To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

@Callipygion that sounds a great idea! How long would you put them in for?

Depends how many you’ve got and how thick the peel is. I haven’t done for a while as I’m on baked potatoes binge at the moment, so skins on! But I don’t throw peels away now. think it was around 10 mins first then check to see if they’re crispy enough, if not a few more mins and check again.

Mumsnet made me buy a dehumidifier and it changed my life.

I wouldn't be without mine

I am now well on way with Mounjaro and booked lens replacement surgery for July. I am planning to go to 2 days a week in work as soon as possible. And i will focus on making myself the best I can be.

This place is great for ideas :-)

PaintDecisions · 08/05/2025 18:28

@IBelieveinSomething make sure to speak to your surgical team - they often ask you to stop Mounjaro for two weeks before surgery but I don't know if that's the same for your op.

I need to take my own advice and contact the hospital - I'm on a list for colorectal surgery, but I'm now 5 stone lighter than when they last saw me and there's no way the stockings they measured me up for will fit now!

The one that sticks out for me is someone helpfully pointing out that if you have a king size or super king bed then the duvet goes ACROSS the bed horizontally, rather than vertically (if that makes sense).

I am ashamed to admit I've spent roughly 30 years with a superking bed, assuming that the stitching on the duvet ran from head to foot and grumbling that my duvet never fitted properly inside the cover.

Turning the duvet 90 degrees inside it's cover was life changing!

Pardon? Surely you have to fit the duvet into the cover the way it fits?

AffIt · 08/05/2025 18:34

Illegally18 · 08/05/2025 18:17

what does it do?

Dries washing like magic.

I live in a big old slightly damp house in the west of Scotland, which is obviously primarily dark and wet, and drying washing in the winter was a nightmare.

Solution: buy dehumidifier, hang washing on clothes horse in the smallest room in your house, make sure all the doors and windows are closed, turn on dehumidifier overnight when it's cheap (you could turn the radiator on for extra oomph, but I am too tight-fisted to have the heating on overnight) and BOOM! Dry laundry and no damp rooms.

I bought a fancy Meaco one for about £150 because I am a gadget hound, but cheaper ones are available.

Noo please don't start this up again- it went on for most the thread! The answer lies within it

King size duvet measures 230 x 220.

230cm horizontal across the bed. 220cm from pillows to foot.

It's very easy to put the 230 long side of the duvet in top to bottom instead of the 220cm side. If you turn the duvet inside the cover so the longest side is sideways, it will stop that annoying gap at the top where you have duvet cover and no duvet.

Does anyone have any tips for removing leftover sticky residue (from labels) off plastic please? 🤞🏼

Yes! I discovered this recently. Use an eraser (any cheap one you’d use to rub out pencil). Took a few goes but got rid of a sticky residue I couldn’t shift for months.

There was a suncream stain removal tip here the other day but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone help please?!

It was to soak in a mix of warm water, washing up liquid and white vinegar I think!

You can also use the sticky side of the label to peel off the remaining bits.

Dab the sticky side on the bits stuck to the plastic and it should come off.

I just use a little warm water & dish soap

Use a rubber to remove tarnish from silver - great for small pieces.

Wasn’t exactly advice but I remember someone describing how they get a shooting pain up their bum and wondering what it was. I was intrigued as I’d had similar. It seems this is quite common among women and one of the users described it as “javelin arse”. It made me laugh but it’s also perfect as it’s just what it feels like! Turns out my daughters get it too and when it happens we all say we’ve had a touch of javelin arse! So whoever that was, thank you!

I’ve had javelin arse!! Thought it was just me till I read your post!

It's definitely a thing! I asked my partner if he gets stabbing pains in the butt and he affirmed yes.
On a non bum note but still a pain in the arse, anyone find those double/triple glass oven doors a total nightmare to clean in between? Debris and food leaving horrible streaks? Particularly bloody Neff slide and hide, a total nightmare to disassemble/reassemble & often doesn't even go back according to many users. Neff want silly money to come out & do it. Well I'm working on a cunning plan to clean it without taking it apart. Stay tuned but so far so good. 👍

Get a cordless screwdriver and unscrew the glass.

I wish! With the Neff slide n hide it doesn't have screws unlike alot of ovens, you have to take the door off by some very complicated mechanism then an even more complicated clip system to take the glass doors apart. Whilst the pyrolytic system is good the door cleaning is rubbish. Anyway, have cleaned most of it now & bringing in the heavy guns for the final stubborn bits.

what does it do?

My bungalow had horrendous mould in cold weather but using the dehumidifier helps, I have a small one in my pantry as the walls get very wet and my sons bedroom wall does too so I have a large one in the hallway outside his room and they run 24/7 unless it's warm weather and we have doors and windows open

I once removed the glass from my oven to clean it, I misjudged putting it back and it shattered

That's a shame. I've been doing it for years and never had a problem.

Please Tell me more about the hysterical bonding, I’ve never heard of it.

I've read up to page 14 and no one has answered you so I will. It's often when a spouse has been cheated on and they crave sex with the cheater. It's a really unexpected and uncomfortable situation which doesn't always happen. I assume. It's like you don't have a choice, it's not necessarily a conscious choice.

Did it work?

A bit of a delayed response but I can confirm it very much did work and it has been a revelation. No more waking up with just the part of the duvet cover with no duvet inside it covering me!
