To take recreational drugs in your 50s

Isthisokdoyouthink · 11/04/2025 19:34

Just that really. Bunch of married fathers going out and taking recreational drugs (concealed up one of them’s rectum) - one hid it from his wife, one has a wife that does it too, the other I don’t know.

What do you think?

AIBU to feel a bit eurgh about it and a bit like they never grew up?

YABU - it’s fine. Each to their own

YANBU - it is a bit yuk.

Why would it need to be smuggled up anyone's bum to get past gig security? A few pills would fit quite nicely into a ziplock bag in someone's jeans pocket. You don't get body searched attending a concert.

I think your xh is winding you up with tall tales, tbh.

Having said that, it's probably a silly idea at his & his mates' ages, & I would have minimal sympathy if one of the daft buggers had a heart attack.

(& yes ethically also horrid, I guess).

Nope. I was there. They went off to the loo to sort it out 🤮

There's no criminality involved with psilocybin, they grown down the road from me in abundance!

VapeVamp12 · 11/04/2025 20:59

If any of you "never do drugs, how pathetic" posters drink alcohol, I'm not listening.

Just because booze is legal so many people think its fine.

I'm not condoning use of drugs, especially class A drugs, but personally my friends who smoke weed over drinking booze are a hell of a lot more "normal" than the ones who have gone down the drinking route.

I personally wouldn't judge - each to their own but the moral issues stop me myself from doing it.

Hoolihan · 11/04/2025 20:59

You don't get sniffer dogs at gigs ffs 😂 Especially those likely to appeal to a load of 50 somethings.

JHound · 11/04/2025 21:00

Doesn’t seem odd to me but then I know a fair few people in that age bracket that so recreational drugs from time to time.

Nobody that would put it up their rectum / conceal from their partner though!

Catsandcannedbeans · 11/04/2025 21:00

I don’t think it’s that bad. I think it’s funny they thought they had to back door it to get it through doors at security at a gig though, I would probably laugh at them before I judged them too harshly.

Hohofortherobbers · 11/04/2025 19:51

I wouldn't take something that had been up my own arse, let alone my mates Confused

That was my first thought. I am a child of the 60's 70's I had opportunities but never fancied it and thought the people who did looked pretty stupid. Of course its up to people what they do and its understandable to be stupid as a teenager but youd hope for better sense in adults. Damn right I'd judge.

Trumpsgoneloco · 11/04/2025 21:02

This feels incredibly controlling I must say.

How is it controlling? It feels very disingenuous to me

We are all doing things that have a really dire impact to varying degrees on those less fortunate.

There is no supply chain in the world that doesn't have some form of exploitation be it low wages, lax health & safety etc no matter how much a multinational tries to monitor it. This is not the same as the drug trade and associated violence, crime and deaths.

Rosie8880 · 11/04/2025 21:03

to Do any kind of significant drug - pills / mdma - I’d need to clear my diary for two weeks to recover now! Just not worth the wasted time. A tiny tiny bit is fine I think, no after effects at all’s

JHound · 11/04/2025 21:04

Isthisokdoyouthink · 11/04/2025 19:53

To get past security.

That seems a bit extreme!

Sorry, I have to disagree with you there! The last three big events I've been to have had sniffer dogs! 90s Fest and Reminisce always have them. Didn't happen in my day 😉

Huh? So it doesn’t matter as long as it’s not people in the UK affected? Surely that’s not what you have to say?
Stop twisting my comments.
The UK has strict anti children labour laws unlike the countries that produce chocolate and clothing.
Are you suggesting it is okay to fund county lines?

I haven’t twisted anything, your comment was quite straightforward – I assume that’s why you’ve copied and pasted rather than using the quote function.

What have the respective labour laws got to do with anything? Either you support child labour or you don’t.

And your question is ridiculous – it has no basis, since I haven’t suggested that in any way, shape or form.

Tbh I wasn't arsed but when you said one of them 'concealed it up his bum', i swiftly changed my mind 😭

I think its fine to have recreational fun tbh but I'd prefer a man who was in a private members club or something, rather than whatever this is

PML at the comment about not being arsed when they up the bum 😂

Only thing I've done is the odd spliff when at uni in 1980's.

My late DH used to talk about a visit from 'Uncle Charlie' (eg: cocaine) when on tour with bands & I understand that he also had experience of LSD. But I was never bothered.

I prefer a glass or 3 of wine on a weekend evening.

Leah Betts put me off, I was 2 years older than her and never took drugs because of that photo. Her poor family were subsequently hounded out of their home by the local drug dealers, who found their trade was being impacted by their high profile campaign - as if they hadn’t suffered enough. The criminality around it is a hard boundary for me.

WhatDaHell · 11/04/2025 21:08

The amount of overdose stories I see about drugs (even weed) being laced with fentanyl is unbelievable. Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't chance it now.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 11/04/2025 21:08

Bit of an extreme place to hide it but I've known people do it especially when there have been sniffer dogs (festivals and large arena club nights).

I hate the searches in clubs these days, it feels really inappropriate and I hate how they feel round my underwire and lift it up. If I was going to hide drugs it wouldn't be in my bra.

As for drugs, the come down are shit as you get older and it takes so much longer to recover.

wastingtimeonhere · 11/04/2025 21:09

I've never in my life done drugs or even smoked. I'm the youngest in the road, it's pensioners in the bungalows, (DH is a pensioner) the smell of weed is all you can smell on a nice evening.

Jesus, really? That’s scary.

I barely drink let alone take drugs, but scary when so many young people do.

Happyspendingthedayinthegarden · 11/04/2025 21:10

Reminds me of when my mother spent a few days at the Greenham Common Peace camp c1982. She told me how they would roll a huge ciggie & pass it around. I asked her if she partook - she said no because she didn't smoke, but thought it rather cool that they were sharing a huge ciggie. Then I told her it was probably a joint. She was shocked & so relieved that she didn't participate. 😂

I had a BALL in my teens, twenties and thirties. An absolute ball! Enjoyed every party, rave and festival. Every Friday night, post work housemate & boyfriend catch up with beers and a spliff. And the Sunday afternoons stoned and watching a movie or a natural history doc 👀. Amazing memories.

Would I do drugs now? Not a chance - the FEAR would kill me if the drug induced heart attack didn’t. Would I judge others? Depends on their circumstances I guess.

How would you feel if your DC took it?

Fupoffyagrasshole · 11/04/2025 19:51

But why is taking mdma worse than going binge drinking.

It's not but it's not socially acceptable for Tabatha's mummy to have a line in the pub garden with her ethically sourced roast dinner at the weekend. Getting fucked up on Prosecco appears to be okay though. Middle class hypocrisy at its best.

She drank too much water in a short space of time. It wasn't the drugs that killed her per se it was all the water.
