Sell the story, if so to who?

I'm unsure about this but I'm on dating sites and as we all know it's full of parasites.

I was speaking to an elected councillor who I thought was decent, he sent me nudes, vulgar text etc. He swiftly deleted it but it's really wrong, I have screenshot etc. He was disgusting.

I'm not on about selling per se for money but we shouldn't have creeps like this representing us.

OP posts:
scoopoftheday · 18/03/2025 22:10

Was he there under his councillor title?

Or was he just "J"

Either way, take it from me, no local reporter will touch it without it having been a court case or having been taken further/formal complaint within councillor. (And I do mean a local, small community, privately owned paper, not the red tops where they've lawyers at hand constantly)

A cllr in my area had been in the local pub one weekend and slapped a barmaid on the backside.

The barmaid rang the paper to complain - OK, do you have CCTV? Yes? Great... report it to the cops and we'll pick it up when he goes to court.

She did and we did.

He isn't a cllr anymore but we wouldn't have ran the story without something concrete like a court case.

Any woman, any day, could contact a paper saying Joe Bloggs sent me a dick pic. (Yes they shouldn't be sent, they're disgusting, but do you see where I'm coming from?)

It's telling that your first thought wasn't, "I need to report him so it doesn't happen to anyone else" it was "will I sell the story?" (which also made me LOL.. it's hard enough for employed journos to get paid in this day and age 🤣🤣)

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 18/03/2025 22:10

I get why you'd want to OP, but as others have said, best to report through the right channels, not a tabloid.

Tabloids will drag you through it too and dig on your life.
And if he sues, it could drag on for years.

Localres · 18/03/2025 22:11

you said you won’t forward them, but you also said he deleted them, which is it? I think you should absolutely report him but you surely need some kind of proof.

JanglingJack · 18/03/2025 22:12

I was sent an unsolicited nude hard on pic once.

13 years ago, my daughter was 3. I decided to do one of these back to work job centre confidence building courses overcoming barriers to work as a single parent.

2 week course, then 1 week employed before Christmas... Offered a job, see you in New Year.

Nope, the bloke who ran the course decided to keep on touch over Christmas and send me a picture of his little erect cock.

Well I forwarded to all his management to let them know this is how he treats the 'vulnerable' single women he works with.

He got sacked, I didn't get the job after Christmas.

She also said she screenshoted the messages before he deleted them so I’m not sure why that’s confused you.

Pensionableperil · 18/03/2025 22:14

What sort of councillor? I’m trying VERY hard not to think of Jimmy Harding octogenarian on our Parish council who is a stalwart and cares very much about the state of the park, the war memorial, and whether we can have a speed camera. I don’t think he’s ever nude, even under his clothes.

sharkysharks · 18/03/2025 22:14

A grown man sends nudes to a grown woman and consequently you want to publicly shame him and for him to loose his career?

Grown men shouldn't be sending unsolicited pics

JanglingJack · 18/03/2025 22:17

AyeDeadOn · 18/03/2025 22:07

I am fucking horrified that there are grown women who think it's absolutely fine for a man to send them unsolicited dick pics. What the hell kind of world are my daughters growing up in?

Nobody thinks it's okay, but the whole premise of the post is who to sell the story to after googling him.

(I still don't get the Councillor thing).

I'd hate to think that my son might be coerced in to something...

Nobody is saying that anyone is in the r right here. People do see that OPs initial motives were selling the story for money.

wordler · 18/03/2025 22:17

DressOrSkirt · 18/03/2025 22:09

Why is that bit contestable and the rest of the post not? We can only advise based on the assumption OP is telling the truth. I don't see any reason for her to lie, but if she has then so what, the post is about what to do when someone sends unsolicited nudes.

Fair enough - I agree with that point.

It’s just the OP was being very vague about what ‘type’ of dating site, what was the ‘disgusting’ talk and how she responded. There are sites where it’s very clear that you are there for a consensual sex hook up so things move fairly fast.

Bumdrops · 18/03/2025 22:19

Hi op - I don’t get why you getting a hard time here - I agree with you, contact police - 101 report being sent unsolicited offensive pics - 👍

sharkysharks · 18/03/2025 22:20

Hi op - I don’t get why you getting a hard time here -

Clearly she riled up those that like to send nude snaps of themselves to random strangers!

OP didn't want to contact the police 😂

Sell to the highest bidder more like.

PerkingFaintly · 18/03/2025 22:21

cupsandcupsoftea · 18/03/2025 20:16

If so, how? I'm not wanting money just to expose.

This is the OP's second post, following immediately on from her first.

Which was also very short.

More than one on this thread seem to think it's OK.

You don't agree with the op, she doesn't want to phone the police, she wants to sell her story... you agree with everyone that's giving her a reality check hard time.

PerkingFaintly · 18/03/2025 22:25

So in total the OP's real query seems to have been, "How do I share that this person behaves badly, because it's not OK for someone in this position of authority to do this?"

She elaborates again further down that getting money for herself isn't the objective.

PerkingFaintly · 18/03/2025 22:28

The OP hasn't said anything about not wanting to phone the police.

I'm also pretty Hmm at all these posters whose reaction to a woman being on the receiving end of cyberflashing is to mock her, minimise the offence, and make shit up about her.

Her thread title is "Sell this story, but to who?"

Sorry.. why do you want to do this exactly? A grown man sends nudes to a grown woman and consequently you want to publicly shame him and for him to loose his career? Under the guise that he ‘shouldn’t be representing us’. Think there’s more to this tale than meets the eye here. Careful you don’t get done for slander and libel.

And it’s illegal to send unsolicited nude images in the U.K.

PerkingFaintly · 18/03/2025 22:31

Thanks, @Wintersgirl , we can all read the title.

Some of us can read the rest of what the OP has written, too.

Lambington · 18/03/2025 22:33

Is he a Tory by any chance?

Lib Dem I believe

GarlicStyle · 18/03/2025 22:40

What the fuck is the matter with everyone? If you're considering dating someone, OF COURSE you independently verify their identity..

Council websites are gov.uk and yes, they are government.

Councillors' home addresses and business mobile numbers are listed.

He must have been using his business mobile to send explicit messages 😡

OP, I agree with contacting his local newspaper. Let them decide what to publish, not mumsnetters.

Alternatively, follow the procedures set out in the relevant council's "Arrangements for dealing with complaints about the code of conduct for members".

Whichever political party he represents at a local level.

He may be in breach of a code of conduct but you need to be sure before you start what you want to achieve.

You won't be paid.

You might get a tiny amount from the Mail for a tip-off as they call it but it's not really sensational stuff so I'd not be sure they'd be interested.

Porcelainpig · 18/03/2025 22:42

Are you just posting here hoping journo vultures offer you money? I wouldn't get into this shit if I were you.
