M&S customers are a nuisance

I went into M&S Food today and every customer I came across was absolutely oblivious to anyone else in that store. It's like Percy Pigs over morals.

Down South?

Ours is like this. You are beneath them so they don’t need to acknowledge anyone else’s presence.

Crunchymum · 28/03/2025 17:58

Please don't call it Markies.

It's Marksies (pronounced Mark-zies)

Or as my DC when he was little said "Marks and Spensive" 😂

My son always called it Marks and Spensives 😁.

Namechangean · 28/03/2025 18:22

That’s so funny had exactly the same experience today. Was overwhelming

ChristmaslightsuptilJanuary · 28/03/2025 18:23

Maybe they'd found out about the Fully Loaded Mexican Style Dip. It's like crack.

fourquenelles · 28/03/2025 18:28

I made the grave error of going into Marks on the first day of the post Christmas sale. I have never seen so many full to the brim trolleys and the queues stretched around the sales floors. People seemed determined and focused though.

Oh here we go. Didn’t think it would take long. All the boomers fault no doubt!
Our M and S is rammed with young professionals at lunchtime. What a nuisance they are, clogging up the tills and being so slow 🙄🙄

With those bloody phone payment thingies. Cocky sods.
😀

M & Who?

They are dead to me since they discontinued the syrup sponge pudding last year, the one I that I had been buying since the 1990's. DEAD.

Many years ago, more years than I care to remember they used to do a flan/quiche type thing that I still pine for today. It consisted of a pastry base which was filled with bolognaise sauce and topped with cheese sauce. Obviously very unhealthy but it was divine. It was only around for a short while . Maybe I should try to recreate it!

Good luck!
Post a picture when it's out the oven!

I went to Aldi today, it was interesting, ours has loads of students shopping there who were mainly focussed on alcohol and snacks given that it is Friday

uncomfortablydumb60 · 28/03/2025 18:35

Exactly the same in Sainsbury’s today.
so many faffers surprised by self scan asking for payment!
you can’t get out without scanning your receipt!

The problem is if the customers weren't there then they wouldn't make any money and they would close down.
This happened in my mother in laws town.
According to the locals the M+S closing was like the apocalypse happening and the town will NEVER recover and only zombies venture into town now where there's nothing but pigeons, tumbleweed and the smell of hopelessness.
Apparently.

Colchester?

Famousinlove · 28/03/2025 18:37

I said this to my DH a couple of weeks ago when we were in M&S, it was such a weird experience, everyone seemed miserable and rude. The store is too small which didn't help.

Sounds like a certain city of culture?

PrettayGood · 28/03/2025 18:38

We shop almost exclusively in M&S and all of the customers are lovely and civilised.

Sidebeforeself · 28/03/2025 18:40

I am so glad you pointed this out OP. I was wondering what to worry about given the lack of earthquakes, wars and economic doom.

YourIcyReader · 28/03/2025 18:40

The M&S here is rammed more often than not and everyone goes at a snails pace so it is very frustrating. I wouldn’t say anyone is particularly grumpy though.

MumWifeOther · 28/03/2025 18:41

I love shopping in M&S. I have to mentally psych myself up to go to Tesco’s as I find it so stressful. M&S is so easy to pop in and out off, so much less stressful!

socialdilemmawhattodo · 28/03/2025 18:41

Thedogscollar · 28/03/2025 17:33

You need to shop in Aldi, all very polite in there😊

Not near me, and my town is super posh!! I love Aldi, much prefer it to LIDL, but am rather tired of being literally elbowed out of the way to get a pack of something when there are dozens more on the shelves.

DGPP · 28/03/2025 18:41

But the food is amazing, who cares what the customers are doing?

TimeForATerf · 28/03/2025 18:42

I would question whether the OP was a true M&S customer, or just a pretend one that goes on pay day and only buys the £1.50 chicken portions and £2 fake Weetabix before before posting on Instagram.

I go there at least twice a week. I collect my online orders, zip through the women’s section scanning for new arrivals whilst updating my Sparks for new offers. Saunter around the food hall throwing in yellow stickers for the chest freezer and Reblechon for a tartiflette later in the week.

All very stress free, nice people, no elbows, no sign of Percy Pigs anywhere.

godmum56 · 28/03/2025 18:42

best ever checkout conversation was in Lidl.
I had bought a cordless circular saw.
Cashier "busy weekend?"
Me "yes got a couple of bodies to cut up"
Cashier "you will need rubber gloves. Aisle 3"

Age and the fact they’re paying with cash usually.

Why don’t you have any?

Cash? No, not for about 10 years.

Agree, I do too, a far more pleasant experience.
