Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:12

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

So what I'm getting from his defenders is... why would he tweet about it, it's not his job, but also, he posted about it on other socials didn't he do well?

I'm not his mother so why would he post about mothers day, but oh how lovely he acknowledged his mum and wife 🤨

Not on FB or Instagram so wouldn't see those.

If it's an admin error then it's hilariously unprofessional.

Link?

You know where he posts, you look. You made the bloody claim, you obviously checked first, no? Or did you just pick this up from some nasty Twitter account?

You got this wrong, wind your neck in and don't embarass yourself further.

I’m not his mum. I don’t expect him to say happy Mother’s Day any more than I’d expect any other worker to say it.

I'd put money on most of those upset about the Lent omission being people who have never bothered about Lent before. They are probably sharing that post on Facebook that Easter eggs don't have Easter on them.

I'm sure all the outraged twitter bots are strictly observing a lenten fast and returning to their mother churches today.

Have you had a shit mother's day or something, OP?

This is such a non-issue, you're making yourself look ridiculous.

I bet you fit in really well on Twitter.

I don’t think it’s ‘lovely’ or otherwise, I literally couldn’t give a shit about kier starmer posting about Mother’s Day. But you created a thread to slag him off and were wrong 🤷‍♀️ even if you had have been right, who cares? If he wanted to say happy Mother’s Day to his mum privately what is it to you? Unless he’s your child or your mum it’s just not something you need to worry about. There are plenty of actual political issues you can be annoyed about and slag him off for.

StumbleInTheDebris · 30/03/2025 23:29

So you're fully aware you can't see everything he posts yet claimed he had ignored it.

Why? Why a thread about a thing that exists that you chose not to see? I genuinely don't understand this mindset.

I don't think any one person has said all of those things.

So, you're not on the social media he uses yet you confidently proclaimed he had not posted. Are you a bit thick or something?

I'm not "defending" him, btw, I couldn't give a shit what he posts about, social media is not real life. I'm just correcting your assertion. Because you were wrong. Quite simple.

MojoMoon · 30/03/2025 23:31

The 10 downing street social media accounts belong to the prime minister of the day - it is not Keir Starmer's. The account would be run by civil servants.

Posting pictures of his wife and mother and tributes on them personally on it would be inappropriate. His wife would only appear on that account in the context of an official meeting etc.

How would your life today have been improved if a civil servant had posted "happy mother's day" on the 10 downing street account?

You seem quite upset he didn't wish you a happy mother's day. I hope you are ok? I really couldn't care less if he posted about it or not but you can't be annoyed about him not mentioning it and then get annoyed when people say he did mention it. I'm getting a bit confused trying to follow this.

TheSmallAssassin · 30/03/2025 23:35

None of the last 5 PMs have ever tweeted about Lent.

Liz Truss is the only one to have tweeted Happy Mother's Day, though Boris did a Covid related one.

All bar Boris have tweeted about Eid.

Sorry that Keir didn't check which social media platforms you use, @DangerQuakeRhinoSnake, better luck next year!

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:35

Am looking for the other thread but at 10am I would definitely have given it a bit longer before wondering (or posting)!

If he's not going to do Twitter properly he should probably leave. What could be the aim of feeding different platforms different content?

Oh boo hoo he didn’t wish you a happy Mother’s Day on twitter so he should clearly get off the platform 🙄

I can't imagine that many people would want to post anything about their wives or mothers on the cesspit that is twitter.

The Downing St twitter account will be for more official messages, while other platforms are for the more personal ones.

PandoraSox · 30/03/2025 23:39

I think he is winding up Twitter, knowing the demographics since Musk took over. I am not on Instagram, but saw this on FB

All of them have different audiences, any social media professional knows that, most public figures and companies tailor their content to each platform.

Odras · 30/03/2025 23:41

He probably wanted to upset all the racists on twitter. Or it could have been a mistake or he may have only wanted that post with the photo.

Who cares? There were messages about Eid and Mother’s Day. He was inclusive of everyone. And a post about it being the middle of Lent would be ridiculous.

PinkFrogss · 30/03/2025 23:41

I never knew prime ministers usually posted on social media for Mother’s Day.

Why do you want a post from him OP?

BobbyBiscuits · 30/03/2025 23:42

Did Maggie thatcher routinely give a speech regarding mother's day? I don't need to hear the PM saying 'happy day, be nice to your mum etc' there's more pressing things to be discussed politically and internationally I'd have thought.

Carinattheliqorstore1 · 30/03/2025 23:43

Well, I’m not his mum. So why should he wish me happy Mother’s Day?

I am sure it is an official comms difference between his account and Downing Street. But if I were him I wouldn't want a lot of horrible twitter bots posting god knows what under a tribute to my dead mother. People on Instagram are generally nicer.

PilotFish · 30/03/2025 23:45

OP are you ok? Did someone not share their Mini Eggs with you today?

When I was on X (or twitter as it was back then) I used it only for work reasons. I'd never put anything personal on it. I use my insta for that. I'd never want any of my family being put on the cess out that is X.
