What threads do you always hide?

If any!

If I scroll through and see anyone ask about accountancy help, HMRC advice, tax return, accounts etc I just hide them. I can't stand seeing 90% of the "advice" on those threads being absolute bollocks.

I used to hide the divorce ones when I was going through mine, I didn't want extra headspace going into it.

I avoid threads about serious health problems or death, because they stress me out, but I rarely hide them, because I mostly read on my laptop, and I don't think it's possible to hide a thread without first opening it. (If there's a way to hide without opening, I'd be more likely to hide them.)

TaxAdvisor · 15/04/2025 05:52

I'm exactly the same with any questions relating to tax, inheritance, probate etc! The advice given by other posters is absolute bullshit and it really winds me up. Also, I spend all day advising people on these matters and it's the last thing I want to think about in my downtime.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 15/04/2025 06:46

Tv prorammes in aibu

zaxxon · 15/04/2025 06:56

Ditto the royal family, FWR trans topics, weight loss jabs, MAFS, K-drama and pregnancy threads.

Also the thinly disguised political propaganda, which reads as if it was planted by a junior party worker. "AIBU to suspect that Starmer is becoming [mildly libellous accusation]?"

Lundier · 15/04/2025 07:00

Lol the politics bots are so rigid and obvious. They always post in AIBU and they've always got a little set of nicknames for the politicians. They never say their actual name - what is that about? It's the most obvious giveaway they are scripted. Yeah I hide those too.

Lundier · 15/04/2025 07:06

@afig You can hide them on Active Conversations on the laptop/ website by pressing the minus sign.

You can't hide them on Your Feed - then you have to go into the thread to hide or to Hidden Threads and block the topic.

Babies names!
Line eyes or anything TTC
Weight loss jabs
Anything reality TV
Ones where OP fancies themselves as a creative writer and has produced some fantastical nonsense that is later found to be false or post bait and is taken down.

mepipesneedlagging · 15/04/2025 07:21

calanaiscailleach · 13/04/2025 17:09

Anything with references to animal abuse/neglect.

Yes, this. Immediate hide and I wish I could do the same on 'news' sites before I have seen the full details without warning (looking at you, Daily Fail)

Also, the weird chatty ones that say: 'The one where..'
.. Followed by 200 posters all thanking the OP for starting a new thread.
What's that all about 🤨
Thankfully I've learned to recognise them now.

EffortlesslyInelegant · 15/04/2025 07:49

The tedious new trend of 'To think that...' threads. They're almost always about some mundane bollocks that everybody already knows or does and the OP never returns. I hide them. Every single one of them. Grin

Odd. I don’t get that option at all. Annoying!

Oooh I found it. Time to hide the Trans threads!

Edited

😪 but we need more voices like yours

getahhtmapub · 15/04/2025 08:53

Yes to the cringy cliquey ‘uber hilare’ in joke threads that are on thread eleventy million.

All the boring AF pregnancy ones;
Baby names
Am I pregnant (including customary picture of a pregnancy test with obviously one line with loads of responses saying ‘I can see it!!! Congrats hun!!’)
Guess the gender (sex) of my baby
‘Potty shot’ Envy gender (sex) guesses

The “but what you’re saying is….” <followed by something I have not said> or the refusal to accept that their view of something is not everybody’s view of something becomes tedious.

I have no issue with different views but people incapable of following the logic of a discussion do my head in! Hiding brings me peace 😊

FarmGirl78 · 14/04/2025 20:32

Gender/sex/trans bashing ones. I'm a straight female. The hatred and narrow mindedness is stunning. I feel sick that people can be so pre-judging and bigoted.

If you can muster up at least one example to back this up I’ll change sex myself.

Yes totally fair enough. I’ve just hidden my first thread and it felt great :).

JHound · 15/04/2025 22:07

I wish there was an option to hide posters too.

Reading this thread is so refreshing. Now I know why those boards are only populated by bonkers people, because all the sane ones have hidden them 😆

Yes - that now explains the tone of posts on the Trans posts. Everybody reasonable has them hidden!

Or barely anybody agrees with you! 🤔

I don’t hide these boards (I didn’t know it was an option) but I also avoid them. The posters are obsessed and bonkers - entering those boards is like stepping through a mirror into a crazed alternative universe.

entering those boards is like stepping through a mirror into a crazed alternative universe.

I know, right? There are posters on there who think that people can magically change sex!

Exactly! It’s not just the Romans who are pazzi….

Exactly. I have absolutely no interest in Meghan. I imagine that if I met her, I wouldn't really like her. However, the hate that surrounds her is absolutely insane. It's completely unhinged and off the scale. People (primarily women) seem to get so much pleasure in tearing her to pieces. I just don't understand it.

I think Meghan Derangement Syndrome needs to be a recognised psychiatric disorder.
The unhinged hatred for her for ….well I am not sure what she has done to earn this level of vitriol.

It’s baffling!

fiorenza · 15/04/2025 22:25

The people who have it hidden don’t have a coherent, intelligent argument in them (apart from waaah you’re all anti trans!).

That's a leap. I have them hidden as I have nothing useful to add, and see no value for me in reading these threads.

Ahhh. You're not keen on reason and basic biological fact? My previous post refers!
