Best friend husband unfriended me on Facebook

To be offended that my best friends husband has unfriended me on Facebook. I only noticed by chance. Best friend says don’t take it personal ? But we have been best friends since 14, we are now both 54….they now live quite remotely about 5 hours away, so I don’t see her. I just find it odd behaviour. Should I care or even be bothered ?

The complete wankers are the ones who post:

”if you’re reading this then congratulations, you’ve survived my cull.” Followed by loads of comments from sycophants saying “oh yay, I’m so happy I’m your friend” <cringe>. Actually that’s another reason to unfriend people.

Or those who post “If you’ve been through cancer/mental health difficulties/<insert heinous disease of choice> copy and paste this to your status so that people know you care. I know only my true friends will post this, so I will be unfriending those who don’t.

I unfriend those as well…

Yes those fair enough, with there friend cull message to the lucky ones who survive but I don’t think people are ‘wankers’ as they have been called for deleting people silently that they no longer want on their Facebook friends list

KewTitles · 12/04/2025 10:54

Coconutter24 · 12/04/2025 10:52

I understand you think people are wankers what I do t understand is why you think people are wankers for wanting to delete people from their own social media. We wouldn’t continue to have a relationship with someone in real life if we didn’t want to so why should we on social media?

But that’s why I said “unless you’ve actively fallen out with them”. I wouldn’t keep people on Facebook who I actively wanted out of my life. But casual friends I’ve not seen in a long time? Why would I delete them?

Bernie54 · 12/04/2025 10:55

CountryQueen · 12/04/2025 10:54

You’ll have been liking shitty bot posts about self help or narcs or “dance like nobody’s watching” nonsense.

Nah you sound like you know more about that than me 🤣🤣

Some people don’t want to see what casual friends are up to, if they haven’t seen them in a long time they might not care what they’re are doing so delete them. Doesn’t mean they are wankers for doing that

cardibach · 12/04/2025 10:56

Maybe you wouldn’t @KewTitles , but it doesn’t mean someone who did is a self important wanker. I tend to just leave people alone unless they post stuff that annoys me and I don’t interact with them, but I have no problem with anyone who has periodic culls.

Well that’s where we disagree. I don’t know what you want me to say.

XWKD · 12/04/2025 11:04

I have a friend I'd love to unfriend of FB, but he has problems and I think it's better if I don't. He's obsessed with antivax conspiracy shite and posts a couple of times a day about Covid. I used to be able to unfollow him so he wouldn't show up in my notifications.

I've also had friend requests from people who had previously unfriended me after a clear out. It doesn't mean anything.

Well I think differently. My opinion is no more valid than yours or vice versa.

Because you’re bored by irrelevant people in whom you no longer have much interest cluttering up your FB? Because keeping people you haven’t seen in 20 years and will almost certainly never see again as ‘friends’ seems completely pointless? Because you suddenly realise that having your ex’s sister’s friend’s beautician friended is a bit mad, given that you’ve been divorced for a decade?

Coconutter24 · 12/04/2025 11:13

KewTitles · 12/04/2025 11:04

Well that’s where we disagree. I don’t know what you want me to say.

Well the original question I asked was, If you don’t have contact with someone or no longer interested in what they’re up to why do we have to remain Facebook friends? If the only reason is because your a wanker if you delete them then that is a bit of a odd reason to stay Facebook friends

KewTitles · 12/04/2025 11:14

But why would you add your partner’s sister’s beautician’s granny or whoever in the first place? As for people you haven’t seen in 20 years, surely the point is that you can keep in touch after a fashion?

Do I? I only know it because that’s why I deleted my mates wife and another friend. She is constantly “healing” and apparently we all need to know what a “strong woman” she is. 🥱

Well don’t stay Facebook friends with them then! It’s not like I’m the Prime Minister and have passed a law on this. I’m just someone with a different view to you. Why would it bother you if a stranger thought you were being an arse?

I wasn’t. I was pointing out that calling people wankers for having a different view from yours was a bit…excessive.

Of course not 🙄. Just a suggestion. Unless you want to tell us your last few posts and “likes” before he deleted you, all we can do is make suggestions and that is mine.

One post that had me delete everyone who shared it was the “Let Them” post. Not only is it a load of self indulgent nonsense, its popularity meant it was used by a lot of bot accounts, many of them sharing Trump propaganda. A friend asked why I unfriended her and that was why, I told her and now she has Let Them… tattooed on her wrist 🤣 fucking melt

The unfollow button doesn't show up. I can only unfriend him. I don't want to do that as he has some problems.

Exactly you wouldn’t stay friends, and it wouldn’t make you a wanker 🤦‍♀️

Lovelysummerdays · 12/04/2025 11:34

I’m never on Facebook but I can understand having a cull every now and again. Do you ever actually communicate with him directly on Facebook? If not then you don’t really need to be surprised or offended.
