In my defence, I have had a horrible time featuring death which has left me on a swing between dark depression and f*ck it do it now you might be dead tomorrow.

I bought a pair of shoes that I really liked but were a ridiculous amount to spend on shoes of any kind. I feel a bit sick when I think of it. I will keep them as its not bankrupting but it is stupid out of the savings money. I do like them but it was really really really stupid. No one should spend that much on a pair of shoes.

Hoping I am not alone and someone can make me feel a bit better with similar tale that didn't end horribly.

Bought a phone for the price of a second hand car. Felt physically sick using it for the first time, so reset it t to factory settings and took it back to the shop.

Chap was astounded as had only bought it from him a few hours earlier.

It wasn't even an iPhone.

Another one was when I bought a ring that was too small. Haven't worn it since!

I'd feel physically sick even thinking about spending that sort of money on a phone! Mine cost £130 seven years ago and has been fine. I really can't understand why people spend loads on them.

Same here. Mine was £90 in 2019, and has been fine ever since. Only thing is it only has 32 GB of space, and I keep running out - and having to take photos off it and stick it on my computer. Could do with a new one soon (with a better amount of space.) I will get it as cheaply as possible though. (Seen a decent one for £190 recently.) My DC and their friends spend as much as £1800 on a mobile phone - it's always an iPhone. I can't get my head around it. Wouldn't spend this on a mobile phone if I was a millionaire.

I just thought of one - my Welsh blanket!

My granny had one but it was given away when she died. I always wanted one. Three years ago I got one - £320, king sized and made of lambswool.

A phenomenal amount of money for a blanket, but every single night I love it. It’s utterly beautiful, incredibly warm and makes me so, so happy.

JaceLancs · 05/04/2025 10:21

30 ish years ago I spent £80 on some secondhand pottery - a set of Carlton ware lobster pattern plates and salad bowl - at the time that was 4 weeks food budget exDH had just left me for OW with 2 DC under 5, I could only work PT and had a big mortgage to pay
I lived on tea and toast for weeks afterwards to claw it back!
Still love it today and my grown up DC joke about how they are going to divide up my pottery collection when I die - DS has first dibs on the lobsters

I love this story. I'm imagining you snuggled up under the blanket that reminds you of your granny. These are such nice stories where there is a 'it was worth the money to me' happy ending.

@WhyDidIDiddle - if I’m truly honest, my granny’s was itchy all all hell and mine is the softest, snuggliest thing imaginable. So it reminds me of her, but is so, so much nicer 😉

I don’t need heating in the bedroom with this blanket, so I’ve told myself it will pay for itself eventually

FagsMagsandBags · 05/04/2025 12:12

I reckon it's already paid for itself @BeaAndBen . Heating is mad expensive so you've either covered that or are pennies away from covering it but in terms of joy? That probably paid its way when you first held it and knew you had years to come of all the softness.

I'm pretty sure that poster was talking about the Foreo Bear

As they also mentioned the Foreo Peach (although they just called it Foreo, but said it was for hair removal so it's this one).

I have the Foreo Peach and the Foreo UFO and they are both excellent!

The Peach is IPL hair removal, I've been using it for 6 weeks and it's already made a huge difference (they recommend once a week for 12 weeks should work for most people, then occasional maintenance)

The UFO is a temperature changing face massage thing with UV light that is supposed to do something. I think the masks are good but not amazing but I love the way it feels. You choose a programme and it cycles through warming/cooling (and different lights) and I find it really relaxing.

I'm sad about this. I thought it was more like this

I love doing my nails and have a collection of colours by good brands (OPI, Essi, etc). Today, I popped my "have an actual manicure, Fags, go on!" virginity and I loved being looked after and pampered. This will happen again. My nails look so cute, like little bubble things or something, and so shiny and pretty. It wasn't exactly expensive but something I'd never normally pay for and if it had been double the price it would have been worth if for the lovely feeling I got from it.

My flowers turned up as well and I'm looking forward to them blooming by Monday in time for my birthday.

I spent most of my savings on an upgrade on the flight home from Australia. I'd upgraded to business on the way out in advance but the return flight was twice the price. Once I was there I realised there was no way I could fly home in economy so I rang Emirates and upgraded. The nice lady found me a first class ticket for less than business, was still just over £4k. It was amazing though, worth every penny.

Obscenely priced but gorgeous sofa with down lined pillows. It was heaven to snuggle into with a book. But because they were down lined they need to be plumped regularly, and I am the only one in the house that will bother to plump the pillows. I now resentfully observe the squashed sofa from a distance - it has come to represent all the unappreciated menial responsibilities that everyone but me is blissfully oblivious to.

I used to have a sofa like this. I still loved it, but unfortunately so did the elderly, incontinent tom cat. I cried the day I finally accepted that all the cleaning in the world wasn’t going to be enough to get rid of the smell.

I'd do that if I could. I've always wanted to.

I'm obsessed with perfume, and have spent a ridiculous amount of money on it. The upside is that I got some sought after valuable vintage perfumes before they were a thing. 😀

Hey all, it was my birthday Monday and I did the sloth thing. I'm so tired now I can hardly talk about it and just smile when I'm thinking about it. I also ended up with a mixture of some of the things I bought myself for my birthday with one item turning up early and looking to be the only gift of the day, being less than an ideal "ooh guess what I bought for myself!" Saved at the last gasp by a lovely parcel turning up.

Anyway, I might start a thread about it tomorrow rather than bore on this thread because I guess as well the situation is a little different. It'll also be the first time I've started a thread and I do have video and photos of the sloth experience. I hope! I just wanted to let the thread know because I know that some people were looking forward to finding out what went on!

I am so tempted by those wee go-pods. 20k would get a good one. I am so trying to control the urge.

Two dresses, two bags and a jacket from the Miffy collection from Next. It all cost way more than my iPad. Even with Klarna it will be a squeeze paying it back but it’s all just so CUTE I couldn’t bear to return any of it

Ahh I love the miffy ck collab collection! I have 2 mugs. Also have some of the skinnydip miffy stuff even though it’s a tad overpriced.
