Is he a knobhead for not picking me up?

Would you expect your DP to pick you up from the train station when you've been away for the weekend (with my, not our, daughter) and you've a mile to walk to get to his house where your car is parked

He said he was too busy WFH to take 15 mins out to pick me up.

If it was daylight I'd mayne just walk, but not if it was dark.

Although if he was working, why not just get a taxi? Which is probably what I'd do regardless of daylight/nighttime.

FuckssakeMulder · 30/03/2025 00:05

YABU. He was working.

Crinkle77 · 30/03/2025 00:05

If he had a meeting then fair enough not to come get you. Also depends on his manager and how flexible they are about taking time out during the working day.

FurFangsPawsAndClaws · 30/03/2025 00:06

It depends, is he doing a job where he can just take 15 minutes or is monitored by his employer? He is working not just sitting at home doing nothing.

It was pouring down with heavy rain where I am today and it wouldn’t have been a pleasant walk but if the weather was ok then a mile would only take me 20 minutes to walk so I probably wouldn’t even ask my DP to stop working to pick me up.

TeapotTitties · 30/03/2025 00:07

I couldn't pop out of work to give someone a lift, my boss would have a fit.

Were there no taxis?

TheFatCatsWhiskers1 · 30/03/2025 00:08

Was there a reason you couldn't walk? A mile would take about 20 minutes.

I wouldn't expect to be picked up if he was working. If I couldn't walk or it was raining I'd get a taxi.

TennesseeStella · 30/03/2025 00:13

No, I wouldn't expect to be picked up. I'm an independent adult well able to sort out my own life logistics.

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 30/03/2025 00:14

I mean, if he was working, he was at work. So I’d have walked or got a taxi, it’s not far.

Sugarfish · 30/03/2025 00:16

It would’ve been nice if he could but you shouldn’t expect it. Either get a taxi or walk. Single people or people who don’t have partners who drive can manage this.

LasVegass · 30/03/2025 00:19

Why are you mentioning whose daughter you were with? If you think he’d have behaved differently than YANBU.

DrummingMousWife · 30/03/2025 00:19

Get a cab, pick up car and go straight home . I wouldn’t go into his house, cook dinner or stay over, because he is far too busy to see you.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/03/2025 00:20

A mile is nothing and work is work.

DH would if he could. But still, a mile?

Whether he'd be too busy to see the OP would depend on what time he finishes work, surely?

Eenameenadeeka · 30/03/2025 00:25

No, I wouldn't expect him to leave work when it's just a short walk.

mydogfarts · 30/03/2025 00:26

It depends, but by and large when I am working from home I actually am working flat out to hit a deadline or in meetings, so it kind of annoys me that people think I could just duck out and do things.

RightOnTheEdge · 30/03/2025 00:27

I'd say YABU if he was working.
It's hard to judge without knowing how flexible his work is.

Was it chucking it down? Did you have heavy suitcases? Was it late at night?
Are there no taxis in your area?
If none of those things then a mile is an easy walk.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 30/03/2025 00:27

Depends entirely on what his job is and how his wfh role works.

Meadowfinch · 30/03/2025 00:29

He's at work! Why can't you walk?

When I was wfh I hated people assuming I could stop just to drive them somewhere.

steff13 · 30/03/2025 00:31

My work is pretty flexible, and I work from home, but I can't always drop everything to make even a 15 minute trip. I hate the assumption that people make when you're working for home that you're just doing nothing all day long and you can just stop and leave. Sometimes you can do that but sometimes you can't.

Most people have time when they're working, and then time, often later, when they are not working and it is their free time. Maybe that's not been your experience. Also I don't see where she said she was going to do any of those things.

Franjipanl8r · 30/03/2025 00:34

Aren’t there taxis? I couldn’t take time out of work to do favours for others.

TwistedWonder · 30/03/2025 00:36

I wouldn’t expect someone who is busy working to stop what they’re doing at work to pick me up from the station when as a grown adult Im capable of getting a taxi.

WTF99 · 30/03/2025 00:39

Fair enough.
I walked it Am used to walking so not a big deal.
Needed to get back to his as that's where I'd left my car. It's a later life relationship. I had a few days away with my adult daughter., which was lovely
I just thought he'd be pleased to see me and might make the effort to pick me up. I'd travelled from Spain....plane, tube, train and another train. He had no meetings and works extra hours so boss would've been ok for 15 mins.
I just felt unimportant I guess

He was WORKING. Working from home is still working.

A mile is a short walk. No, I would not expect someone to pick me up when they were working. Sheesh.

I agree. I hate the assumption that WFH means you can swan in and out the house at whim. It’s still working regardless of location
