To think I can't be the only person who doesn't know a single trans person

VioletSpeedwell · 17/04/2025 22:58

Seriously.

The news is full of people worrying about how the SC ruling will affect people who identify as trans.

Where are they? Not in my office (large organisation), my family or social groups. I don't come across any in the village where I live or when I go into town.

DD is at university and doesn't know any trans people.

Surely, I can't be the only one?

They might pass with men, but less chance with women.

That's cos we are hard wired to spot a man.

How do you know? Unless you see them naked, you can't tell with a lot of people.

Rubbish.

Freysimo · 20/04/2025 17:27

I worked with a trans women, very nice quiet person and not showy at all, but definitely looked like a bloke in a skirt.

So what you are saying is that they NEED make up to look like women? Real women don’t, even if some women choose to wear it.

I think the makeup is to mask the beard growth, eyebrows etc - the contouring makeup method that was the craze a few years ago was pioneered or at least adopted years earlier by ‘drag queens’- they know what they are doing and some are highly skilled.

Regarding the women always looking like women regardless, is that what you’re saying? - I disagree. I know of several women, some lesbians, some just not into makeup, who could easily pass for men - a couple even sound like men. Some men, particularly young men with long hair, could also pass as women visually, without makeup.

Annascaul · 20/04/2025 21:29

Women not wearing makeup look like men. Men with long hair look like women…

The hey look like what they are, men in drag. That isn’t what women look like.

I believe Cheryl Hole identifies as a man when not dressed as a woman and although he makes himself up dramatically when performing, I’ve also seen him looking like a typical young woman dolled up for a night on the town when he tones it down - his own sister, who taught her how to do her make up (perhaps this is why it looks more natural/believable) says he’s better looking as a woman than her!

Vanishingly few. If any…

Admittedly few in my own experience, but I was raised in a village and am friends with other ppl from villages - not exactly cosmopolitan living so it is interesting - but I am friends with and have met and know of several women (who aren’t known to each other) who would pass as men, and I’m not the only person to think so.

Some of them WANT to look like men, some aren’t bothered about makeup or long hair or feminine clothing and could still pass for a young man until they open their mouths. That’s a fact, it’s my experience. I’m not saying it’s the majority either way.

They can use makeup all they like but it doesn't address stature, gait, hips, pelvic angle, Adam's apple, size of hands and feet, shoulders.....

Apparently a wonderful woman though.

Endlessstuff · 21/04/2025 05:43

you can surgically have it made less noticeable apparently and have your face structure feminized

JohnSt1 · 21/04/2025 05:53

I don't have any trans-women friends, but I know three trans-men.

CalicoPusscat · 21/04/2025 06:17

I know one, he was more senior than me at work but not my line manager. I'm sorry but I still use the incorrect pronoun as I didn't see them after transition as I had already left, it was quite some time ago.

It threw the organisation a bit so they sent around an email saying to show respect. Quite a while ago now. I didn't have an inkling she felt trapped in a male body.

The rank misogyny on display from you here is grim. You’re completely captured and don’t even know it. Or you do, and you simply don’t care.

A small village apparently, where there appear to be more trans people than in London if they are to be believed 🙄

Indeed - because this person clearly thinks you have to be pretty and feminine to ‘look like a woman’ so butch or ‘less pretty’ lesbians don’t rate next to highly made up and possibly surgically enhanced males? Not only captured and misogynistic but also homophobic!!

VioletSpeedwell · 21/04/2025 09:20

Dolled up? Lol.

So he gets kicks pretending to be a woman and then goes back to being a man when he fancies that?

It's obvious.

Even with surgery & hormones, it's obvious.

Passing is a myth.

I wound suggest your perception/observation is flawed, rather than that they truly pass as the opposite sex.

I've seen one person whose sex I couldn't determine with certainty - in decades, across 4 continents.

Kids can tell pretty much instantly.

Would love to see photos of these young men ....I think pretty much everyone but you would think they were obviously young men.

Most drag queens have tongue-in-cheek stage names that are often sexual. She based her act around Cheryl Cole so it was a play on her name. Cheryl Cole has met her and thoroughly approved. Men have holes too incidentally.
