To take recreational drugs in your 50s

Isthisokdoyouthink · 11/04/2025 19:34

Just that really. Bunch of married fathers going out and taking recreational drugs (concealed up one of them’s rectum) - one hid it from his wife, one has a wife that does it too, the other I don’t know.

What do you think?

AIBU to feel a bit eurgh about it and a bit like they never grew up?

YABU - it’s fine. Each to their own

YANBU - it is a bit yuk.

Really. Fucking. Stupid. Absolute losers.
Fathers? Fucking irresponsible and pathetic.

PollyCreo · 11/04/2025 22:11

Where does one buy non bum-concealed e's and whizz these days? Asking for a friend in their 50s or Jarvis Cocker

ItGhoul · 11/04/2025 22:11

I’m not really sure what the purpose of this thread is. You obviously have strong views on recreational drugs, which is fine. Don’t take them, then.

You can be as angry with your husband as you like, but projecting that on to anyone on this thread who doesn’t share your distaste is odd. Nobody who does drugs is going to stop taking them because they were judged by an angry woman on Mumsnet.

I have no interest in recreational drugs and I wouldn’t want to be with a partner who was into them. But I don’t really care about anyone else’s drug use.

Of course people die. People die skiing too. (Famously Prof. Nutt showed skiing is more dangerous than taking ecstasy). However, according to YouGov 15% of young people take MDMA and 79 deaths out of those seems a lot more attractive than the 10,407 deaths due to alcohol a year.

😂😂😂 You must not know many people who smoke weed, then. Considering it’s legal in many states in the US, there are plenty of middle aged, middle class people in the world who partake.

Honestly, some of the pearl-clutching on this site is just beyond stereotypical Little England to me, it’s hilarious.

I'm confident based on @BatchCookBabe 's other posts she has never been outside the UK.

suburberphobe · 11/04/2025 22:10

people I know who do smoke weed are not very well educated, and are a bit dim

This makes me chuckle. When I lived in Oxford knew loads of university students smoking dope.

The extremes on this thread are quite frustrating. It's helpful to consider the multitudes of caveats, ifs and what's.

For example, wedging it up your ass in advance just conjures up too many whatabouts for me 😄.

I thoroughly enjoy listening to Professor Nutt.

Who might speak more sense here? This guy, or the pinheads in Government making policy who sacked him.

HardyKoala · 11/04/2025 22:17

They hired him as the drugs Czar because of his expertise then sacked him when his conclusions showed almost all drugs were safer than alcohol.

Yes! It's diabolical but you can believe it really when we take a closer look

And how is one supposed to tell the difference at the point you are taking it?
What a ridiculous comment.

And how do you chemically test it to check it hasn’t been laced? It’s hardly an FDA approved controlled substance is it? Unless you are a chemist and make it yourself

localnotail · 11/04/2025 22:32

Drugs that have been up someone's arse? Never OK

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 11/04/2025 22:32

SleepQuest33 · 11/04/2025 20:02

Disgusting!

I hate people who take drugs, making it sound like it’s cool and not hurting anyone.

they have no idea the havoc they are causing indirectly due to their actions. Gangs, drug cartels, child lines, they all exist because of idiots using drugs causing demand for them. I hope they get what they deserve.

This exactly.

Kreisler · 11/04/2025 22:35

For all those saying they'd never do drugs due to the supply chain : I hope you never drink Guinness. Not only do they traffic those leprechauns, they make them ride horses.

lifeonmars100 · 11/04/2025 22:37

I used to take drugs and I used to get drunk, I matured out of both. Getting wrecked on any substance as one gets older is embarrassing and pathetic.

A few of DH’s friends have got into coke in their late 40s/50s. It’s grim. We recently had a party and they came and behaved terribly and were just so out of sync with everyone else.

Also (bit shallow) I can’t help but think it’s a bit undignified at 50. You can get away with idiocy better at 18.

Plus you’d hope a 50yo would have some understanding of the horrible criminal world that underlies the whole thing.

We had a house party years ago and basically said to one friend not to bring person X who is drug nob head so instead they turned up with drug nob head Y 🙄 who we barely know. (Presumably because they were so desperate to smoke) They all took themselves off the the bathroom and stood in the bath tub to smoke 🤦🏼‍♀️ it was pretty obvious because of all the muddy footprints in the bath tub. Ironically if it’s just weed I actually don’t care too much about how people want to spend their time but, like lots of things in life, its quite hard for people not to get addicted or to recognise they are addicted because they can still function day to day. It does change behaviour though. Acting out of sync is an accurate description. If they had been upfront they could have just used our balcony, but instead they snuck around behaving like teens and I had to clean a bath tub for no reason.

Nowadays it does all seem a bit unethical with what a terrible impact the drug trade has on communities.

Misses the point...

Kreisler · 11/04/2025 22:44

These things creep up on you. One minute you're in a bath at a house party, the next you're fishing a hatchback and 500kg of cocaine from your rectum.

Jk987 · 11/04/2025 22:45

I voted yabu because you didn’t give any information about who these people are in relation to you and how their behaviour affects you? Or are they just strangers on the internet?

Amanitacae · 11/04/2025 22:45

BatchCookBabe · 11/04/2025 21:53

Exactly this. Not the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree who take recreational drugs is it? And anyone who defends it needs to give their head a wobble!

Actually a good percentage Silicon Valley are doing recreational drugs. Many of highest intelligence/‘brightest bulbs’.

If you are connected to the tech industry: famously and notoriously, yes.

What is your qualification? No drug is safe.
