Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

Last year Mothers Day coincided with the beginning of Ramadan. Here's the PM's tweet. No mention of Mothers Day. No twatter storm.

'He doesn't need to vomit everything out on a single account'

What an unpleasant turn of phrase.

Of course mother's day is bollocks.

Have you SEEN the threads over the past week?!

Don't read them? Scroll on by? Not compulsory you know to go onto threads you have no interest in. There's lots of threads where I just eye roll and scroll on by.

Porcelainpig · 31/03/2025 16:30

Bizarre thread. 😂 Are you expecting him to wish you happy birthday OP?

thepariscrimefiles · 31/03/2025 14:14

I don't think that the knee jerk comments are as prevelent or as angry about Jewish, Sikh and Hindu holidays/festivals as they are about Islamic holidays although some people will moan about any holidays/celebrations that aren't Christian. Islamaphobia is rife on Twitter and this thread is definitely an Islamaphobic dog whistle and many like-minded people have answered the call.

I think it's absolutely fine to voice your concerns about any celebration, providing you dont shut people down just because they dont agree with you. The difference on here being that there are some trying to close down people just for voicing an opinion. It's just do tedious and predictible...

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 11:38

Why the hell wouldn't he mention Eid when it's a huge day for Muslims? Millions of people in the uk are celebrating it. It's the same reason he mentions Christmas and Diwali.

Lent is a very important part of the Christian calendar, but not a word from him.

cardibach · 31/03/2025 16:35

ERthree · 31/03/2025 16:33

What would he say about Lent? It’s a time of reflection and self denial, not something to celebrate all over the place. He’ll post about Easter as he has in the past.

RedToothBrush · 31/03/2025 16:36

I think you may be missing the tone of certain posters...

Honestly outrage that the PM hasn't virtue signalled enough on social media about mother's day is something else though.

Find something worth getting upset about.

Like dying hedgehogs or something.

TheHateIsNotGood · 31/03/2025 16:28

@RedToothBrush if it helps National Ice Cream Day is celebrated on the 20th July https://www.calendarr.com/united-kingdom/national-ice-cream-day/

Oooooh maybe we can make it a thing on MN. Or try and get it to go viral on other social media.

Then everyone can moan about that too.

No one is outraged, no one is upset.

Proving that X Monkeys will unthinkingly do whatever they're told.🙈 I hope they're getting their arses handed to them on the many other platforms too.

Thick, racist fuckwits.

Calm down. We are increasingly seeing this type of aggressive post, usually by people who are control freaks and want to control what other people say and think because it doesn't align with their own opinions. You can froth at the mouth all you want, but if people have an opinion, they're going to voice it. Get over it.

Well he said something about Ramadon which is similar to Lent, no?

Are you reading the same thread as me?

The one that the OP (as amongst others) complains that lent hasn't been observed and the PM has ignored mothers?!!!

😂

CurlewKate · 31/03/2025 16:43

How do you acknowledge Lent?

minnienono · 31/03/2025 16:43

Perhaps he like many is avoiding Twitter/X due to its owners? Bluesky is my go to now

Same way you do ramadan 'Sending my warmest wishes to Muslim communities across the UK and around the world during the holy month of Ramadan' KS on X in Feb.

In some ways. Lent isn’t practiced by all Christians, it’s not quite such an integral part of the religion. He mentioned it once at the start and once at the end (Eid) as far as I can see. Any thoughts about the unfairness of not mentioning Eid on instagram yet?

aspidernamedfluffy · 31/03/2025 16:48

RedToothBrush · 31/03/2025 14:02

Mother's Day is triggering and offensive to those without mothers or who have mothers who have died.

Many organisations now allow you to opt out of Mother's Day marketing.

The PM should be more sensitive about this and not make social media posts that may cause distress for many.

My mum's dead (5 years ago today), I'm neither "triggered" or "offended" by others mentioning it on SM, RL or anywhere else. If you'd replaced the word "those" with "some", then you would be right, but don't imply that it's all of us because it really isn't.

Yes, complained and observed. There hasn't been any outrage and 'upset'.

Why would any PM be talking about Mother's Day? That day is between a mother and her children. 🙄

RedToothBrush · 31/03/2025 16:50

Personally I think complaining also covers upset in many quarters.

Starmer? Or the No 10 account? It’s two different things. The No 10 account doesn’t belong to the person, but the office.
Look, he mentioned Ramadan and Eid. He mentioned Mothers’ Day. He’ll mention Easter. Just not all on all platforms. I have no idea why you want people to justify it to you or why you think it’s weird.

I've literally said upthread he either does sm or he doesn't. So, mention key events on all his platforms or don't do sm.

As pm he should have a bit of common sense and social media awareness. It isn't hard <to quote a pp>.
