To take recreational drugs in your 50s

Isthisokdoyouthink · 11/04/2025 19:34

Just that really. Bunch of married fathers going out and taking recreational drugs (concealed up one of them’s rectum) - one hid it from his wife, one has a wife that does it too, the other I don’t know.

What do you think?

AIBU to feel a bit eurgh about it and a bit like they never grew up?

YABU - it’s fine. Each to their own

YANBU - it is a bit yuk.

Well aren't you the cool girl.

Exactly. It's hilarious how some people think they're so cool, and worldy wise, and 'edgy' because they 'do drugs.' How embarrassing. 😬 They sound about 16.

By the way @Aworldofwonder I have travelled to about 2 dozen different countries (over 5 continents) during my lifetime. A few with work, some with family, a few with friends, some with DH, a few alone.

I will bet my house that YOU have never left the UK though. 😆

Blinkingbother · 11/04/2025 22:50

I judge anyone doing any type of illegal drug - they are directly causing the destruction of other young people’s (teens more often than most) lives. If they want to destroy their own kids lives that’s fine, they should stop f-ing up other people’s.

Fhhl · 11/04/2025 22:51

Isn't there a whole thing on overdosing on mdma? Or maybe drinking too much water and dieing

Sorry, are you addressing me? You seem confused.

Who does drugs?

Who thinks drugs are cool?

And do that matter; who is in the UK?

I'll tell you what IS cool however; those emojis you littered your post with. Now that is edgy...

This thread is making me chuckle… it’s reminding me of the scene from AbFab where Saffy and her friend are at Uni and going on about all the other students drinking and smoking weed.

Funny my DH can’t wait to retire and try weed for the first time. Never did it as a teen or young adult, then got a job with regular drug tests. So he’ll be trying it for the first time in his 50s. It’s legal where I am so no ethical issues!

I think it was MDMA. I can’t bear the fakeness. All lovey dovey and then just awful
on a come down. They are pretty vacuous people though. Very caught up in their own wonderfulness.

I used to take a lot of mdna. I never had a comedown ever it's a sociable drug and makes the world a little bit happier for a while if they put some on the water instead of flouride there would be no war or division

Seriously?

You went back and edited to deliver this?

Go back to telling us all about lights on Christmas trees or whatever you were babbling about earlier. You sounded as ever, very well informed on your opinions.

I completely bemused as to why men like this are selected by women.

Taking recreational drugs is utterly grim. I judge anyone who does it, and the (few) people I know who do smoke weed are not very well educated, and are a bit dim, and are also not the middle or upper classes. Just IME. The smell of weed is utterly foul, and I don't know why people use it.

I know a woman in her mid 30s who has a 4 y.o. child, and she smokes weed 4-7 times a day. Not just occasionally, but every day, around the child, and with the latest man she has in her life/living with her. It's disgusting and I don't want anything to do with anyone who smokes cannabis. (Or takes ANY recreational drug!) It's not cool, it doesn't make you edgy, and it's not clever. It's foul.

A person doesn't look big smoking weed/taking drugs. They look like an idiot. Someone smoking weed/taking recreational drugs in their 50s, I would laugh at, and pity... How pathetic!

Maybe because I’m Canadian and it’s legal but most wealthy people I know smoke weed. Wealthy and educated.

Marijuana helps with chemo, with a myriad of health conditions, physical and mental.

It sounds like you have been exposed to a small sample size.

Also some of us prefer edibles so we don’t smell like weed.

On the other hand I don’t drink. Ever. When I was in England I was surprised by the culture around alcohol.

Lighteningstrikes · 11/04/2025 23:21

I would find them pathetic and sad, but the hypocrisy would be even worse.

Up his rectum? Where is this hedonistic arcadia? Wormwood scrubs?

🤣🤣🤣

LBOCS2 · 11/04/2025 23:23

My understanding is that the sniffer dogs at most large scale festivals are there for explosives, not drugs - we had a lovely chat with the security on our way into a major UK festival with a campervan a couple of years ago. They confirmed we could have taken actual kilograms of weed or coke to distribute as that’s not what they’re looking for (for clarity, we didn’t and weren’t).

Ethical reasons aside I can’t get worked up about drug taking at a gig. I do draw the line at bum-drugs though; I don’t take drugs at all any more but the easiest way to get them in was always to just… put them in my pocket. We go to a lot of gigs and they have a cursory glance into your bag, it all feels a bit extra and dramatic to put it up someone’s arse.

EdithBond · 11/04/2025 23:28

Anyone for sugar?

@Princessconsuelabananahammock9 Marijuana helps with chemo, with a myriad of health conditions, physical and mental.

It also causea a myriad of health conditions, and when people write stuff like this it reminds me of the embarassing "420" crowd who think that marijuana is a secret wonder drug that cures all diseases which is being suppressed by "the system."

Blinkingbother · 11/04/2025 23:41

Re Canada & their laws - how quickly has Mark Carney got back into the local culture?! …only excuse for his capitulation to the first step of being the next US State?… sorry, couldn’t resist - had such better expectations of him.

doodahdayy · 11/04/2025 19:35

yanbu. It’s a heart attack waiting to happen.

Exactly and if it's cocaine and Alcohol is also consumed it changes the chemical make up in your body thus increasing chance of a heart attack.
Bad,bad idea tooting in your 50s.

Except that where this poster lives it’s legal so nobody is really ranting about suppression 🤷‍♀️

HardyKoala · 11/04/2025 23:55

Humans have used drugs as far back as you can trace. Indigenous cultures all have a history of it. They are by and large, fun and enjoyable on a recreational basis. Hence the huge popularity!

Banning it is no different to the moral panic of prohibition. Eventually overturned due to the sheer enjoyment of the drug effect being demanded by so many. Alcohol is an ‘easy’ drug to dip in and out of. Much like cannabis. MDMA and the like you’re in for a little more of the long haul. Harder to have a swift partake on a Friday lunch.

Unfortunately some ‘more to the right’ people have a weird pious attitude towards drug taking. It is clear it’s based on nothing other than pure judgementalism as otherwise they’d be campaigning for legalisation to overcome the ethical issues they so passionately care (about whilst shopping Shein.) These are usually the same people downing their Prosecco waxing lyrical about dirty drug takers.

Roxietrees · 12/04/2025 00:36

Didn’t realise MN was so anti-drugs & judgemental (although should’ve guessed). I don’t think people over 25 do drugs because they “think it’s cool” 🤣 I think they do it to have a good time. Why is it any different to alcohol? It’s ok for someone in their 50s to have a few beers down the pub but not ok to do a bit of MDMA?. Guaranteed the MDMA makes you far less of a dick than being drunk does. I kind of thought almost everyone (maybe not as they got older but at least in their youth did drugs at least a few times) meh just me then?! I’d try not to judge someone in their 50s doing it because it’s their life, maybe they’re getting closer to realising their own mortality and are thinking fuck it let’s have a good time and why not? Although to be honest I probably wouldn’t be able to help myself judging a little if I saw a 50-year-old man chewing his face off at 3am surrounded by 19-year-olds. Yeah..would feel a little grossed out. Wish I could be free of judgement but clearly I’m not.

Regarding whoever said people who do drugs are “lower class” or whatever, that’s total BS, they are prevalent in every single social class. Some of the most interesting, successful and creative people I’ve ever met in my life I met in rehab 😀

Billerto · 12/04/2025 00:40

Drugs are illegal, and cause a lot of harm. It is perfectly reasonable to be anti-drugs. I personally don’t drink but I don’t mind others who do, I refuse to be around drugs though.

Everyone judges btw, it’s what every human needs to do to assess the kind of humans they have around them!

And if you were in rehab for drugs you must be fully aware of what a slippery slope taking them can be.
