M&S customers are a nuisance

I went into M&S Food today and every customer I came across was absolutely oblivious to anyone else in that store. It's like Percy Pigs over morals.

OP posts:

I would question whether the OP was a true M&S customer, or just a pretend one that goes on pay day and only buys the £1.50 chicken portions and £2 fake Weetabix before before posting on Instagram.

I go there at least twice a week. I collect my online orders, zip through the women’s section scanning for new arrivals whilst updating my Sparks for new offers. Saunter around the food hall throwing in yellow stickers for the chest freezer and Reblechon for a tartiflette later in the week.

All very stress free, nice people, no elbows, no sign of Percy Pigs anywhere.

Well then you're clearly doing it wrong 😱

The staff are great but the queues are always massive because the customers are SO SLOW. I don’t know what it is about that shop that makes people take twice as long to unload their stuff at the till and pay

That’s because it’s full of us decrepit old boomers spending our gold plated pensions 😁.
Perhaps someone could arrange for a touch of food poisoning in the cakes to bump a few of us off.

TheKeatingFive · 28/03/2025 19:20

Markies is a Scottish thing I think

It is👍

Cathandkin · 28/03/2025 19:22

I love Marksies. The Food Hall is excellent and there are no queues at the self-service. I have recently discovered their Swiss Style chocolate, which is food of the gods.
I also buy most of my clothes there too which probably makes me an unacceptable poster on Style and Beauty.
Everyone lovely though. Friendly staff and polite customers.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 28/03/2025 19:23

@DamnAlabama if you dont like M&S then why go if you are just going to complain about all the customers including yourself?????? shop on lidl if you are that bothered! the other customers most likely thought the same of you!! eh Percy Pig!!

😂😂
We're all just working out ways to take our wealth with us when we expire, just to show them.

The problem is if the customers weren't there then they wouldn't make any money and they would close down.
This happened in my mother in laws town.
According to the locals the M+S closing was like the apocalypse happening and the town will NEVER recover and only zombies venture into town now where there's nothing but pigeons, tumbleweed and the smell of hopelessness.
Apparently.

Edited

same in my dad's town, Andover, perhaps it's the same one.

Never a truer word spoken though. Our town lost it's M&S years ago, and it really is now just tumbleweed, pigeons, money laundering & charity shops.

Agreed although I did see the lady from Glee/Only Murders in the Building in there recently so that was nice.

Which one? I used to love Glee back in the day.

Yup I agree. Our favourites are the two in York. Staff and customers unbelievably respectful, friendly and helpful. Never too busy and yes, the self service checkouts always empty.

You forgot the vape shops. At least in Causton...

Needmorelego · 28/03/2025 19:32

@PersephoneSmith @Badbadbunny so many towns destroyed by M+S closing down 😂
In centuries to come history books will talk about what caused the Great Downfall of UK Towns and the Mythical Legend of M+S.

MrsBuntyS · 28/03/2025 19:33

Mine is feral, it’s just a foodhall on a retail park but the customers are vile. There’s a lady who works in there who I get on with, cos I’m a regular customer. I have beef with Ocado (sue me) anyway, she always opens a till for me etc. Some of the people are SUPER rude and at Christmas it ramps up x 1,000. Not even the 20% discount is enough to compensate those stuck in the M & S labour jail. Love you guys. Stay strong out there.

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/03/2025 19:34

It's pronounced Em-Un-Es. DH is an employee.

It's 'Marksies' where I am! I have never, ever heard it called 'Markies'!!

Well now you have 😝

I was only thinking the other day that the M&S poster hadn't been on here lately and lo and behold you're here. Hope you're well and that you'll be getting something nice for Easter with your Sparks points.

Hahaha this comment has made my night

Here too. Add in people off their heads on drug of choice and you've got my home town. I won't name it as it might stop holidaymakers coming and that would never do!

TroysMammy · 28/03/2025 19:37

Was it in a suburb starting with the letter M in a Welsh city?

Foostit · 28/03/2025 19:38

thepariscrimefiles · 28/03/2025 18:06

They used to call it Marksies on the Royle Family.

Marksies or M&S here. Never Markies!

MiddlingMarch · 28/03/2025 19:41

They changed the run of the aisles in my local one. I fear the town may never recover.

MyIvyGrows · 28/03/2025 19:41

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 28/03/2025 17:55

They also stopped a rather spectacular raspberry mousse decades ago. It was my daily treat.
Bastards!

The gastropub range used to do an incredible lamb massaman curry but it stopped around 5 years ago. I miss it badly.

TheWombatleague · 28/03/2025 19:41

Ours is full of people in leather fetishwear and gimp masks looking disappointed. I think they're all dyslexic, apart from Glenda, she always dresses like that on a Friday.

Carinattheliqorstore1 · 28/03/2025 19:42

Come
back op.
I’ve missed you

Alas and alack.
I miss Debenhams, I used to love going there. Now it's just an empty 60s monstrosity. TKMaxx is quite good for random bargains and weird foodstuffs.
