To back out of weekend away

Calmdownandcarryon · 12/04/2025 09:11

A friend is organizing a weekend away for a group of us, we're staying in an air b n b which is all fine however ive just checked the listing and there are not enough beds for us all to go. She's said about sleeping on the sofa or 3 of us sharing one of the beds, I really dont like this idea especially as she expects us all to pay the same. Everyone will be sharing double beds but even so someone will be on the sofa yet all paying the same, am i wrong to back out of going?

OP posts:

“I’ve had a think about the sleeping arrangements you’ve proposed for the trip, and it really doesn’t work for me, so unless we can change it, I’ll have to drop out. Let me know if changing is an option.”

I wouldn't expect to have to say my "needs" were not sharing a bed with two other people - however, for any future trips with friends, I'll be sure to say that up front.

haha this- who in their right minds would think 3 adult people sharing a bed is ok?

It's so ridiculous I can hardly believe it. Do I also have to specify that I would like a toilet and dont wish to walk 50m to a wooded area for a wee?

Lascivious · 13/04/2025 19:43

Sounds like a nightmare. Sod that.

Northernladdette · 13/04/2025 19:49

Are you drawing straws for the sofa? 😣

Bowies · 13/04/2025 19:51

YANBU to back out when the accommodation booked is totally unsuitable for the the number of guests, plus it leaves more room for the others.

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/04/2025 19:52

Ooft, that’s a no from me. I’m way past sharing rooms let along beds with friends, or paying good money to sleep on a sofa come to that! Generally I expect the appropriate number of beds to people (ie one each..) as a basic rule..

@rosehipstalk next you'll be saying you expect the accommodation to be like inside with a roof .... diva much?!! 😄

crockofshite · 13/04/2025 19:54

Go online and find a viable alternative that accommodates everyone in their own bed (is room share and option?), then respond to everyone in the group with the details suggesting it as an option.

BigHeadBertha · 13/04/2025 19:57

Without knowing any of these people, we don't know what's reasonable or not to any of them, though.

For ex., what the friend has organized would have been perfect for my group when we were in our early twenties. We always had roommates and crashed on each other's couches anyway, and money was tight. We'd have expected to cram in like sardines at the cheapest cost.

But nowadays, years later, it does not sound even remotely appealing to me.

If there's a sharp divide in age and/or income level within this group, then it would make sense for a misunderstanding like this to occur.

Chenecinquantecinq · 13/04/2025 20:04

I think the last time I would have considered sharing a bed with a friend on holiday I was about 17. Adults should not do this it is not a holiday sharing a bed imo more like hell.

CruCru · 13/04/2025 20:07

It’s a bit off topic but why on earth did someone decide to book somewhere that was too small for the group?

croydon15 · 13/04/2025 20:12

FelloffaCliffedge · 12/04/2025 09:34

It sounds like she has form for this from what you’ve said about past trips. So I’d just tell her the truth now or you’re going to have this every time. Say you thought she’d book somewhere big enough for everyone and you wont find it a relaxing break for you with everyone cramped in and not enough beds.

This

EdithBond · 13/04/2025 20:16

Glad you got it sorted!

When I’ve gone away like this with mates, I’ve taken an air bed and bedding (in vac packs) in a suitcase on the train. That way I have my own bed. It’s only for a couple of nights.

Though you shouldn’t exceed the number of bed spaces as the Airbnb owner’s insurance may not be valid.

Some people don’t think. If it says ‘sleeps 6’, they don’t think to look at the bed configuration, e.g. it’s three doubles, one of which may be a sofa bed, which would be a snug fit even for a couple.

AnonAnonmystery · 13/04/2025 20:23

Why don’t you ladies just find accommodation that will provide you all with a comfortable bed?

MikeRafone · 13/04/2025 20:26

Just be honest

Say, im not risking going away and getting thrown out of digs because there are to many of us. So its a no from me and that'll leave you the correct numbers - have a great weekend. Places have a limit on numbers due to insurance.

Alittlewordinyourear · 13/04/2025 20:28

I think two sharing a bed is too much unless it’s sisters or people who have known each other since early childhood! 3 to a bed is ridiculous ! Why did she notbook the required number of rooms or at the very least consult with everyone ? No way would I go on that trip !

That's an amazing idea!! What about OP and another friend finding a local hotel room with a bed each for less cost and staying there?

🙄

@BacktoBeginnersFran sorry did I miss something?

If only the OPs posts were in a different colour, or there was a button to press to see all of OPs posts…………….

How much easier it would all be 😂.

orangedream · 13/04/2025 22:12

Good decision not to stay. Most Airbnbs have cameras on the door now and you'd probably all have been asked to leave for exceeding the maximum occupants.

MillieMinx · 13/04/2025 22:56

I’d be backing out too! I don’t share a room let alone a bed and I think it’s totally unreasonable to class a sofa as a bed. Either book somewhere else for yourself or back out and tell her why. Life is too short for stiff backs and piss taking

Darls3000 · 14/04/2025 07:35

Say you’ve pulled your back and you’re in agony and the absolute last thing you need right now is a bed you don’t know.
