Had this for the first time ever yesterday. Well! My oh my! What a revelation! Beats ketchup and Eve mayo any day of the week. Try it and see if I’m being unreasonable 😋. Also - any more fabulous foody wonders out there I might be missing? What do you knock up when you just want a once in a blue moon self indulgent treat?

The world will be a brighter place for you op. Chips and Gravy are heavenly, I had it on Monday with left over roast chicken was better than my Sunday dinner.

I'm northern and have never had chips with gravy or curry sauce. Only mushy peas

I'm from Devon and it's always been chips.and gravy for me. When I moved to London, you would have thought I'd have asked them to hand over their chip shop when I asked for it 🤣

Could the gravy just be bisto gravy and still okay? Or does it have to be fancy?? Scottish here and can’t say I have ever tried chips and gravy. Chips and cheese is popular here but it’s literally chips then grated cheese shoved on top. Chips and curry sauce (the sauce is a powdered substance made up with boiling water) is popular too.

No, no, no. Gravy on chips is just pure wrong. Ketchup, fruity sauce or brown sauce. Weirdly was having this conversation the other day with my cousin who is also a weirdo gravy on chips person😂

Very specific information like this makes my day. Thank you. I'd been feeling a bit grumpy.

It pains me to say it, as a northerner, but the best chips and gravy I've ever had was in a pub in Plymouth. Annoyingly it cost me about £15, because I had it with lamb or something I don't remember, but the chips and gravy were outstanding and would have been enough on their own.

But fish and gravy is wrong, I like mine with curry sauce and pilau rice.

For a bit of variety at home on yummy chips, cheese and gravy, substitute sweet potato fries: heavenly!! Add some garden peas to pretend it’s healthy, a thin base of peas works best. Scatter some chopped up chicken breast over the peas and under the chips to cover (almost) all the food groups 😄

I've never understood how people have not had chips and gravy.

Boggles my mind. If one makes a pie, and chips, there will definitely be gravy involved.

Gravy is vile and doesn't belong on any food in my view. Why make lovely crisp foods like chips, roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings etc soggy with gravy? I am not a baby and have teeth so don't need to eat slop

Chips and gravy is wonderful. Brought up in the south by a northern mum so we ate them at home all the time. Now live in the north so all good. Most chip shops just offer a pot of bisto stuff - nothing’s artisan.

The best chips and gravy I’ve ever had was at the cafe at Barter Books in Alnwick.
