To think I can't be the only person who doesn't know a single trans person

VioletSpeedwell · 17/04/2025 22:58

Seriously.

The news is full of people worrying about how the SC ruling will affect people who identify as trans.

Where are they? Not in my office (large organisation), my family or social groups. I don't come across any in the village where I live or when I go into town.

DD is at university and doesn't know any trans people.

Surely, I can't be the only one?

I have taught numerous secondary age students who are transgender .

I’m amazed how many people are convinced that they can spot every trans person a mile off. 😂

Well, obviously nobody spots anyone they don't spot.

People are mentioning the people they do know to be trans, or who are in the opposite sex facilities, not trying to test everyone they see.

Mostly I know people are trans because I or my kids knew them before transition; or they fathered kids and now go by Rachel; or they may not be trans but are definitely a male with a female name, or a male in the wrong loo, for their own reasons.

Unless they have had an entire skeleton transplant, they yes, it's not hard to notice from a few metres away.

Most British men are no Ladyboys of Bangkok - they don't remotely pass. And most trans men look like tom boys. It is to do with gait and stature, which no amount of hormones or surgery, dress or make up, can change.

No. You taught children who were going through a phase, are autistic or have mental health issues.

I hope you weren't forced to indulge them?

Do you know these teenagers? You have no idea if it’s a phase and who are you to diagnose?!

And here we have it, angrily lashing out because a woman so far above them in intellect simply won’t comply.

It’s actually quite tiresome now because it’s not even original, we’ve heard it all before, it’s water off a duck’s back, transphobe, bigot, terf, blah blah blah.

The law says no, deal with it.

VioletSpeedwell · 19/04/2025 15:13

I've got a 20 year old DD.

I'm not diagnosing. I'm stating a fact. You cannot be a trans child.

very arrogant comment. you haven't met every single trans person in the world to make a judgement on how convincingly they pass or not!

what's more likely, that the multiple people on this thread who didn't realise a person they knew was trans until they told them have significant vision and/or comprehension problems, or that a proportion of people who have in many cases taken specific medication and had significant cosmetic procedures in order to look as convincing as possible as their identified sex, then look convincing as their identified sex?

Biological non-trans women are sometimes misidentified as male just because they are tall with short hair (or short and "boyish" looking), so why is it so incomprehensible than people who have put a lot of time and effort into doing so pass well enough?

With trans men in particular, if someone is as tall/taller than the average woman, with a flat chest, deep voice and beard, they can look pretty damn manly!

Waterlilysunset · 19/04/2025 15:35

I definitely think I’ve spotted every trans woman I’ve come across. Passing is impossible. My husband doesn’t have the same radar. But as a woman, I know what women are like. It’s the big hands, the jaw bone. The way they carry themselves, whole body shape - even if you have breasts it doesn’t make a female form

I don't know why you are so amazed.

Men and women are physically very different in ways that no amount of surgery or hormone treatment can change. There are many giveaways, regardless of how well trans people think they pass.

I personally know nine trans people aged between 14 and 60 at various stages of transition. None of them pass more than the most fleeting contact when you see them in real life.

At least two of them (women who want to be men) have gone the whole hog, testosterone, bilateral mastectomy and prosthetic willy.

Their fluffy lady beards and receding hairline (in one case), indicate that they want you to think they are men, but the feminine hips, gait, feminine fat distribution, dainty hands and high-pitched voices quickly give them away.

I suppose it's possible I might have passed a bloke in the street and thought he was a woman, or glimpsed a woman on the other side of a large room and been fooled by her lady beard, but no one I know has ever got close to passing.

Based on the fact that the trans people I actually know are so far from passing, I am 99.9% confident I have never been fooled by a trans person I've had more than the briefest interaction with.

For the 500th time, it's about MALES. Nothing remotely to do with 'trans' people of either sex. And yes, feminists, including rape survivor like me are 'obsessed' with defending our hard-won sex-based rights and spaces. So take the dickpandering and hateful misogyny elsewhere, thank you

Here’s the next part of the playbook, making false statements such as ‘vilifying trans people’ 🙄 surely if I have done that you would be able to report my posts, but as the law has now clarified, biological reality is real, and stating that publicly is not a witch burning offence.

Please come up with something original next time, your playbook is really well thumbed and could do with updating.

NebulousWhistler · 19/04/2025 21:37

I don’t either. But I’ve played against a couple in my sport a few times. I also work among many Gen Zee’s and none of them are.
None of the kids in my daughter’s prep school are, nor on any of her many extra curricular activities.
Where are they all?
