CIS

Just read an article about the Supreme Court judgement today. It repeatedly refers to Cis women. I get so unbelievably annoyed by that term.

I am not a ‘Cis’ woman. I just hate the term. If you want to be a trans woman, fine. That’s what you are. Don’t make me the other side of your imaginary coin. Don’t make me call myself something I’m not. Don’t make me part of your ‘We’re all just at various points on the woman spectrum’ nonsense.

There are women. And there are trans women. Two entirely different things.

YANBU, I hate this term. Just as I don't get to tell you what labels to call yourself, you don't get to tell me.

I think then the would simply say that you were born a female and you are a woman because you feel that you are a woman. And probably only say this if that was offered up by yourself. It's more of a philosophical question of you being you. I think therefore I am.

I don’t feel that I am a woman but I know in.i don’t know what “feeling” like a woman is.

If it’s apparent violence to enforce the “wrong” identity on trans people ain’t it violence to use “cis” for women who are just women?

You do know what the feeling of being a woman is because that is the feeling you have. If you didn't know what the feeling of being a woman was you wouldn't be conscious.

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/04/2025 10:47

Being” something is quite literally a part of a person’s identity. It’s how you would describe yourself and how others would describe you. It’s quite sad to get so hung up on this. You’re a cisgender woman. Get over it.

I’m a woman, my biology makes me a woman. No need for any qualifier or further description.

I just refuse to use the word cis if at all possible. Or any of the TRA lingo. I have lost track of how many gender identities there are. I'm too old and ND to pander to all this crap . I don't even bother with preferred pronouns. I just use they/them or their name. They can't be offended by that. Not my circus not my monkeys.

I just attended awareness training at work and apparently using they/them instead of stated preferred pronouns is offensive too.

This was from a very obvious young woman pretending to be a man. The small group discussions were painful, mixture of full woke and completely oblivious, I seemed to be the only gender critical person there and tried to raise issues without getting fired.

I dread to think how much my work place is paying for this training. They have moved on from Stonewall to a private company which might be worse.

You won't get the job with a cover letter like that I don't think. Did you do DoE award ?

I know how I feel, I don’t know that my feelings are representative or consistent with how other women feel. There’s no one “feeling of being a woman” consistent across the whole sex class.

No, I don’t have feelings of being a woman. I KNOW I am because I have eyes and can see my body parts. Biology is where my knowledge I am a woman begins and ends.

Can you tell me what feeling like a woman is like please?

And where do you eyes send signals via your optic nerve to ?

It’s a good thing that I’m not applying for a job then, because being a woman isn’t a job, or a role to be played or a costume to be worn.

Bogginsthe3rd · 17/04/2025 10:50

What does feeling like a woman mean?

I don’t feel like anything. I AM a woman. The same way a dog is a dog, because it is not because it feels, and a grasshopper is a grasshopper. The only factor which I “identify” with is my body.

How do men “feel like women” and how does that make them women?

How do you know that I feel the same as you though? I'm a mixture of likes/dislikes, thoughts and feelings which are probably unique to me. I love cheese and jam sandwiches, my DH hates them so is a love of cheese and jam sandwiches what makes me a woman? Or perhaps it's my love of football? DH and Ds hate football, DD and I love it so is that what makes us identify as female?
I identify as me not as a woman or as a human or as fan of cake. These are things I just am

Because the feelings you have are innately you. But you can describe them as you have and cannot separate yourself from them. Therefore your feelings are part of you and those feelings are those of a woman by definition. You identify as being a woman.

So you are translating the word woman to be subsitute word for human.
Can you explain what "cisgender" means if applied to humans or even other animal specie eg an elephant.
Define what puts one human into your classification but not other humans or one elephant your classification but not other elephants?

No I don't. Not in the way a man may identify as a woman. He is male, he has thoughts and feelings so they are male thoughts and feelings because they are being had by a male. But some men claim their feelings are women's feelings. So what are these feelings? The women's ones that most women and a handful of men have. This separate to being a woman feeling that one can have regardless of one's sex?

Thankfully the judgment itself does not use this absurd term.

What does cis stand for

It is supposed to mean ‘someone with a gender identity that matches their assigned sex at birth’

EasternStandard · 17/04/2025 11:02

We don’t need ‘cis’ we don’t even need the term ‘biological woman’ anymore.

Woman is only that, how great is that ruling

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/04/2025 11:03

Bogginsthe3rd · 16/04/2025 23:45

I guess if you were born a woman and you are a woman you are a cis woman. It's a just a term which you don't have to use if you don't want.

It's a term which you should only use about other people if you know that they consent to being referred to in this way.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/04/2025 11:08

Bogginsthe3rd · 17/04/2025 00:28

Yes I can understand that. My feeling is that a man who was born male but now identifies as behind a woman is called a trans man rather than just a man or cis man, no?

I haven't RTFT and assume you have been corrected about this by multiple people by now.

But you've just perfectly illustrated the problem with adopting all this confusing terminology.

Who knows how many women, when saying that they're OK with trans women using women's spaces, think they're talking about women who identify as men rather than men who identify as women?

The term "trans man" refers to a woman who wishes to live and be referred to as though she were a man.
