To take recreational drugs in your 50s

Isthisokdoyouthink · 11/04/2025 19:34

Just that really. Bunch of married fathers going out and taking recreational drugs (concealed up one of them’s rectum) - one hid it from his wife, one has a wife that does it too, the other I don’t know.

What do you think?

AIBU to feel a bit eurgh about it and a bit like they never grew up?

YABU - it’s fine. Each to their own

YANBU - it is a bit yuk.

Why are they sticking it up their arse? Are their wives strip searching them when they leave.

🤣🤣🤣

80% are with me so far. Glad it’s not just me.

I'd guess 80% of the population regularly post pictures of their young children on the internet multiple times a week.

I have a really big problem with that. Who is wrong in this scenario?

Is it your ex involved in the example scenario?

OudAndRose · 11/04/2025 21:16

I was on the fence until you said one of them had it up his bum. Ew.

Trumpsgoneloco · 11/04/2025 21:16

@edwinbear I had just got into (underage) raving then & that really shocked me and I didn't touch anything as a result.

Woodburnerisout · 11/04/2025 21:17

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/04/2025 20:17

Up his arse? To get into a gig? He’s got to be winding you up.

Surely anyone knows you just take your pill before you go in , no smuggling required

Leah Betts put me off, I was 2 years older than her and never took drugs because of that photo. Her poor family were subsequently hounded out of their home by the local drug dealers, who found their trade was being impacted by their high profile campaign - as if they hadn’t suffered enough. The criminality around it is a hard boundary for me.

Me too! I avoided all but weed for life because of her. Which to be fair, was exactly the point of the campaign. I bet it was true for a lot of people and hope her poor family know that it had some positive impact.

Chocolate sprinkles for added flavour?

I remember this, it was big news - at least in Scotland and yes this story did help put me off drugs too. I didn’t know her family had been treated this way by the drug dealers though. Horrific.

Jesus, really? That’s scary.

I barely drink let alone take drugs, but scary when so many young people do.

Yeah, I had no idea this happened much until I saw a story about a teen girl passing away after she smoked a joint that was laced. I looked into it and it's becoming pretty common in the US, not so much here.

I'm not against marijuana because it has some fantastic health benefits. But, I wouldn't risk buying it from an unknown source anymore. (Not that I have in the past decade anyway).

CatCaretaker · 11/04/2025 21:18

Sorry, up someone's rectum? Just, why?? They're bloody everywhere, there's no need for them to go up someone's bum, it's not prison.

I realise that's not the point of the thread.

Trumpsgoneloco · 11/04/2025 21:18

say what now?

Fioratourer · 11/04/2025 21:20

I would consider myself health concious which is why I never touched drugs. If other people chose to it was their choice. I had an ex that did and became addicted. However now older I don’t understand those that do when you consider how the drugs are made and distributed. Up the arse drugs is a thing for those desperate enough I bet they wouldn’t put their food up there though.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 11/04/2025 21:20

^The highest rate of drug deaths is still among men in “Generation X”, particularly those aged 40-49, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said. Cocaine deaths were nearly 10 times higher in 2023 than a decade earlier, claiming more than 1,100 lives.^
Interesting. Drug deaths are rising.

Apreslapluielesoleil · 11/04/2025 21:21

A large percentage of killings, slavery, human trafficking and violence in this country is down to drugs. Everyone who buys is contributing to the misery as well as the bullets and knives that kill. Someone’s drug money paid for the gun and bullets that killed little Olivia in Liverpool.
But hey, why care about dead children and women and men kept in slavery when you can have a ball every weekend ?

MumWifeOther · 11/04/2025 21:21

One thing to be young and stupid, another to be old and dumb 🤷🏽‍♀️

qandatime · 11/04/2025 21:22

My husband has had a friend in his fifties who has never grown up, takes coke every weekend… It’s ridiculous.

I think this about marijuana.

I think it's incredibly helpful to many. Then I think about the psychosis link theory. I really need to explore that and how accurate that is! The thought of it bringing on psychosis and other conditions is scary. It could all be unproven though. Another subject for me to research.

Disgusting!

I hate people who take drugs, making it sound like it’s cool and not hurting anyone.

they have no idea the havoc they are causing indirectly due to their actions. Gangs, drug cartels, child lines, they all exist because of idiots using drugs causing demand for them. I hope they get what they deserve.

And throw in modern slavery as well. Drugs cause so much misery.

Nothing right on and cool about people being transported into the country in stifling container lorries to work as forced labour on Cannabis farms. Nothing "jolly japes" about gangsters in Mexico & Columbia beheading people on the orders of drug Lords. Nothing "a bit of harmless recreational fun" about Olivia Pratt - Korbel being shot on her doorstep while drug gangsters tried to gun each other down in the street. Nothing "big" about mums grieving because their teenage children have been stabbed or shot because they've got caught up in the evil drug distribution network.

Do you have any real world suggestions as to how this might be tackled? Looks like prohibition doesn't work.

I imagine his behaviour is unbearable. It brings out the absolute worst in people, men mostly I notice.

GeorgianaM · 11/04/2025 21:24

Repulsive, juvenile behaviour and I would dump immediately.

I'd like to explore this too. I watched a short programme about a legalisation project in Ohio. Maybe it was because of the drugs of choice there that it did not appear to work well!!

Yeah. I wasn’t quite sure how the gramma worked there! 😂 But yes. Sad but true. Knowing the things this guy did in his youth it doesn’t surprise me. But I have lost respect for him 100%

Didn't portugal legalise a lot of recreational drugs in the last few years and it's actually had a huge impact on crime rates lowering?

When things are illegal it means they're unregulated, unsupervised and literally a bag of white powder could be anything from cocaine to ajax to anything much worse.
