To worry about America?

BelloItalia · 27/03/2025 08:37

I used to love America and would holiday there every year. We have had some amazing road trips there over the years. We were due to go to New Orleans this year but I’ve cancelled, I no longer want to go.

They are completely alienating themselves from the rest of the world, talking about taking over other countries, turning on allies, suddenly best mates with Russia ….

I watched that awful woman speaking to the UK journalist this morning “we don’t give a crap about your opinion” - how rude and obnoxious. Don’t even get me started on trump - greeting Zelenskyy with “I see you’ve dressed up for the occasion” !!! I’m no fan of Starmer but could you imagine him greeting a foreign leader like that?

Imagine Rachel Reeves screaming at a journalist that we don’t give a crap about their opinion?

What is wrong with America right now and will they ever recover from this administration?

This is an interesting read.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/how-journalists-covered-rise-mussolini-hitler-180961407/

It probably won’t be online for that much longer given the executive order this morning putting Vance in charge of purging the Smithsonian of “improper ideology”.

“Improper ideology” has shades of 1984.

I think we should worry about the state of the UK first. A lot of people around the world think we've lost our minds.

Who “around the world” thinks we have “lost our minds”?

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/03/2025 11:00

I am also worried about the impact on the UK. Trump's economic instability and lack of regard for security is bad news for the UK. But at least I don't live there. My family do.

I agree with you OP. I can't abide Marjorie Taylor Greene. She's a white nationalist and is known for her hate speech and antisemitism.

The problem is , these are the people who are leading the Free World now. Pete Hegseth has Nationalist tattoos, is an alcoholic and has "financial irregularities " . This man is the US defence secretary. I just find it terrifying. Especially after the Signal debacle. Which other country would share any sensitive information with these jokers.

All we can hope is this transformative period for the US leads to a more united Europe. Now that we can see what happens when we rely on the US. I was a complete pacifist before the Trump administration and now I really understand the reason behind your own strong military.

I'm hoping people understand that this is what happens when you let the crazies run the country. So, maybe we won't have Farage at the helm in 4 years....I really think he might be our PM one day soon ......

Can we talk about this administrations obsession with labelling every qualified woman and / or black person a “DEI hire” while thinking woefully mediocre people like Hegseth are competent.

Emily Maitlis!😱What a lovely couple!

Yes, Marjorie and Brian are a peach of a couple, aren't they? 😂 And Marjorie has always had form for this type of behaviour. An absolute nutter.

TBF, they've thought that since Brexit, Boris and Truss.

If you look at the Doublethink and Doublespeak coming out of the US right now, you'd be forgiven for thinking they're using 1984 as an instruction manual.

You worry about America?

I think people in this country should worry about the tanking economy, the sky high energy bills and no domestic production of energy, the flight of capital and rich people leaving with their money in droves, and the fast descent into becoming a 3rd world hellhole.

America, on the other hand, is doing quite well.

The sanctimony, laughably inflated sense of superiority and delusional belief that this increasingly irrelevant country is somehow better than America is palpably noticeable on here. Wonder what bubble these people live in.

America isn’t doing well - unemployment up, economy heading to a recession, stock market crashing and huge concerns over the falling values of 401k’s.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/03/2025 10:21

YANBU @BelloItalia. My family in America are increasingly worried about their sectors, education, women's reproductive health, hospitality, and what they've posted online.

The Trump administration is quelling free speech and the right to protest. He is dismantling their democracy before their eyes. On top of that, his chaos is costing them financially.

The Smithsonian move is symbolic of the destruction of everything the USA stood for.Sad

Indeed. I heard from a good friend recently, who is planning to visit the UK in August. She had to relinquish her British passport when she joined the US navy. She's currently in the process of applying to have it back, together with her children (US born). She views it as a sensible back up plan. I wholeheartedly agree.

They’ll be ok. They always are. They produce much of their own energy and food.

And they are 1/4 of the global economy. It’s likes of this irrelevant little island with people that have delusions of grandeur that needs to worry about how to pay its bills.

They will be in serious trouble if we here in Canada add tariffs to potash and restrict oil and electricity. The US isn’t as self sufficient as they think. Doesn’t help that neither Trump or his Press Secretary understand the basic principles of a tariff.

The sad part is they didn't really vote for this. Almost half of them stayed home (my adult children who live there) and he won by the tiniest of margins.

They thought it wouldn't matter if they voted or not. All politicians are the same they said. They clearly aren't.

As a dual citizen, I'm very glad I'm not living there now. But I'm very sad for the country. I'm.terrified for my children.

America DID vote for it however it was that individual Americans allowed Trump to win the election. Abstention, disinterest, allowing Biden to be re-nominated, then dumping him and allowing Harris on the ticket.
They ALL did this, not just those that put a cross beside Trump’s name.

That's a wise move. She's not the only one, many Americans are doing the same.

Americans show increased interest in dual citizenship post-Trump win, data shows

A record number of Americans are seeking alternative residences outside of the U.S. with voters feeling a mix of emotions as President-elect Donald Trump soon takes office, according to a global investment firm. Election week, from Nov. 4 through Nov....

But to some people he doesn’t look silly and this is a big problem for our country.

In any other normal time, the man who gave us Brexit which has cost us billions, destroyed businesses and led to the current cuts, created the ‘small boats’ issue, admires Andrew Tate and sucks up to Trump who’s administration wishes our country harm, would have kept his head down or fled the country in shame.

Yet there are people who see him as the solution to the problems he caused. Its amazing as it is scary.

The nationalists of the MAGA ilk are literally just franchising their formula - it's like a reality TV show but in politics. They're trying to sell their format to the UK and France now and are probably frustrated it hasn't happened yet. We the voters should tell 'em to fuck off.

BagelandEggs · 27/03/2025 17:33

Also if you tried to go there they may not let you in if you have criticised the Trump administration on social media (not sure how they'd know!) ! I have heard of American citizens even being detained when they tried to enter the US after being away if they have taken issue with Trump publically. That is very scary.

it would be if it was true, yes

And by the way, I am using TV language on purpose because if you look closely you see an awful lot of TV clowns people there (Trump, Hegseth etc.)

If the Democrats weren't such a useless bunch of charlatans Trump wouldn't have been democratically voted in (TWICE).

Their whole system is screwed. And we're no better off either, so that woman refusing to take lectures from the UK isn't entirely without merit.

StandFirm · 28/03/2025 11:45

One of the key issues there and here is the donation system. The fact that wealthy donors can essentially 'own' a party's agenda is corrupt in and of itself.

It's very difficult when you're up against someone who tells lies to get votes. Should the Democrats have done the same? They'd just be competing against each other in a spiral of lies.

Not putting up a man in his 80s in serious cognitive decline would have been a start.

And then forced into making a late change with Harris an extraordinarily weak presidential candidate. Is that really the best they can do?

And so much of the woke/trans madness (which went insane last few years) comes from the Democrats and is just buying votes for the right.

If the Republicans hadn't chosen him, this wouldn't be happening. Plenty of other Republicans to choose from but they went with a serial sex offending, megalomaniac felon famous for his lies.

Ah well, he'll destroy the GOP too.

Once. He only secured a majority once.
But stop blaming the Democrats for MAGA.

Trump is a couple of years younger than Biden and also clearly not all there cognitively.
