaki you mean the pen, not needle? If the latter, tell her also to get extra needles or an insuline syringe and not re-use the used ones fished out of the bin.

Picklepower · 22/04/2025 17:17

murasaki · 22/04/2025 16:05

Those pins to keep a king sized duvet in place inside the cover.

To use a spoon not a knife to remove avocado stones and also the flesh from the skin rather than trying to peel it. Saved me from many middle class injuries since I found that one as I am clumsy and on blood thinners.

I have never come across anyone trying to peel an avocado 😂

Mumberjack · 22/04/2025 17:17

Sure it was years ago but OHIO - only handle it once.
saves from just shifting piles of stuff around the house. If it’s in your hands, put it where it’s meant to go.
