Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

I’m a woman too, and my opinion is that using such strong words for criticism suggests outrage. Criticism might be it was ‘poor’ or ‘disappointing’. Not that it was. As a woman my opinion is this is a load of nonsense confected by people who dislike Starmer.

"Disgraceful" in particular has very strong "Outraged of Tunbridge Wells/Hyacinth Bucket vibes to it. It's not really in the thoughtful, considered criticism category - and in relation to a few sentences on social media is pretty OTT.

I can only hear it in Liz Truss’ voice. 😂

That.Is.A.Disgrace.

LordEmsworth · 01/04/2025 19:59

You think that's bad?

NOTHING today to mark All Fools' Day today. The contempt is something else, it is one of the most well-known days in the calendar - probably better known than Mothers' Day. But not a word!

That’s not very inclusive of him. I’m sure fools everywhere are discusted.

It’s National Ferret Day tomorrow. Let’s see if Kier steps up.

Yep, ferrets and fools absolutely comparable to Mothers. Lovely. Are you on his comms team by any chance?

cardibach · 01/04/2025 21:25

Oh give it up @Janiie
He posted about Mothers’ Day on one platform and Eid on another. Banging on endlessly about it and trying to make it contempt for mothers or some sort of incompetence or lack of inclusivity is silly.

Social media is like the media. For example, as a pm you don't say one thing on the BBC and something else on ITV. You say the same thing on all channels. Ditto X and iG.
We know he isn't the brightest spark but someone should advise him on these matters.

Really?

@DangerQuakeRhinoSnake @Pinepeak2434
My god you two need to get off social media and find some kind of life. A disgrace?
Jesus wept.

Eh? Politicians have always picked and chosen TV channels. They frequently go on the BBC and not ITV, or vice versa. Have you ever watched the news or political programmes?

He’s not the one who’s coming across as not very bright here.

That’s nonsense. He might well go on a political programme on BBC and talk about serious issues, and breakfast TV on ITV and talk about more personal or family matters. Same thing just happened with social media.

Edit: saying that someone with the academic and professional background Starmer has isn’t ’the brightest spark’ is a bit odd.

MyToasterCanLiveAgain · 01/04/2025 22:32

Um are you the same poster who got upset about her partner not wishing her for her birthday and then for mother's day on The Socials? 🤔

I don't doubt his academic qualifications I just mean from a comms/pr point of view.

Lol at him not being the brightest spark! He passed the exam for a free grammar school place, he qualified as a barrister and became the Director of the Crown Prosecution Service. It's fine to dislike him and his politics but to imply that he isn't intelligent or well qualified is ridiculous.

You just make yourself look more ridiculous.

This is really ridiculous.
If the PM goes on ITV, he does not also go on BBC and say the same thing.

And it is just your opinion that people need to say the same thing across all social media, loads of professional people release different information on different platforms for different audiences.

I recommend that you follow the PM on all platforms and not just Twitter, then you won't miss anything.

And as for your brightest spark comment - there is no "we" about it, own your opinion.

I've just said I don't doubt his qualifications I'm talking about his media appearances, sm posts, comms etc. All the stuff that should be impressive and slick. He just isn't.

Do you think he does all the Content Creation, and posts himself, on the “Prime Minister” account ?
