Had this for the first time ever yesterday. Well! My oh my! What a revelation! Beats ketchup and Eve mayo any day of the week. Try it and see if I’m being unreasonable 😋. Also - any more fabulous foody wonders out there I might be missing? What do you knock up when you just want a once in a blue moon self indulgent treat?

So you’re not northern then, we wean our babies on it up here 🤣

Bonsaibaby · 03/04/2025 07:35

Chips and curry sauce?

Rooroobear · 03/04/2025 07:36

Chips and gravy with ketchup is amazing!

BumbleBeegu · 03/04/2025 07:37

As a die hard northerner, I concur. Food of the gods 👌🏻

Add mushy peas and scraps, and it’s a veritable feast 😘

Chips and curry sauce?

That's what I was going to say, so good 😋

Thismomlikesknitting · 03/04/2025 07:38

Gravy and chip now that's what I'm having for lunch.
Originally from up north was a regular in our house.

Flidina · 03/04/2025 07:38

Chips , cheese and gravy food of the gods

angelopal · 03/04/2025 07:38

You need to add cheese to the chips and gravy.

Blackcountrychik83 · 03/04/2025 07:38

Cheese chips and gravy :)

Omg scraps they don't do them here in London I miss them.

CharlotteCChapel · 03/04/2025 07:40

Chips and gravy is only acceptable when you're having pie and chips.

I have to admit I rarely eat chips but when I do they're drowning in vinegar or dipped in brown sauce.

Whatafustercluck · 03/04/2025 07:41

I can't tell you how much this disgusts me.

Mayo, salt and vinegar are the only additions that should go anywhere near chips. It's the law.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2025 07:41

I'm a northerner living in the south but regularly drove up the M1 to a client in Hull. I can confirm that the North starts at Leicester Forest East as that is the first service station going north where gravy is offered as standard with chips.

Food of the gods. I feel sorry for you OP that you've had such a deprived life up until now.

faerietales · 03/04/2025 07:43

You need to add cheese! Chips first, then cheese, then gravy all over - mmmm!

As another northerner living in Essex this is very valuable information 🤣

I used to live in Cornwall and the outrage when I asked for gravy down there.

These southerners don't do proper gravy anyway. It hits better when we are back north. Particularly when pairred with a steak pudding 😋

FetidMoppet · 03/04/2025 07:46

Displaced northerner here, couldn't agree more but you need mushy peas as well.
my local chippy sells this as 'northern mix' 😁

AreolaGrande · 03/04/2025 07:46

In NI in the late early 00s our post-pub chippy meal was chips, peas, stuffing and gravy 😍.

Didn't half soak up the Bacardi Breezers.

I would add Edinburgh chippy sauce to your list. I don’t understand why English people have to have gravy on everything.

Chips and gravy fine. Mushy peas - just no. Nasty.

I'm from Essex and don't recall chips and gravy sold around here

In that case I'm slightly too Southern still.

Curry sauce absolutely. If it's Chinese style curry sauce, even better!.

What if I don't like the gravy? Good gravy is something to behold. What if it's just a bit of mixed up granules?!

I never thought I'd KFC gravy, but my word, it's quite lovely 🤣

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2025 07:51

@PrancerandDancer I'm in Essex too - fancy a jaunt up the M1?😃

BumbleBeegu · 03/04/2025 07:53

@PrancerandDancerI had steak pudding last night…I buy 4-packs of Hollands Steak Puddings for my freezer. Our local chippy doesn’t sell them…which is of course outrageous 😬

minnienono · 03/04/2025 08:00

You need to take yourself to Canada on holiday … they not only cover in gravy but add cheese curds, can’t stand it myself but if you’re a gravy fan I recommend trying Poutine. Garlic mayo or better still proper aioli is best with fries, steak cut or skin on type chips, tartar with chip shop chips or just salt and vinegar

Eyesopenwideawake · 03/04/2025 08:06

Fish and chips with gravy is the food of the gods.

itsmeits · 03/04/2025 08:07

Staple at school was pizza chips and gravy.
Chips, pizza on top then the gravy.
We also had gravy on jacket potato's with cheese.
Non of my local chippy's do scallops though! have to drive 20/30 mins to get scollop and gravy 😩
